An early morning departure takes you to the bustling river market of Cai Be on the Tien River. This floating market dates back hundreds of years and remains an incredibly important part of life on the Mekong Delta. Several hundred rafts and boats specialising in fruit and vegetable can be seen moored by these riverbanks, displaying their wares on long poles to attract customers who float by in smaller boats. Here you can also spot floating restaurants, bars and even gas stations!
After stocking up on your fruit and veg there is an optional stop at a local workshop where you can see the production process of some local specialities, such as rice paste, coconut candy, and popcorn, before continuing your journey down the Mekong. Leaving behind the hustle and bustle of the floating market, you will navigate by row-boat down smaller canals where you can enjoy the serene surroundings of the countryside, passing traditional houses and farmland along the way.
Disembarking the boat in the afternoon there will be the chance to eat lunch in a local village, taste some seasonal fruits, and enjoy the tunes of traditional Vietnamese music. Following this is a cycle ride through village paths and farmland where you can gain deeper insight into the way of life here. Your tour of the Mekong Delta will end in Vinh Long where you will then be transferred back to Saigon.
