Important InfoInfo
Start your experience with a pickup at your centrally located Budapest hotel, and drive to the Etyek-Buda wine region, about 30 minutes away. Admire the vine-coated hills as you approach the town of Etyek, the hub of this relatively young wine industry that started when German settlers planted vines here around 200 years ago.

Hear about Etyek’s famous fresh and crisp white wines, typically grown from pinot gris and sauvignon blanc grapes, and its celebrated sparkling Törley wine. Then, visit Old Wine Hill where nearly 1,000 mostly disused wine cellars sprinkle the slopes. Enjoy the views over the vineyards, public grape presses and villages below as your guide explains more about the local soils and acidities.

Visit small, family-run wineries and sample four wines in each, along with tasty Hungarian snacks. In the morning tour you will get to see two wineries and in the longer afternoon tour you will visit 3 wineries. As you sip, learn local winemaking secrets from your friendly host — usually the winery owner and winemaker rolled into one. Discuss each wine with the host and get a truly personal take on each variety you’re tasting. You’ll leave with a really intimate understanding of the traditions, peoples and countryside that make the wines here so special.

Afterward, enjoy a delicious 2-course dinner at a wine estate. If it’s summer, dine outside, or if it's winter, sit down at a table inside a cellar. Savor the classic Hungarian dishes and discuss your wine discoveries as you eat, perhaps enjoying some wine (own expense) with your food. See the Itinerary for a sample menu.

Lastly, drive back to Budapest where a hotel drop-off marks the end of your tour.

Julianna was an amazing guide throughout the tour. The wineries were tasty and the dinner by Gabor was fantastic. A truly fantastic experience to get out of the city and see some local culture and flavor.

Informative a d pleasant guide accompanied us on a very well organized tour of 3 wineries The vintners each had their own personalities, were pleasant and engaging. The food and wine was also great. They made us feel at home!

We had a wonderful time visiting with the vineyard managers and sampling the wine. Our guide was personable. The dinner at the last vineyard was delicious and provided a glimpse of rural life in Hungary. The pick up and return to our hotel was seamless and on time. The van was comfortable with a careful driver.

It was a nice day out of Budapest. A fun international group and a good tour guide Margareta. It was her birthday and she still managed to come on the trip with us. I loved all the little wineries, the good wine and food. Really worth it!

I gave this tour a 5 it probably shouldn’t have for one reason. Our guide, Peter, was excellent. The wineries were very good. They are small but make some good wine. They are in a small village of 4,000 about 45 minutes outside of Budapest. We were with a couple from Israel, a couple from Germany and a lady from Beirut. They were all young and my husband and I are not, but we had a great time with them. The only glitch was our dinner at the last winery. The chef somehow only prepared 7 dinners and gave one to Peter so the young man from Israel did not get a dinner. This never should have happened. By the time the rest of us were finished, they brought something different to him. He couldn’t eat the meat portion so the chef just took the meet away and left the rest of the dish. They did give him a bottle of wine as an apology but it shouldn’t have happened. The guide should have had the quickly prepared dish. It was a fun evening because of the people in the group.

Beautiful journey into area west of Budapest visiting the Anonymous winery. Followed by the Debreczeni Pince Winery with a Hungary meal, wines accompanied each course. Set on the side of the hillside, fragrances or multicoloured roses enhanced the eye and wines teased the palate.

One of our highlights from our stay in Budapest. Visited 2 wineries and had a very delicious 3 course Hungarian meal. I would highly recommend.

I always try to do a wine tour while on holiday, the wineries were a good mix of new and old, the wine was lovely (bought some bottles at each winery) and the last winery with dinner was amazing, I would definitely recommend this.

I did the dinner version of the tour. There is an extra winery on that version. All three wineries were really good and dinner at the last one was incredibly delicious. Our tour guide was so funny and so informative. I would recommend 10/10 and would do it again.

We really enjoyed our trip to Etyek with a very knowledgeable English speaking guide and had a great time on this semi-private tour. There were only 8-10 people on the small bus. The countryside was interesting and the old winery buildings were also. The winery hosts were very gracious and provided a lot of information about their businesses and process to make their wines. I am not a wine drinker so only took small sips, but my daughter said everything was really great. And we both really enjoyed the traditional meal provided at our last stop. Highly recommend this tour even if you are not a wine drinker. It was very well organized and ran on time.

We had a group of 8 seniors take the tour. We were in Europe for a river cruise. Our total time in Europe was 21 days. This was our favorite excursion out of 20.

We had a great trip to Etyek showing us the countryside with Petet giving us a knowledgeable commentary. We then visited 3 family run wineries. We really enjoyed the wine at the first, the view at the second and the food at the third but really they were all well worth a visit. A great excursion. Thank you Peter.

This was a great tour with only 12 of us. We had Australians, Canadians and Americans. Everyone mixed well and we had so much fun. Susan our guide was great. We went to 3 wineries which were all next to each other. All were good but the best was left to last. This is where we had dinner and the host was excellent. He was Extremely entertaining and looked after us very well. We could have stayed longer as we were all having a good time but of course we had to get back. I would strongly recommend this tour. The wines were good and if you are lucky enough to get a good bunch of people with you it makes it so much fun.

This was the best tour of our trip! Beautiful scenery, family wineries and great wine and dinner! Well worth the price!

Our tour was fantastic! We made contact with 11 others in our small group and proceeded to have a FANTASTIC time. We are "age mature adults" but we quickly made friends with the younger people in the group. By the 3rd winery we were in the middle of one of our best tours ever! The coach was comfortable and our tour guide was exceptional. We lucked out and got mixed in with a fun loving group and made the most of it. Remember, you make your own fun!!!! Just remember: THIS IS YOUR LIFE AND IT IS NOT A REHEARSAL! THERE ARE NO DO OVERS!!! MAKE THE VERY BEST OF IT! WE DID AND WE DO! \Doug and Chris Reed
