Pass By: Anne Frank House, Prinsengracht 263 - 267 museum entrance Westermarkt 20, 1016 DK Amsterdam The Netherlands

The Anne Frank House (Dutch: Anne Frank Huis) is a writer's house and biographical museum dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank. The building is located on a canal called the Prinsengracht, close to the Westerkerk, in central Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

During World War II, Anne Frank hid from Nazi persecution with her family and four other people in hidden rooms at the rear of the 17th-century canal house, known as the Secret Annex (Dutch: Achterhuis). She did not survive the war but her wartime diary was published in 1947. Ten years later the Anne Frank Foundation was established to protect the property from developers who wanted to demolish the block.

Pass By: Westerkerk, Prinsengracht 279-281, 1016 GW Amsterdam The Netherlands

The Westerkerk was built between 1620 and 1631 in Renaissance style according to designs by architect Hendrick de Keyser (1565-1621). He is buried in the church he designed earlier: the 'Zuiderkerk'. The building of the Westerkerk was finished and completed by his son Pieter de Keyser (1595-1676) and inaugurated on June 8, 1631. The church has a length of 58 meters and a width of 29 meters. The high nave is flanked by the two lower aisles. The three-aisled basilica has a rectangular plan with two transepts of equal dimensions. As a result, the plan for this church was given the form of two Greek crosses connected with each other.[2] (a patriarchal cross).

Several older churches in Amsterdam, such as Oude Kerk and Nieuwe Kerk, were originally built before the Reformation and were converted to Protestantism during the Reformation in 1578. The Westerkerk was one of the first purposely built Protestant churches. The Noorderkerk and Zuiderkerk preceded the Westerkerk. Today the Westerkerk remains the largest church in the Netherlands that was built for Protestants, and is still in use by the PKN (Protestantse Kerk in Nederland)

The Grachtengordel (known in English as the Canal District) is a neighborhood in Amsterdam, Netherlands located in the Centrum district. The seventeenth-century canals of Amsterdam, located in the center of Amsterdam, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in August 2010.[1] The Amsterdam Canal District consists of the area around the city’s four main canals: the Singel, the Herengracht, the Keizersgracht, and the Prinsengracht. From the Brouwersgracht, the canals are generally parallel with one another, leading gradually southeast into the Amstel river.

Many of the canal houses in the Amsterdam Canal District are from the Dutch Golden Age, 17th century. Many of these buildings, however, underwent restoration or reconstruction in various centuries, meaning that these building display many different architectural styles and facades

Breaking the ice in the river tour, was amazing in itself! The tour guide was very informative, the indoor heated seating was comfortable. We were able to see many sites through the city and view the out edges of town. Worth the money to go.

Interesting cruise, seeing the canals in and out. Perhaps the night cruise would be more interesting because of the lights.

It was great! I wish it did not rain so i can get a good picture! Amsterdam is awesome! I will definitely come back. I just loved that i booked a hotel very closed to all the attractions. Apollo Museum Hotel, it's not a five star hotel but it's in a good location.

Excellent canal cruise. The boat pilot added interesting details about sights that we passed. The trip was just the right length, about 75 minutes. Very enjoyable.

This is a must-do cruise trip for any first-time visitor to Amsterdam. Advance online booking for this 75 minutes cruise for the desired day through viator was very convenient. Enjoyed it thoroughly!
• Submitted 10 Oct 2017
We really enjoyed our tour around the canals of Amsterdam. We had an on-line print out of our voucher, which we gave to the boat co-ordinator and got straight on the boat. We asked to wait for the next boat as it was very busy when we turned up, this was fine and we were shown where to stand to enable us to get first on the next boat. This trip is very good value for money. :-

A great, quick way to see the city! I really enjoyed the information they gave during the tour as it was a nice introduction to the city and how it was built. Highly recommend!
• Submitted 20 Jul 2017
This is a great trip. 75 mins. There are 2 sides to the Hard Rock café. The Blue Boat company is on the canal side of Hard Rock not the courtyard side, Thoroughly recommended.
• Submitted 01 Jul 2017
Great way to get to know the main places in Amsterdam and thereafter explore on your own.
• Submitted 24 Jun 2017
Boat trip itself is worth the price. The process of exchanging your voucher for a ticket and then boarding the boat could be run better. Viator instructions indicate with Blue Boat voucher, you can board at some other companies. But they rejected my voucher because they had a lot of groups that day and no seats were available. After walking there, we were forced to walk another 15 minutes to get to Blue Boat.

This is a brilliant way to see Amsterdam and get a taste of the city via the canals before exploring on foot, or bike! The audio guide was helpful and informative and the whole experience was brilliant from booking to taking the cruise. We are going to return to Amsterdam next year and will do the evening cruise at that point. Can't recommend this highly enough....great time had by both of us.
