Stop At: Angkor Wat, Sangkat Nokor Thum, Siem Reap Cambodia

Angkor Wat is a temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, built for the king Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious centre since its foundation – first Hindu, dedicated to the god Vishnu, then Buddhist. It is the world's largest religious building. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country's prime attraction for visitors.

Angkor Wat Temple combines two basic plans of Khmer temple architecture: the temple mountain and the later galleried temple, based on early Indian Hindu architecture, with key features such as the Jagati. It is designed to represent Mount Meru, home of the devas in Hindu mythology: within a moat and an outer wall 3.6 kilometres (2.2 mi) long are three rectangular galleries, each raised above the next. At the centre of the temple stands a quincunx of towers. Unlike most Angkorian temples, Angkor Wat is oriented to the west; scholars are divided as to the significance of this. The temple is admired for the grandeur and harmony of the architecture, its extensive bas-reliefs and for the numerous devatas (guardian spirits) adorning its walls. The modern name, Angkor Wat, means "City Temple"; Angkor is a vernacular form of the word nokor which comes from the Sanskrit word nagara meaning capital or city. Wat is the Khmer word for temple. Prior to this time the temple was known as Preah Pisnulok, after the posthumous title of its founder, Suryavarman II.

Angkor Thom
Capital city of the Khmer empire built at the end of the 12th century
NameAngkor Thom
Datelate 12th century
KingJayavarman VII

Location North of Angkor Wat, between West Baray and East Baray Near byAngkor Wat, Preah Khan, Phnom Bakheng
Angkor Thom is an almost square city surrounded by 8 meter high walls a little over 12 kilometers long with five impressive gopura gates providing access to the city. The city’s name translates to “large city” or “great city”.

King Jayavarman VII made Angkor Thom the new capital of the Khmer Kingdom after driving out the Chams , who destroyed the old capital Yasodharapura. He fortified the city by building a high wall around it, in turn enclosed by a 100 meter wide moat.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Bayon Temple, Angkor Thom, Siem Reap Cambodia

The Bayon is a richly decorated Khmer temple at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of the Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the centre of Jayavarman's capital, Angkor Thom.

A peculiarity of the Bayon is the absence of an enclosing wall. It is, though, protected by the wall surrounding the city of Angkor Thom. The basic plan of the Bayon is a simple one comprising three levels (1-3). The first and second levels are square galleries featuring bas-reliefs. A circular Central Sanctuary dominates the third level. Despite this seemingly simple plan, the arrangement of the Bayon is complex, with a maze of galleries, passages and steps connected in a way that make the levels practically indistinguishable and creates dim lighting, narrow walkways, and low ceilings.
The temples decorated with more than 200 smiling faces on its tower.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Ta Prohm, National Road #6 Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap 17252 Cambodia

Ta Prohm's state of ruin is a state of beauty, which is investigated with delight and left with regret.

Ta Prohm is locating southwest of the East Mebon and east of Angkor Thom. Its outer enclosure is near the corner of Banteay Kdei. It can be accessed by enter the monument from the west and leave from the east entrance.

Tip: Ta Prohm is especially serene and beautiful in the early morning. A torch and a compass are useful for visiting this temple at all times. It was built about mid-12th century to early 13th century (1186) by the King Jayavarman VII, dedicated to the mother of the king (Buddhist) replica to Bayon style of art.

Ta Prohm is among the largest of the monuments in the Angkor complex, the in scrimption gives an idea of the size of the temple. The complex included 260 statues of gods, 39 towers with pinnacles and 566 groups of residences. Ta Prohm comprises a series of long low buildings standing on one level, which are enclosed by rectangular laterite wall (600 by 1,000 meters, 1,959 by 3,281 feet). Only traces of the wall are still visible. The center of the monument is reached by a series of towers connected with passages. This arrangement forms a ' sort of sacred way into the heart of the monument’; three-square galleries enclose the area.

Our guide, San, was very knowledgeable.. could communicate with the group in English, though sometimes we had to request him to repeat..still it was not very common occurrence. He tried to take us to places for better photography,as it was an weekend and in midst of TET Holiday. We got cold water bottles, whenever we came back you vehicle and being a small group, we could gel with others. Moreover, he didn't show his annoyance, whenever one fell behind. Like to visit again.

Best tour guide ever! He was very informative and helpful throughout the day. Pace yourself for a lot of walking and the heat. The sites are all equally amazing so you won't regret taking this tour.

We thoroughly enjoyed this tour and would highly recommend! Our guide San was very knowledgeable, set a comfortable pace to accommodate all within the group and was very detail oriented when explaining notable things at each site. The tour itinerary was well planned with a comfortable lunch break in the middle -- the restaurant was quite tourist oriented but I'm not sure there are many options within the temple complex. One minor point of feedback for the tour company: it would be great if they could proactively confirm pickup times the day before via email; we had to call the company and confirm ourselves.

The day started as planned and we had a wonderful small group of 7 people. Choup our guide was knowledgeable and provided a variety of perspectives on the Khmer culture and political standpoint. The itinerary was well-executed and my elderly mom enjoyed the trip. Choup was sensitive to her needs and she had a great time. I would recommend the tour for my friends.

Choub was our guide, and he gave us lots of information about the area, took us to the best spots for pictures, and was a blast the entire day! Highly recommend.

Our tour guide Phuy Phy was one of the best tour guide ever! Not only because he explained everything in full but he was a great photographer too. All the shots taken by Phy were wonderful and are FB /Instagram profile page calibre. I would recommend the tour agency and Phuy Phy to all my friends who would like to visit Siem Reap.

I really enjoyed the tour. My tour guide, Mr Choub had an expansive knowledge of the history of all the temples and was able to answer any question put forward to him, in detail. He also went out of his way to take photos for me and other group members. The weather was great (sunny) and I felt as though the tour was well paced, so we weren't out of breath. Lunch (not included) was alright, a tad on the expensive side for Siem Reap but the restaurant itself was nice. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this tour to family and friends.

Only in Siem Teap for a short visit, so this tour provided a highlight tour (Angkor Wat, Ta Proehm, and Angkor Thom/Bayon. Plenty of inside information (and cold water) was provided to enhance the tour. Only ten people in our group so the size was very manageable.

The English speaking guide was very good. The day tour was perfect. The only problem we faced was in lunch when there was no indian food available.

Wonderful tour with Mr. Chet as our guide, who was very knowledgeable about the area; we first went to Angkor Thom (Bayon Temple, the Elephant Terrace), and went to Ta Prohm before lunch. We then spent two hours at Angkor Wat in the afternoon. I learned a lot!! We had 7 on our tour—loved every minute. We went to a great place for lunch where entree items ranged from $6-$8 USD-delicious fish amok!! Highly recommend. Our tour guide, Mr. Chet was great.

The tour was terrific. It was well organised and the guide Mr Nak was very informative and helpful. He made it a great experience. The sights themselves were awesome and well explained by the guide

This tour exceeded even my best expectations. Our guide was amazing. He answered questions, knew everything there was to know about the temples, and even gave money he found to landmine victims. We spent more than enough time at the sites (unlike some other tours I have taken) and just had a really pleasant experience. Book with confidence. The entire group left as friends.

Our tour guide, Nak, was so very informative and really made this tour interesting and alive. The site itself is fabulous, the sculpture on stone tell stories in Hindu mythology. The day was long and hard work but I don't think anyone will be disappointed. Great tour and great tour guide

Good selection of temples in the Angkor complex, with time for lunch. Highlight is the Angkor Wat with stories of its history and culture. Ta Prohm is amazing while Bayon is mysterious and grand.

Really enjoyed this trip. Would definitely recommend. We saw all the major places of Angkor Wat while our tour guide was very good at English and told many interesting facts and stories. We got free water when needed which was nice in the humid heat. They also offered umbrellas. Only minus was that the restaurant they drove us to was a bit overpriced. Overall a very good experience.

The tour is excellent. Our tour guide Vanlonh is professional, polite and efficient. He took good care of us and added laughter and fun to our trip. He gave us a lot of information on the historical sites and helped us take lovely photos. The driver is great too. I highly recommend this tour and the tour guide Vanlonh.

Loved this tour! Our guide was very knowledgeable gave us plenty of time for pictures and even helped us locate the best picture spots! Truly enjoyed this day! Despite it being very humid our guide ensured we had plenty of water and time to rest before heading to each temple.

It was a very interesting tour, the guide was also excellent, and also the place where he brought us for lunch, a kind of plantation where you could eat and relax lying on a wooden platform with cushions. The only thing I would have changed is that we entered to Angkor Thom not through the South Gate, more tipical, and nicer but though the East Gate. The guide was very well documented and answered all our qüestions, and also took pictures of us in nice points he knew . We were really a small group of about 8 which make very easy going through the visit. The guide excellent and with very good manners, very very nice I'm sorry I can't remember his name

An excellent tour. The temples were amazing and our guide, 'Mr Phearom' was very knowledgeable, had very good English, a great sense of humour and was able to advise on local dishes at the restaurant. Very good value.

The Angkor Wat complex is huge. I would not attempt to do it on your on, unless you have unlimited time and your own car. Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. He knew how to dodge some of the crowds as well as good spots for photos. It was a day well spent.

There were 6 of us on the tour and the guides name was Noy who explained the history as we went around, it made for a very interesting day, He readily answered any questions we asked. The driver of the very comfortable, air cooled bus was always waiting with cold water after each temple. A lot of walking and steep stairs are involved but boy is it worth it. The different temples take your breath away. Noy certainly looked after us and i would recommend Viator and Noy to all who are interested in visiting the wonders of Angkor Wat.
