One of the best treks in Morocco, but also one of the toughest! The highest peak in North Africa, Mount Toubkal is the perfect trek for those looking for a challenge. Starting in Oukaimeden, Morocco’s most popular ski resort, the route takes you through the rugged High Atlas Mountains to Mount Toubkal’s lofty summit.

Along the way, you’ll pass beautiful lakes, magnificent high passes, and charming Berber villages, with walking times averaging between eight to nine hours each day. Besides the views, you’ll enjoy a night camping by Lake Ifni, which boasts beautiful cobalt-blue waters.

Migration of the Berbers, Morocco
The Migration of the Berbers is a unique trek taking place twice a year

Migration of the Berbers

Trek Duration: 7 Days
Difficulty Rating: Moderate
Route: Tamada to Ait Youl

Offering a unique experience, the Migration of the Berbers trek sees you accompany a traditional nomadic family as they migrate between the high and low Atlas Mountains. Twice a year the Berbers make the journey with their livestock, trekking into the mountains to escape the summer heat and returning to the lower valleys to avoid the freezing winter temperatures.

Spending each night in a rustic Berber camp, you’ll learn all about Berber culture and one of the few lifestyles that still revolves around nature’s timing. Walking for five hours each day, this is as much a cultural experience as it is a trekking adventure. A moderate level of fitness is still required, but it is far less intense than the Mount Toubkal trek, and a memorable experience is guaranteed.
