Visit: The Edinburgh Dungeon, 31 Market Street by Waverley Bridge, Edinburgh EH1 1DF Scotland

Make your way to the Edinburgh Dungeon and allow yourself to feel immersed in Edinburgh’s narrow cobbled closes and wynds (small side streets). You are about to come face to face with the city’s most notorious rogues and villains and discover the dark side of Scotland’s long history.
Your underground journey takes through different periods of Scottish and Edinburgh history, with live actors recreating some of the more dark and tragic episodes of the past – all with the unique Dungeon blend of tongue-in-cheek humour, scary fun entertainment and audience participation.
Come face-to-face with Sawney Bean and his cannibal family – he’d love to have you for dinner! Will you escape the plague in Mary King’s Close, or end up with boils on your sweaty bits? Be found VERY guilty by Judge Mental and accused of witchcraft by Edinburgh’s baddest witch Agnes Finnie! You’ll meet Burke & Hare, the city’s most notorious serial killers and encounter ghosts from the past… Experience the sights, sounds and even smells of Edinburgh, culminating in the thrilling Drop Dead Ride to Doom at the Grassmarket gallows!

This is awesome 90 mins of tour which will make you laugh and also scare you at times. Absolute must do if you visit Edinburgh. Most of the characters are interesting and does a great job of storytelling. As you move on to different chambers, the anxiety keeps building. What an interesting way to make people scare. Always better to book online tickets

Crowds were everywhere, glad to have the priority entrance. Dungeon was scary, not for children or adults who don't like to be frightened. You ride, walk, hear stories throughout and it ends with a surprise ride. Recommend it!

This is a fun and a little bit thrilling way to learn about some of the Dark things in history. Highly recommend.

My friend and I went to the dungeons in the morning when it opened at 10 am, Although there wasn't much of a line, we definitely weren't priority, as we still had to wait in line to give the admission person our ticket. I'm not sure how the priority line would work on a busy day, because you still need to line up for the initial admissions window. I'm a chicken, so this was an enjoyable experience for me as it got me quite scared and I was the one who kept jumping and screaming in the group. I also loved all the rides during the tour. I won't spoil it, but the actors, costumes and themes of the experience was well done. Definitely a different perspective with regards to Edinburgh's history. This is definitely a good way to spend a couple of hours and to learn a little bit about the city. Oh, I forgot to mention, on the Viator ticket, it said the dungeon opened at 11 am. However, on the Dungeon's website it opened at 10 am. The admission times are different throughout the season, so I would recommend checking the Dungeon's website for current opening and closing times.

Our family enjoyed the experience. The cast did a great job. They really mixed it up between boat rides, drop rides, walks, and interactive shows. Involving the people on the tour makes it much more fun as long as you are aware beforehand that you may be picked to participate.
