Wat Mahathat, “the temple of the Great Relic” was one of the most important temples in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Located on the historical island the large monastery features a huge central prang, a very large principal viharn and ubosot and a great number of subsidiary chedis and viharns. The upper part of its once massive central prang has collapsed. Today only the base remains.

This tour was very well organised and our tour guide was very informative and funny. The tour company rang our hotel the day before to give us an exact time of pick up. We traveled in an air conditioned coach and there was enough time at each stop to explore. Lunch on the boat coming down the river was superb and would accomodate most people’s taste or dietary requirements. The boat also had air conditioning which is important in a place like Bangkok. Even getting our mini bus home was a breeze. I would highly recommend this tour.

We weren't sure what to expect on this trip as our previous trip booked through Viator had been a bit disappointing, however, this was fantastic. We were picked up on time in front of our hotel and had a great guide called Rose. She was informative and funny and it gave us a flavour of history, culture and life in Thailand. The temples we visited were interesting and I felt we spent enough time at each place and the journey was really pleasant. The afternoon boat cruise was a real surprise, I'd expected lunch in a canteen and a little boat trip, so to get on a lovely boat with a huge buffet selection was lovely. My husband and son are vegetarian and they were brought special dishes to the table. It was a fantastic trip and one I would recommend.

The guide and driver were nice and the temples and palaces were worth visiting. Thanks for the bottle of water, wet tissue and air-conditioned bus, I could tolerate the hot temperture in the middle of the day. The cruise meal was pleasant surprise since it was more than I expected.

Collection from my hotel was at 7am, the confirmation email also advised that clothing should cover shoulders and ankles. We stopped at several historic sites where the guide provided a lot of information and then we were given free time at each place to wander by ourselves. The second half of the trip was a river cruise, where lunch was provided and commentary of the sites we passed by. It was an excellent trip which I highly recommend. We were taken back to our pick up points at the end of the trip.

This tour was excellent. 5-star with respect to logistics, knowledge of the tour staff, quality of the itinerary and execution of the meal. The hotel pick-up and drop-off is a great bonus because it makes it so easy to go. All vehicles had air con. The tour guide had such an incredible amount of knowledge about every part of the tour and about Thailand in general. Everything was on time and the buffet lunch was well thought out and the variety was impressive. The reverence of the temples by the locals is awe inspiring. Please remember to be respectful at the temples. This tour accepts single people, which is nice because not all do. The only thing that took away from the experience was that some of the places had many tourists who did not seem to have the appropriate level of respect for these places. Many people wanted to take pictures of themselves at the temples, rather than the temples themselves. This can be overlooked though and you can really have the tour of a lifetime as I did.
