Populated by the native Dusun ethnic group, Kundasang is also known for its colourful vegetable market which is open everyday of the week. Behind the vegetable stalls on top of a hill stands the Kundasang War Memorial and Gardens, which commemorates the Australian and British prisoners who died on the infamous Sandakan Death Marches during World War II. The four smartly manicured gardens feature several marble pavilions and a full list of the dead. There's also an information centre where you can watch an informative documentary on the events that are commemorated here.
