I had a fabulous time on my recent tour of Russia.
The tour leader, Victoria Romanenkova was absolutely brilliant. I cannot put in words how excellent she is. She is a real asset to On The Go. Her knowledge is exceptional and she is extremely approachable, willing to help out in any situation. Her operational skills were also very good. The local tour guides were very good overall – the lady we had on the Moscow By Night bus trip was totally brilliant, as was the guide who took us around the Kremlin. I thought the hotels we stayed in were great too – clean, friendly and very well located in St. Petersburg.
The tour was very well structured. It was evenly spaced out with ample time in both Moscow and St. Petersburg. The one night in Pskov with the banya experience was an excellent addition within the tour – it broke up the two cities and gave me a real experience of Russian living. The food was delicious as well. I like the fact that On The Go adds optional extras as not everyone wants to do the same thing – but no-one should miss the Pukka Pass or the Moscow By Night option. These were both great!
I like the fact that we started in Moscow and finished in St Petersburg. Although Moscow is very interesting, (and the KGB bunker is a real highlight) St Petersburg is incredibly beautiful and really stays in the mind.
From my 13 years of travel, this is the second trip where I have had a local tour leader, and I’m convinced that it’s the way to go. All my other tours that I have been on (about 10 others), the tour leader was not a local, and I definitely got more out of my Russia trip because On The Go use local tour leaders. I will definitely be recommending On The Go Tours to anyone who is interested in touring – and really stressing the importance of local tour guides.
All in all it was great trip!
