Montserrat is a rocky mountain located 50 km to the southwest of Barcelona. It is considered the most significant and important mountain of Catalonia. The etymology of Montserrat comes from Catalan Mont (mountain) and serrat (serrated).

The importance of this mountain is due to the legend of the miraculous appearance of the Madonna and Child in one of the caves. This cave received the name Santa Cova (The Saint Cave). To this day the wood carving of the Madonna and Child are kept in the Church of the monastery and it is possible to visit it. We really enjoyed this trip, the Monastery has a lot of everything for everyone. It has option for trail walk, a museum, children's choir and of course the Cathedral. The operator tour Juliá didn’t explain you about it’s avoid to eat and drink in the bus, the food in the souvenir store is expensive and not really from Monserrat if you look the tags, it’s better to shop products out of the monastery, there are local seller y local products, they are cheaper and delicious.

Amazing views. Incredible mountains. I couldn't believe they could build something so far up the mountain.

The ride to Monserrat was on a excellent bus with a great guide (Gabriela) . She was informative and had good knowledge of Monserrat. She gave clear directions and was always availe for questions. Driver appears dead new as she helped guide him where to go. Everything was on time. Would highly recommend

We enjoyed the tour immensely. Wish we had opted for the full day tour as there were many things to do on the mountain. Guide was extremely helpful.

We were very happy the tour went on as planned because of the civil unrest. Our guide was very good at giving us an overview and allowing us to have free time. Enjoyed the whole trip.

The Basilica was beautiful seeing the Black Madonna was very emotional as a Catholic we looked forward to this as a highlight of our trip. The train was fun and the views were incredible.

This was an awesome tour, we thoroughly enjoyed it, the drive was reasonable, the place was amazing, the guide was awesome, thank you!

This is an amazing site to visit, however; I would recommend going up to the Monastery on your own. My daughter and I did the guided tour. It is a speed-version. We were only allowed an hour to explore. You need an entire day if you are going to see The Madonna, tour the museum and get a hike in. Will definitely return and spend the whole day here!

I enjoyed this tour immensely. If you can, walk up to the cross and see the most breathtaking views ever! Beautiful place and my tour guide was great! Worth every penny spent!

We really enjoyed the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable. The mountain was beautiful and riding up on the Cog Train afforded fantastic views. Seeing the Black Virgin and Monastery was awesome. Be sure and buy some of the local cheese.

Prior to booking, I felt like the reviews were mixed. I am SO happy we decided to do this. This is a must do when visiting Barcelona. First I want to PRAISE our tour guide Christina! She was great. Friendly, knowledgeable, patient and kind. She told us so many facts about Montserrat, and the entire way to the Monastery. She spoke slowly, which made the abundance of information understandable. We started off on a large tour bus, which was a pleasant surprise. Very comfortable and equipped with AC. As we made our treck to Montserrat, Christina explained the history of Barcelona and Catalonia along the way. The cogwheel train ride was a thrill, and our free time around the monastery was great, only wish we could have had a little more time. We stood in line for about 45min to see the Black Madonna, something I also urge you to do. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity. The views were spectacular, and the architecture falls right in line with the rest of the history of Spain. Take the family, there is plenty to see!

We thoroughly enjoyed this train ride and tour of the monastery. The only negative is that our tour guide’s English was difficult to understand.

The your was well organized. Govana the guide was fantastic. My only complaint was that we had to make our way from the cruise terminal to Julia tour office which was an additional cost to bear by taxi Would have been better if we were given directions to use the shuttle provided at €5 to the town.

The trip was worth seeing but the tour guide was not much good. His iinstructions on things was poor. Other guides on the train up the mountain advised of good picture opportunities. he didn't. He left his mic on and spoke to himself not knowing everyone could hear.

Despite the long travel and no toilet stops in between, the views were immaculate from the top. Best advice i could give is to bring your own snacks as the food court up there had limited choice and food didn't taste that great. Also, bring a warm jacket as it gets really cold up there. Overall, a lovely experience

This is a great tour for someone who wants to visit Montserrat but not spend the whole day there. Our tour guide, Cecilia, did a great job narrating on the drive there then showing us around the area. We had a little over an hour of free time, and Cecilia explained our options of what to do with that time. It was a great tour.

Recommended if you don't mind wasting 9 hours on one activity, cogwheel ride was amazing. The Guide was ok, not much of details needed anyways, the point is to enjoy the scenery, the architecture and the amazing view from up there
