Stop At: Estancia Santa Susana, Ruta Provincial 6 188, Los Cardales B2814HIE Argentina

Around 9.30 am, depart Buenos Aires in a comfortable bus for the scenic ride of 2 hours through the Argentine pampas (plains) to Estancia Santa Susana, located in Los Cardales.

When you arrive at this traditional estancia (ranch), your day of gaucho fun begins with a friendly welcome reception at the ranch pub with empanadas and wine.

Take a tour to some of Santa Susana’s attractions, including its museum and church, before enjoying a horse-drawn carriage ride or going horseback riding to explore the grounds of the ranch.

Around 1 pm, tuck into a delicious parrillada (Argentina BBQ), lunch of grilled specialties such as sausages and chicken, accompanied by salad and beverages (red and white wine, soda, water and coffee). Then sip on a glass of mate (an Argentine drink of yerba mate leaves steeped in hot water) and finish with a pastelito (pastry)!

During lunch, be entertained by a tango and folk show of classical music and dance, and watch an exciting boleadoras show, with throwing weapons used by gauchos.

When you’re done eating, the real entertainment begins as you watch the gauchos show off their incredible ranch skills. Be impressed by a ring race (known as la sortija), animal herding and the cuadreras race, a typical gaucho game.

When your day of fun on the ranch is over, you’ll be driven back to Buenos Aires and dropped-off at a central location around 18pm.

Was a great day start to finish. Our guide, Eileen, and our driver were excellent. Very enjoyable. They accommodated a vegetarian on the trip - even in the meat loving experience of the gauchos.

Pick up and drop off - they were on time picking us up from the hotel and brought us back promptly when they promised. Food - as soon as you arrive you are fed endless empenanadas which are to die for. Eat as many as you want while you tour the grounds and do the activites that you want. When the main meal is served, every delicious grilled meat that you could imagine, along with endless sides as well. Drinks - as soon as you stop onsite, you are offered wine, wine, and more wine. Malbec for life. Entertainment - the museum which includes some of the original houses on the grounds are full of antiques and family photos. You can then either take a horseback ride, or get in a carriage to go around the grounds in a really relaxing setting and environment. During lunch, they is a singer onstage along with performers giving you traditional tango and then cowboy dances as well. The price may seem high, but if you take advantage of everything that's offered, it's well worth the day trip.

We had a wonderful time at the ranch. highly recommend this tour! Lunch was spectacular, with steak, sausages, chicken, salad, bread and all you can drink beverages. The Gauchos were charming, and the dancers and singer at the lunch show were amazing. Wish we could go back again! Definitely a must-do.

I absolutely loved my trip out to Santa Susana Ranch! It is well worth the time and money. You are greeted with wine and an empanada and a beautiful view. You can tour the museum/original house with all the beautiful furnishings. A wonderful show with a sit-down lunch is phenomenal! I loved the fact that I had the opportunity to ride a horse for the first time ever in my life! The gauchos put on a great show of skill on their horses after the lunch. Everyone is very friendly. I truly had enjoyable time!

There were several Gaucho day trips listed on Viator to choose from, and based on the reviews, we choose this one. Good choice! We had a fantastic day. The experience begins with a bus-ride to the ranch -- it was about an hour from the last passenger pick-up. There were 19 passengers on a small bus that fit 19 people, so it was a tight-fit for all of us -- but the bus was air-conditioned, and the ride was a nice way to view more of the city and surrounding area. Our guide, Macarena, was delightful, and her English was terrific. She gave us a lot of background and information. Once at the ranch, we were met by a Gaucho, as well as plates of empanadas and glasses of wine red or white or juice. We got a tour of the grounds, and then we were set free to explore. We began by going to the two small museums -- one was a very small chapel and the other a small home. Both were simple and didn't take long to walk through, but gave a good indication of what life was life on the pampas back in the day. We also took a quick stroll through the small gift shop. Next, we decided to ride horses. The gauchos helped us all onto the horses, and we walked around the ranch. The ranch is located an hour out of BA, but still in a populated area, so part of the perimeter is bordered by roads and cars -- but it is far enough in the country that it is relaxing and beautiful. On the horse, you can see how well-groomed the ranch is, and we loved riding around. After the horses, we sat and enjoyed being in the country -- by then, the ranch was full of tourists, though it is large enough to accommodate many tourists at the same time. Lunch was next, and the food was served by the Gauchos, one meat at a time. We had two steaks, chicken, and two sausages -- all excellent. The food is cooked on an open grill see my photos, and it was some of the best meat we had in our visit to Argentina. Also included were salads, desert, and drinks each table had bottles of Malbec, and you could order beer, water, soft drinks, etc.. After dinner came the show. Great musicians, very good singing, and some tango dancing were all good -- and then an amazing male dancer finished the show with a high-energy performance. Next came a second show -- this time with the Gauchos and the horses. They did some horse maneuvers and tricks, and everyone in the crowd seemed to have a great time including us. Entertained, tired, and our bellies full, we went back on the bus for the relaxing ride back to the city. We originally booked this trip thinking it would be fun for our kid, and he did love it -- but I think we loved it almost as much as he did. They know what they are doing, and this is a great tour to experience.

Fantastic experience. The estate is pretty and the quick horse ride around it gives you a sense of the place. The lunch provided is fantastic. They don't go light on the meat so you leave full. The dance and music performance after lunch was entertaining and they did a good job getting the entire crowd involved.

A worthwhile day trip to one of the rancheros near Buenos Aires. Lots of good food almost all meat, a tango demonstration that was worth the trip all by itself, and a very interesting demonstration by modern-day gauchos of horse riding techniques. All in all, a day well spent. And the guide Antonella was not only fluent in English but beautiful as well!
