We cycle on to Avanos known for its terracotta pottery, where we will visit one of the potteries situated in a cave. Derinkuyu Underground City

Sognali - Guzelyurt. After breakfast we return back to Soganli where we commence a short, but tough climb out of the gorge. We then have a long but level ride before we come into the village of Orhanli which gives us an insight into the harsh life of the people who live on the high Anatolian Plateau. We head west to the reach Derinkuyu in the early afternoon where we will stop for lunch. We will then visit the famous underground city before we ride to the base of Gollu Dag, a 2143 metre high volcano. Free day in Guzelyurt

After breakfast we have the day free to relax and explore the lively streets of Guzelyurt where homes are built into man-made caves. Day 7

The Ihlara Canyon

Guzelyurt - Urgup. After breakfast we ride out to Selime, where we begin our descent to the Ihlara Canyon. Known as the " Valley of the Sky" it is home to several beautifully decorated rock-cut churches. This section is also the most technical mountain biking of the trip and while there is some great riding there is also plenty of carrying bikes up and down narrow paths. Our lunch stop today is at Belisirma before we reach Ihlara Village and we leave the canyon. We'll then make the crossing of the Kucuk Hasan Mountain, passing through Kitreli and then a downhill ride takes us to Ulukisla on the other side of the mountain. From here we have a transfer back to Urgup for our overnight stay, and if time allows we can go to the Turkish Baths or Hammam, before we meet up for dinner.

Day 8

Goreme & the Red Valley

Our final full day of riding involves a circuit through some of the most important sights in Cappadocia, around Goreme. Goreme is a large natural amphitheatre surrounded by steep cliffs. There is an excellent descent into the valley, on steep trails between the rock pillars. Here, amongst the cliff walls are numerous caves, which were some of the most important early Christian monastic settlements. The Goreme open-air museum is worth a visit.

We continue our ride on tarmac and dirt roads, through spectacular natural and man-made rock architecture, to Zelve and enjoy a 4-kilometre ride through the Red Valley, which is one of the highlights of the trip. We end with a visit to the market in Urgup, which is one of the best you will ever see, with fantastically colourful produce stalls.
Overnight: Urgup  |  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 9

Bidding farewell

After breakfast today our tour ends. A complimentary transfer to either Kayseri or Nevsehir Airport is available.

Is This Holiday For You?

ADVENTURE CYCLING. Cappadocia provides a unique and exhilarating bike experience, as we visit different parts of the region each day, staying in comfortable family run hotels. The majority of the biking is on rough cart tracks and paths, punctuated with short sections of quiet country roads. Good quality, semi-slick tyres will handle these conditions well. Thanks to our vehicle support, this route will suit the occasional biker with a reasonable level of fitness. For more experienced riders there are options to extend each day and to include single track sections, such as the traverse of the Ihlara Canyon, and some challenging climbs. The support vehicle is almost always available on this relaxed mountain bike holiday. The average daily ride is a little under 40 kilometres. BIKE HIRE AVAILABLE LOCALLY. Please read the Trip Notes for further information about this trip including the distance and duration that you'll be cycling each day, bike requirements and bike hire.
