Stop At: Isola di Murano, Isola Di Murano Piazzale Roma o Fondamenta Nuove, 30141 Murano Italy

The enchanting islands of Murano and Burano are the perfect change of pace from Venice’s crowded streets and waterways. And the perfect way to reach them is by private water taxi. Faster and sturdier than a gondola, nimbler and less crowded than a waterbus, water taxis are the premier way to travel in Venice. Few visitors get to experience them, but yours is included, along with an expert local guide who’ll explain Venice’s history as a titan of trade along the way.

Your first port of call is a specially chosen glassblowing workshop on Murano. In the Middle Ages, only Murano’s artisans possessed the secrets of this craft, and sharing them was punishable by execution. You’ll get to witness modern glassblowers wield those once secret techniques, shaping delicate and dazzling works of art from molten glass. Then admire the workshop’s finest work in its gallery, and perhaps take home a piece of your own – with a tour discount. Or explore more of Murano, including its peaceful canals and stunning Byzantine church.

Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes

Stop At: Isola di Burano, Unnamed Road,30142, 30142 Venezia VE, Italy

The locals of nearby Burano still maintain the island’s tradition of handmade lace, some of the finest anywhere in the world. You’ll get to observe lace being hand-stitched the way it has been for generations. Then visit the lace museum to see the island’s greatest work, or simply enjoy the photo opportunity provided by the colorful houses, brightly painted so sailors could see home as they returned from the sea. When you cross the lagoon back to Venice, you’ll have a renewed appreciation of the crafts that put the city on the map so long ago.

Wonderful tour! Our tour guide Chiara was knowledgable, funny and enthusiastic. The glass blowing demonstration in Murano was interesting and enlightening while the colorful houses along the canals of Burano were absolutely beautiful. Excellent experience, highly recommended.

This was a very good tour of both islands. The guide, Francesca B, provided a lot of very interesting information and the locations visited were beautiful. Good value considering the cost of vaporetto tickets to try to do it on your own, plus lots of information, questions answered, and you are shown where to go so you know what you are doing. Quite a bit of free time to explore both islands.

Thank you to our guide Lara, for showing us around the islands of Murano and Burano. My husband and I visited Venice on our honeymoon and had a great day doing this tour! Both islands are unique with their murano glass and handmade lace trades, we definitely learned a lot. Lara was awesome, highly recommended!

A private wood speedboat takes you to both islands and a guide tells you many interesting details. Glass blowing on Murano is really interesting but buying anything there is over priced when you can buy it on Burano. Lace making is a homey delight with a demonstration and many sales. Lots of time to shop. Loved this tour. The open boat on the water going full speed ahead might now be the best tour on a rainy cold day.

This half-day tour is very worthwhile....seeing the islands of Murano and Burano is a must during a visit to Venice! Our guide was Cristina and she gave an excellent commentary throughout, even during the sailing time between islands. In addition to information regarding the islands, she also gave a very interesting insight into Venetian life in general and was very willing to suggest reasonably priced places to eat or drink. Both islands were worth visiting for different reasons....however, the free time element was a bit rushed in both cases after obligatory visits to a glass manufacturer in Murano and a lace maker in Burano. In the latter case, make sure you find the older part of town by the harbour as this is where the most picturesque, colourful houses are......the guide should point out the alley way to use as a matter of course. All in all, an excellent tour which makes you feel that you have seen another side to the hustle and bustle of central Venice.

This tour was excellent but made particularly interesting by the passion and knowledge of our tour guide, Alessandro. Sometimes these types of tours can be a bit 'dry' but Alessandro's passion for Venice and detailed knowledge made the afternoon very engaging. Murano was always going to be a highlight but we found Burano equally as impressive and an unexpected bonus.

Kristine was a fabulous guide on our boat trip to Murano and Burano! She’s an Venice native and has a wealth of knowledge about the history of Venice which she provides as you ride between the islands. The tours of the glass and lace making were incredible—such beautiful art! She gives you plenty of free time with recommendations on both islands so you can explore and experience each one of your own! This tour was one of our top favorite things we did in Italy!!! Don’t miss out!

This was a wonderful half day tour. We had plenty of time to visit both the Murano and Burano Islands. We saw how glass and lace were made...truly a sight to behold. Don't miss this tour. Well worth it.

Lovely trip to the islands. Weather definitely helped. Glass factory fascinating, but Burano the highlight for me. Our guide was Alessandro, and her tips, knowledge and stories definitely made a good trip a great one.

This was a wonderful excursion and our visit to Venice would not have been complete without it. It gave us a sense of the incredible diversity in and around Venice. Murano was amazing for its craftsmanship and glass making and Burano was stunningly beautiful. Our guide (Kristine) was phenomenal.

Our tour guide Monica provided a great commentary, a bit of history and other interesting information about the area. The glass blowing demonstration on Murano was amazing with absolutely no pressure to buy anything but plenty of opportunity to look at their products. The lace making on Burano was interesting too - the effort involved is incredible - again no pressure to buy. Plenty of free time to look around the islands and take photos, and stop for snacks, all nicely rounded off with a boat ride back to Venice as the sun was setting - quite romantic!

The trip to Burano and Murano is worthwhile for anyone spending more than a day or two in Venice. The water taxi is a beautiful boat, and the ride is nice (although I recommend sitting in the front section, off to one side. The back portion ends up getting filled with exhaust from the engine, and the very front seat makes it hard to turn and see anything, and gets splashed as soon as you get out into choppy open water). The glass blowing demonstrations is very impressive, and the glass factory is filled with amazing works of art. They are not cheap, but they are beautiful and singular. We did not see the town, because we ended up purchasing some stuff and spent time getting it packaged, etc. Burano, however, was beautiful. The lace work is intricate, and worth seeing, but just walking through the town is an experience. The colors and the shops are definitely worth a visit. Thank you, Alexandra!

This tour was a perfect amount of time on each of the islands. Our tour guide kept us well informed of where to meet to move on and recommended unique souvenirs and treats. I’m glad we took this tour since these islands are mentioned very often when speaking of Venice. Also, it was neat to see glass pieces made right in front of us.

Don't miss this....especially if you are lucky enough to have Serena as your guide. She was waiting for us at the designated place and once on board, her commentary was so interesting and FUNNY! Her enthusiasm for her work shines through. We learned so much about Venice itself and the islands. We didn't want it to end. Serena made it quite worthwhile and FUN!

Great trip! Very interesting Islands to see the art of lace making and glass blowing in charming villages. Our guide Alessandra P. was excellent. Very knowledgable of both Islands and Venice in general and took the time to chat with each person and answer any additional questions they might have. Highly recommend!

Really enjoyed both islands and the short introduction to glass making at the New Murano Glass Factory and the place making on Burano. Enrico was a fountain of knowledge during the time on the boat. We will have to go back to the islands to see more.
