A letter from our MD

(Last Updated On: July 10, 2020)
On The Go Tours was founded 21 years ago on an old wooden table in Twickenham, West London by two young adventurers who wanted to make going to difficult places easy for travellers living in the UK. Fittingly, I sit at that same table right now, writing this note to you, our global community in a strange new world.

On The Go Tours proudly remains a small and personal business, with family values at our core. Whilst much of our young and dynamic team is temporarily stood down on varying levels of income support, we continue to operate a dedicated international skeleton staff to support our customers until borders reopen and we can all get back to discovering the world.

If you do need to get in touch with us, the quickest way is via email to [email protected]. The team is also making some great new bookings for travel in 2021 now, dare I say it, we are starting to dream again of places beyond our living rooms. Our wonderful tour guides, who, for most of you are the face of On The Go, are eagerly waiting for borders to re-open so they can get back to work and start earning desperately needed income. They also can’t wait to get back to doing what they do best – making those “difficult places” easy again!

I am pleased to say that over 85% of our customers who were due to travel before July this year have rebooked or deferred their travels to later in 2020 or into 2021. By keeping those bookings on file, it gives us the framework and confidence to start locking in those future tour dates and to keep planning for an even brighter future. I say this not only from those of us in the front end of the business, but for all the guides, in-country reps, drivers, felucca captains, cooks, room attendants and hospitality workers who help to deliver your unforgettable adventures. These incredible people currently have very limited income, but they know you are still coming and so are holding on. I promise you they will be there waiting for you when you get there. For now, if you have travelled with us in the past and you still have them on social media – reach out and say hi – I know they would love to hear from you!

We will continue to follow government advice as borders gradually re-open, however we are already busy planning for the future. To give you an idea, we are updating our dates online for departures to Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Morocco, Iceland, Finland and Argentina – all of whom have seen relatively low virus numbers and are getting ready to welcome you to their shores. I know I personally can’t wait to join our once in a generation eclipse groups in Argentina in December, now I’ve had time to watch the BBC’s Race Across The World – definitely worth a watch if you can access it and are looking for inspiration.

Whilst our skeleton global team has been rebooking thousands of trips that were due to depart before August, we have continued developing a new reservation system, a project we started in 2019. When we get back to discovering, we will be ready with a new booking & accounting system, an improved customer profile manager, a more functional website and a new global phone system. You will soon be able to talk to us whenever it suits you, not us, as we will always have one of our offices open to answer your enquiry day and night, wherever you are.

Speaking of our adventures, we are reviewing all of our tours and destinations, with a focus on finding ways to make travelling with us even safer in this new world. I can tell you that our groups will be smaller, there will be more empty seats on transport, hotels will be cleaner and we will be increasingly vigilant in ensuring that the tours we take you on beat all your expectations. We will offer private departures on all our group tours and continue to expand our independent and Tailor-made offerings so you can travel with people you already know. At the same time, I have been re-reading all our customer feedback from our Signature tours over the past 3 years, and can promise you that I have taken all of your comments on board, you are helping to shape the On The Go Tours of the future!

The world may have changed but we are pretty sure that as an On The Go traveller you will still want to travel safely with likeminded people, and with a company who genuinely cares about people, and about delivering authentic travel experiences in relative comfort. When we get going again, this ethos will be even more central to what we do to support local communities, business owners and people in our destinations, as we recover and rebuild with them.

In the meantime, thank you again on behalf of the whole team at On The Go Tours for firstly booking with us and secondly for continuing to dream of travels afar – it’s what keeps us going. I’ll come back to you shortly with an update on our schedule for 2020-2021 and with more details on new processes on the ground. We will also be offering more flexibility around deposits and cancellations for new bookings. In the meantime, just know that we are still here and eagerly waiting for the day when we can welcome you to airport arrivals halls around the world, with our famous blue paddles waving at you in welcome!

Until we can travel again, and we will, stay safe, stay well and let’s look after each other.
