Home to some of Africa’s most recognisable names: the Serengeti, the Masai Mara, the Ngorongoro Crater, Mount Kilimanjaro and idyllic Zanzibar, Tanzania should be at the top of every traveller’s wish list. And while this fascinating country has plenty to offer throughout the year, January is a wonderful time to visit and see the herds return to calve following the Great Migration, while also enjoying some of Tanzania’s warmest temperatures. Whether you want to go wildlife spotting in the Sergenti, climb to the summit of Kilimanjaro, opt for an island getaway in Zanzibar or sleep in the Ngorongoro Crater, the choice is yours!


January marks the end of winter in Thailand, and sees temperatures beginning to rise throughout the country making it an excellent time to discover what this tantalizing country has to offer without the sweltering heat of summer. With little rain, this is the best time to explore central and northern Thailand, from bustling Bangkok and the ancient ruins of Sukhothai to the friendly hills tribes of Chiang Rai. Travelling south, the stunning white beaches of the Gulf of Thailand benefit from blue skies, plenty of sunshine and refreshing sea breezes during January – making the perfect conditions to kick back and relax.


With plenty to offer the adventurous at heart, January is the best time to head to Chile. Enjoying warm temperatures and clear skies, this month is a wonderful time to explore the wild landscapes of Patagonia, passing impressive geysers, snow-capped mountains, stunning lakes and smoking volcanos en route. While for the otherworldly salt flats of the expansive Atacama Desert there is never a bad time to visit, with sunny skies and high temperatures. Hike through the dense forest of the Lake District, meet the penguin colonies of Isla Magdelena and much more in January.


January is the ideal time to visit Burma as it comes after the rains of the monsoon season yet before the heat waves of summer. Also known as Myanmar, Burma has retained much of its traditional culture and charm, with exquisite temples and stupas, vibrant festivals and markets, and incredibly warm and friendly people. In January, travellers can find peace exploring Burma’s beautiful temples and pagodas, enjoying the laid-back local spirit and discovering diverse landscapes while basking in warm temperatures and clear skies.

Sri Lanka

Following the end of the monsoon season, the month of January is a wonderful time to head to the tropical isle of Sri Lanka. Travelling in January, travellers will benefit from pleasantly warm temperatures and clear skies while taking in the best of this beguiling country. From the famous rock fortress of Sigiriya to the exquisite cave temples of Dambulla in Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle, to the verdant tea plantations of Nuwara ELiya and the laid-back hill city of Kandy, there is plenty to discover on this Tear Drop Isle.
