Itinerary

The below itinerary is for tours departing from 31st December 2016. If travelling before this date please contact us for a copy of your Trip Notes.

Day 1

Victoria Falls

Saturday. Welcome to Victoria Falls, one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world! Included transfer to our campsite in the centre of town. On day 1 there is a pre-departure meeting at 17:00hrs.
Overnight: Victoria Falls

Day 2

Victoria Falls

Today is spent relaxing or participating in a myriad of optional excursions. Named after the famous World Heritage site and Water Falls, the town of Victoria Falls is situated on the Zambezi River and surrounded by the Victoria Falls National Park. Our campsite is conveniently situated in the centre of town, and within walking distance of the adventure booking agents, restaurants and shops. A 20 minute walk down the main road takes you to the entry point to view the falls, which are situated between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Victoria Falls, or Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders), was named by David Livingstone on his explorations, and is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. At 1700 m wide and around 100 m high, this is the world's largest sheet of falling water and a memorable sight on any African Safari! Our exciting range of optional excursions include horseback safaris, a visit to the crocodile ranch, boat cruises and golf at The Elephant Hills Resort. Adrenalin junkies can bungee from the Victoria Falls Bridge connecting Zimbabwe and Zambia or abseil down the Batoka Gorge - neither activity is for the faint hearted! All year round, flights in fixed wing, micro light and ultra light aircraft or helicopters provide an aerial perspective over this magnificent World Heritage Site. White water rafting on the Zambezi is also world class.
Overnight: Victoria Falls

Day 3

Chobe River

Victoria Falls - Chobe (Botswana). This morning we leave Victoria Falls and cross the border into Botswana, and head to Kasane on the banks of the Chobe River. Chobe is one of Botswana’s premier game parks, renowned for the large herds of elephant around the river. This afternoon enjoy an included boat cruise along the river spotting the elephants and hippos.
Overnight: Kasane  |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 4

Nata Region

Kasane - Nata Region. We leave this beautiful part of Botswana behind us this morning as we depart to the lush campsite called Elephant Sands. The drive will take you through a very unpopulated landscape where the donkeys roam freely. Once we have arrived at our campsite you will have the option of partaking in a game drive or a bushwalk. Your crew will provide you with more information.
Overnight: Nata Region  |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Days 5-6

Optional Okavango Delta

Nata Region - Maun - Okavango Delta. Maun is the starting point for the optional trip into the Delta and it is from here that we can set off to explore the Okavango Delta. Tonight we prepare our provisions and packs for our overnight excursion. We suggest bringing along a smaller daypack on your trip which can be used to pack the supplies needed for this short excursion. Your trip leader will brief you fully on what is needed, and what to expect prior to your trip into the Delta.

If you choose not to take the Okavango Delta Excursion you can spend a relaxing two days in Maun, relax by the pool at the campsite, explore the town and its local markets.

On day 6 we have the opportunity to take the optional overnight excursion into the Delta. After an early rise, we pack our expedition vehicle and from Maun we drive north for a couple of hours to reach the mokoro poler’s station. The Delta region is studded with many local villages where many families live in a traditional way. Some of the villages are very remote and can only be reached by the traditional mode of transport – the Mokoro. Mokoros are dugout canoes manoeuvred through the waterways by local guides who “pole” them through the reeds. At the Mokoro station, we meet our ‘Polers’ and pack our supplies before heading out into the waterways. After a couple of hours along the waterways, we arrive at our mobile tented camp situated in the heart of the Okavango.

On arrival you will meet the local staff who will be your host during your stay. A brief introduction to the camp will show you your dome tent with twin beds and a bush en-suite bathroom – long drop toilet and a bucket shower. Relax in the tent with a cold drink or take a paddle in the Delta in a canoe. The activities at the camp include Mokoro trails and guided walking.
Overnight: Maun OR Okavango Delta (optional)  |  Breakfast x 2, Lunch x 2, Dinner x 2

Day 7

Maun

Okavango Delta - Maun. For those on the optional Okavango Delta excursion, this morning gives us a final opportunity for a game walk before packing up and setting off back to Maun. After our Mokoro ride and vehicle transfer, we arrive back in the afternoon and have the chance to complete our picture of the Okavango Delta by taking an optional scenic flight over the Delta (dependent on weather conditions & availability).
Overnight: Maun  |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Days 8-9

Blyde River Canyon

Maun - Palapye - Blydepoort (South Africa). Heading out early on day 8, we drive to the small town of Palapye, situated about halfway between Francistown and Gaborone (Botswana’s capital). This popular ‘stopover’ town for those en route to South Africa.

The following morning we cross into South Africa and continue across to our camp overlooking the impressive Blyde River Canyon. Named for the Blyde River that runs through it, the canyon is 26km long, and averages 800m deep and forms the northern edge of the impressive Drakensberg Mountain Range. The main viewpoints along the canyon are the 3 Rondavels, named for the shape of the traditional huts or houses the indigenous people of the area used to live in; and Gods Window that affords a breathtaking view across the canyon and surrounding area.
Overnight: Palapye (1) Blydepoort (1)  |  Breakfast x 2, Lunch x 2, Dinner x 2

Days 10-11

Kruger National Park

Blydepoort - Hazyview. Heading through the breathtaking Panorama Route, we stop off at various viewpoints today including scenic God’s Window. We pass through the small town of Graskop, and head toward the Kruger National Park and our campsite on the border of the park. Situated just 10km from Kruger’s Phabeni Gate, the camp is home to Giraffe, Zebra and Hippo to name but a few.

The following day we visit the amazing Kruger National Park in search of some of the 146 mammals, 500 bird, 114 reptile, 33 amphibian & 49 fish species that make this park their home. We travel in our truck along the main game viewing routes within the park and stop off at some of the camps along the way. We take a night game drive on day 10.
Overnight: Kruger National Park  |  Breakfast x 2, Lunch x 2, Dinner x 2

Day 12

Johannesburg

Wednesday. Hazyview - Johannesburg. After breakfast we drive to Johannesburg. Our late afternoon arrival marks the end of our adventure.

Will, Mumma Flo and Aaron were amazing hosts and guides. Their expertise in their work was so apparent and flawless that it made the experience overwhelmingly enjoyable. Never before have I enjoyed myself so much on a guided tour. Your crew are to be congratulated and I am looking forward to my next trip with On The Go Tours.

The only negative I have is the length of the driving days. It would make for a much better experience if those days were split up with extra stops.

Cheers,

Myk and Jase

Manda the tour guide was excellent. He was spot on with his organisation, local knowledge, both cultural and the flora and fauna.

His people skills were excellent and you couldn't wish for a better group leader.

This was our very first tour and we were not disappointed. We would heartily recommend this On the Go Tours to all our friends.

I had the best trip with On the Go. Our guide Thembe, our driver Johnny and our cook Freddie were amazing and helped make the trip that it was.

The tour was great and covered a good portion of the countries visited! The camps were great and exceeded my expectations.

Highly recommend On the Go!

The tour was amazing, the updated accommodation just past the South African border was incredible, however the late arrival made it rushed. I would highly recommend the tour was extended by a night to give travelers a full night to enjoy the local festivities, hiking availability and to even perhaps volunteer at a local school.

Our tour guide was lovely. Our chef and driver were both lovely (Monga and Johannas) and happy to share stories/help with tents (we had a single traveler on the trip and they always made sure she was getting help when she needed it). Definitely the highlight of the trip was the Delta Okavango.

Also, I believe the tour would have benefited from increasing the community insight provided, even if we shopped at more street-stalls for snacks or had the chance to go to a church over easter... we saw so many animals and were so spoiled for natural experiences, I came home feeling a little guilty for not being more culturally aware after my trip.

The tour was great and the tour guide was excellent, so was the cook and driver, very friendly and helpful guides. The only thing that needs to be said is that when you go to zimbabwe you must have us dollars no one we came across would accept south african rand as was stated in tour notes, also for the ockavanga delta it needs to said that you need camoflague clothing and be able to walk for at least 6 hours straight at a time.
