About Bako National Park
Sarawak's oldest national park is an easy excursion from the city of Kuching and is an excellent place to spot wildlife in gorgeous rainforest. Spread across a rugged peninsula facing the sea, the park protects an area of secluded beaches backed by wind-eroded rock formations and dense mangrove swamp. Sparkling waterfalls and peaceful streams punctuate the tropical interior forest with varied ecosystems that are home to the endemic proboscis monkey, long-tailed macaque, silvered langur, bearded pig and monitor lizards.Read More
The stunning beaches can be reached via the walking trails that wind through the forests and across the sandstone plateau with boat rides from the park headquarters also available for those who prefer to avoid steamy jungle treks. A day's excursion here will offer the chance to explore sections of the park on foot and spend a little time relaxing on the beaches and marveling at the steep coastal cliffs before taking a boat back to HQ, saving the return journey's hike.
