Discover the ancient city of Cusco before embarking on an exciting 4 day hiking adventure through breathtaking mountain scenery and deep into the heart of the Andes before exploring the mystical 'lost city' of Machu Picchu. The Lares Trek will take you through rugged, untouched mountain scenery, help you experience local Peruvian lifestyles as well as summoning your resolve and determination.
Welcome to Peru and to the beautiful city of Cusco, the ancient capital of the Inca empire. After arriving at the airport, you'll be met and transferred to your hotel in the heart of the city. The rest of the day is at leisure to discover the fascinating history of Cusco, from colonial churches to incredible Inca ruins, it's easy to navigate by foot.
Please note: You may wish to arrive a day or two earlier in order to adjust to the altitude. Pre tour accommodation can be booked upon request.
Today offers free time to further explore Cusco and the surrounding area. A number of optional activities will be on offer, including a day trip to the Rainbow Mountains, a classic Peruvian cooking class or a trip to Moray, often refered to as the 'Inca agricultural greenhouse'.

Day 3 is the start of our trek and after a hearty breakfast we set off to Calca in the Sacred Valley. We'll begin with a uphill climb, taking us up to 4,265 metres above sea level, where we'll be greeted by a stunning view across two mountains, Pitusiray and Sawasiray. Descending down to 3,207 metres, our next stop is the small colonial town of Lares, after which this incredible trek is named. In Lares we'll enjoy the scenery surrounding the town as we stop for lunch. Our afternoon trek will take us to Huacawasi, a small town full of vibrant colours and llamas wandering around.
On day 4 an early start sees us start with an ascent to Aruraycocha (4,500m), with beautiful views over the Aruraycocha lake and the rugged landscape in the distance. We'll then make our way down to the lakes edge, watching the vegetation change as we go. Our hike continues to the conservation area of Mantanay where we'll stop at Yuraccocha lake for lunch. Keep your eyes peeled here as we might be lucky enough to spot the mighty Andean Condor flying overhead, one of the largest bird species in the world. Our final hike of the day takes us to the village of Mantanay where we'll overnight.

The final day of the Lares Trek awaits today as we set off towards Yanahuara (2,950m). As we reach this beautiful town, we'll notice the temperature change and the climate begin to warm up. This area is important for it's white grain corn production, used by many as a staple of the local diet. We'll enjoy our final meal with our trekking crew before we continue our adventure by road. Arriving into Ollantaytambo, you'll notice the incredible Inca ruins that make this town so special before we board our train to Aguas Calientes. Arriving into Aguas Calientes we'll settle in to our hotel for the night in anticipation of our visit to the breathtaking Inca ruins of Machu Picchu.

An early start this morning as we take a short bus journey to the gates of the magical Machu Picchu. We'll watch as the sun rises over this incredible 'lost city' before we explore the history, myths and archaeology of this mesmerising place. After a guided tour you'll have free time to further explore at your own pace.
After an incredible morning at Machu Picchu we return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo. The train will wind through stunning mountain scenery as you relax in the bright open carriage of the Expedition train. Disembarking the train in Ollantaytambo we'll return to Cusco where the rest of the evening is at leisure.

Our week of excitement and determination has come to and end. An airport transfer will be provided to take you to Cusco airport for your onward flight.
