Pedro Pedrosa was our tour guide and he provided a perfect tour. There were only the two of us as it was during the slower season of October. We visited two beautiful and private wine estates, hidden away in the serene and breathtaking hills, plus had a delightful lunch of typical regional food and a visit to the cathedral in Amarante. Pedro was very informative, friendly, and gracious. He has a wonderful sense of humor. By the end of the tour, we felt as if we had toured the area with a friend.

Our driver Luis was prompt and professional. He gave us the background of wine making while driving is to our first winery. The first winery was magical. Mr. Fernandes was an excellent host and took us on a tour of his estate which was amazing. He explained the process of making 'green wine' and afterwards presented a delicious wine tasting along with some yummy snacks. We did not want to leave. Then Luis took us to a popular local restaurant in a small village where we ate a traditional lunch along with the locals. Afterwards Luis drove us to a second winery, not as charming as Mr. Fernando's winery but very nice as well, and different. Here we also got a tour of the grounds which included some very old buildings. Afterwards we were presented with some delicious wine to taste but unfortunately no snacks were presented. This tour was excellent and worth the money and we would go again in a heartbeat.

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip. Our tour host Marco was fantastic. Both estates were wonderful, with Mr. Fernando the owner of the first stop, taking the time to personally walk us through his estate. Marco went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great day. Highly recommended!

What a trip! We had a great tour guide but the property we visited was the best I have ever visited! The owner, an elderly man whose name escapes me as I am writing this was a delight. His passion for his property, the wines he produces, his gardens and his love for what he is creating is infectious! A total delight!

Our guide Marco was enthusiastic, spoke excellent english and was a conservative driver on what were pretty windy roads. The farm we visited in the morning made the trip for us.An excellent day.

We have done a lot of wine tours over the years but this one was very special for us. We had a private tour as no one else had booked for the day. So grateful they did not cancel it. Our guide John was fantastic and was in tune to what we were enjoying and allowed us time based on this. The small, quaint wineries that we visited were just our style. Everything about the day was perfect - the wine, the food, and the people we met. The day was the highlight of our two weeks in Portugal and Spain.

Absolutely wonderful! I highly recommend this tour.

This is an excellent alternative to the more popular Douro Valley tours. Our guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating and picked us up from right outside out apartment. We would absolutely encourage people to try this tour and experience the fabulous vineyard of the entrepreneurial Fernando Fernandes and much, much more!

Quite interesting tour. Especially first part of the day. We have really interesting walking with owner of the first small winery and wine in this winery was beautiful. Tasting of the wine in this winery with range of other delicacies produced on the estate or in the area was excellent.

This tour was our favorite activity of our entire vacation in Porto and Lisbon. Our tour guide, Pedro, was really great - besides being extremely personable and knowledgeable about the area and wineries, he also gave us some suggestions for restaurants in Porto that were delicious! In addition, I appreciate that he gave us time to explore on our own during some parts of the tour. As other reviewers have stated, the first winery of this tour - Quinta das Escomoeiros - is something really special. The owner, Fernando, walked us around the property and then provided a tasting red, rose, and white vinho verde with cheese, etc. The relaxing nature of the experience made us want to stay all day, but the following lunch in Amarante and second winery tour at Quinta da Aveleda were also very enjoyable. While we can get Aveleda wine in the U.S., the winery property is beautiful, making it a great place for photos. Overall, I highly recommend this tour and the tour company, Cooltour OPorto!

This is a trip that should not be missed. We had an excellent driver and guide, Pedro who was very knowledgeable and spoke excellent English. We learnt so much, not just about wine and wine production, but about the whole area and it's history. The two visits were contrasting and both exceptional in their own way. The morning was spent on a small estate, around which we were taken by the enthusiastic owner. It concluded with a generous tasting of the estate's wine plus a range of other delicacies produced on the estate or in the area. The word 'awesome' comes to mind in summing up the experience. Lunch at a small family run restaurant in Amarante was very good - grilled meats accompanied by salads, rice and potatoes and washed down with a local red wine. The second visit was to a large commercial producer, a total contrast to the morning's visit but also very interesting and informative. In all, a brilliant day that provided a great experience of the Vinho Verde area.

The first winery we visited was outstanding! The land that the winery was on was beyond describing. Also the wine was very good, so good we had to take a few bottles with us. We then went to a small town for lunch which was very enjoyable. Later in the afternoon we visited a larger and more commercial winery. The gardens there were very interesting.

Absolutely wonderful! Especially the morning wine tasting with visit to the river-the nibbles with the tasting were delicious and I especially enjoyed seeing the vegetable gardens and the incredibly old vines. We would love to go back and spend a few days here.

A fabulous day for everyone in our group, great wine, excellent guide and well worth the cost. Learnt so much about Portuguese wine and the region, thank you Peter . The lunch was also excellent. I took my 11 year old son who was also well catered for and he had a great time too. Will definitely be back for more.

vinho verde a young or green wine is second-most exclusively Portuguese wine in the world. It is fresh and crispy and perfect in summer. And green wine tour in northern Portugal vinho verde region is perfect for the summer trip. The tour was organized by Cooltour Oporto and starting from the comfortable minivan, interesting route, excellent guide Pedro and, of course, the wine itself - it was a great trip! One of our best memories from Portugal. I cant even say which one I liked better - visiting small winery Quinta das Escomoeiros very beautiful, welcoming and tasty or visiting Quinta Aveleda, an historic and famous large winery with super beautiful gardens, house and tasty wine again. We had lunch in Amarante city which is known in region for its good food. Specialty of the region is meat and the one we had for lunch was really delicious. Since we were only 3 travelers that day we in all actuality had premium class private tour the day was pure pleasure. Did I already mention it was beautiful and tasty? :

A thoroughly excellent tour through beautiful countryside. Pedro was an excellent guide, at once knowledge and friendly. The tour had two parts - a visit to a renovated wine farm now offering idyllic accommodation and a visit to a large commercial winery with a beautiful historic house attached. Very different but both wonderful in their own special way. Altogether thoroughly pleasurable and highly recommended!

I took six tours in Portugal last week. This one was the best even better than Cool Tours' Douro Valley Tour because Pedro is the best guide. He loves conversation, people, and history-- and he is a good ambassador for Portugal and the Porto area. This tour included Quinta das Escomeiras, a paradise with ancient trees, good walking trails, and rare breeds of donkey and horse. They are working on official recognition of organic horticultural practices, and the place is alive. We had good views and did not want to leave this estate, as the hospitality of Fernando was welcoming. I'm thankful we got some exercise as I didn't merely want to sit and drink-- so we explored nature. The other estate was good too, with peacocks and walking trails. The city of Amarante has good stories and the lunch meal was excellent. A Swiss-Brazilian family of high character provided good company, as did Pedro. Book this tour if you love nature, conversation, and good drinks.

This was an absolutely wonderful tour and definitely my best tour experience of the trip. I usually do things on my own rather than with a tour group, but this excursion was not something I could have done on my own at least without a vehicle. There were only three of us and our guide, Pedro. He let us go at our own pace and was very friendly and knowledgeable. Even if you don't like wine you would enjoy this tour as the scenery is beautiful. I had only tasted white vinho verde and have never seen anything other than white in the U.S. so I was excited to try the rose and red, which were wonderful. I brought back several bottles to the U.S. Do this tour -- you won't regret it!

For this, our second tour during our visit to Porto, there were only three of us English speakers. Our guides Pietro and Alex were great fun and gave us a fantastic tour. The food and wine was great and there was plenty of it! If we go back to Porto we will definitely do this tour again.

We had a great day during which we learned a lot of making "vinho verde" and saw very green and beautiful landscapes of Minho-area. The tour was organized by Cooltour Oporto and their staff was excellent in their job! We had a great chauffor Pedro, who guided us very thoroughly and he were very helpful in answering our many questions. Thanks Pedro!! The best part of the tour was visiting at Quinta das Escomoeiros where we got a very deep insight in making "vinho verde". Thank you very much / muito obrigada! BR Mrs and Mr Sarvela from Finland

This was a great tour! Our guide was friendly and accommodating, he tried to make it a very special experience. We had a really relaxing walk through the vineyards and grounds of the wine estates, definitely bring comfortable shoes! Everyone gave great information on the wine making process and we were given plenty of time to relax and enjoy the wine. Definitely do this tour!

The Minho region is a must for Vinho Verde wine lovers, adventurers, and travelers who want to get off the tourist track and experience the region at a deeper level. Our guides, Pedro and Barbara, helped us to do exactly that. The first stop was a rural wine estate, beautifully restored, that has just started accepting overnight guests. Wear your walking shoes and outdoor clothing; we walked through the organic garden and the forest trail to the river with a small waterfall, then toured the winery upon return. Bring your swimsuit, as we next plunged into the beautiful pool, and lounged about with no other guests, just the four of us, surrounded by lush hillsides of forest and vineyards. After a quick shower in the spa area, we were treated to a wine tasting, artisanal snacks, and plenty of conviviality on the wooden deck, overlooking the pool and the landscape beyond. Breathtaking. Think rural Sonoma County, a few decades ago. Next, we enjoyed lunch in the riverside town of Amarante, at a truly local restaurant with fantastic fresh fish, Portuguese kale soup, tripas (stuffed tripe) and refreshing Vinho Verde Tinto, which we haven't even seen in the U.S. The final stop was Quinta Aveleda, an historic and famous winery with grounds that resemble settings in a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, complete with swans and peacocks. After a tour of the winery and the museum area, where a bottle of brandy from the 1700's is displayed, we were led through the grounds, so full of flowers and trees, past a beautiful old estate house, to the wine tasting area for wine and cheese. Quinta Aveleda does export to the U.S., but the first estate we visited is a small producer and does not currently export to the U.S. It was a full day, our best in Portugal, and traveling with Pedro and Barbara was just like traveling with two of your favorite friends. Pack your sense of adventure and good humor and this will be your favorite tour too.
