The Smoke that Thunders

Known locally as Mosi-oa-Tunya, translated as The Smoke That Thunders, mighty Victoria Falls has been named one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and is claimed to be the largest single sheet of failing water in the world. Located between Zambia and Zimbabwe, the Zambezi River widens to 1.7 kilometres and then the full width of the river plunges 108 metres down into the Zambezi Gorge, sending clouds of spray up to 500 metres in the air, helping to sustain the surrounding lush rainforest.

Had an amazing time travelling from Johannesburg, South Africa to the awesome Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. I preferred the Zimbabwe part of this tour as it was more "African" than S.Africa and the scenery was outstanding. Vic Falls cannot fail to blow your mind, laying in your tent at night listening to the thunder of the falls is a sound that will remain with me for years to come. Kruger National Park does not fail to deliver the Big 5 - in fact we saw ours within the first couple of hours - amazing. Of course this tour may not suit those adverse to camping, but I loved it, especially when camping in the unfenced sites, sat waiting under an African sky for the elephants to make their way down to the water hole. Plus during the South Africa section it felt like we spent more time shopping in Malls than on Safari, but this was to enable the guides to purchase supplies for the next few days. Our guide was young but nevertheless armed with information on the area and the wildlife. This is not my first tour with On The Go Tours, and it will not be my last. Thank You guys x”

Kapillar, Joseph and Steven did an amazing job.

The meals were delicious, there was lots of food and a great variety, Joseph and Kapillar worked hard to accommodate all the different diets.

The group brought a variety of personalities, with many different travel styles and expectations. Kapillar did an amazing job of balancing the needs of everyone. He was very patient when some guests were challenging, and he always had a smile on his face.

Our tour was enhanced 100% because of the guides we had. They were approachable and smart, and brought a great dynamic to the group. If we come to Africa again, we will be asking for this team! ”

I fell in love with Africa the minute I arrived. I thought the tour was fantastic but the reason I rate it 4/5 is because it is too fast paced. Some days I felt like all I experienced was the truck. If the long drives were broken up with a few extra nights here and there so we arrive at our camp in the day light and can go for a walk or relax it'd be 5/5.

Chris my guide was exceptional. He gave us so much information about Africa and its culure. And he answered all our questions even though he must get asked them all the time. He was also a friend to us by playing uno on the truck or just chatting with us.”

A sunset cruise on the Zambezi

Any number of activities can be found in and around Victoria Falls and there are endless ways to experience the mighty Zambezi River too. Whatever your interest, be it white water rafting, jet boating, canoeing or a sunset cruise, the Zambezi has it all. For a spectacular bird’s eye view opt to take a microlight flight over the falls, or if you are feeling brave there are five different high wire activities, from gorge wings to the famous bungee jump from Victoria Falls Bridge.
