Start the day with an orientation tour of the city - we travel past Nevsky Prospect, a wide avenue in the centre of the city, lined with historical buildings, shops and museums. View the vast Palace Square, dominated by the magnificent Winter Palace and the site of many historic events. Continue down University Embankment, a long stretch alongside the Great Neva River lined with impressive buildings, and pass the monumental Admiralty building, the headquarters of the Russian Navy. Nearby view the Bronze Horseman, an impressive monument mounted on a large rock dedicated to the founder of the city, Alexander the Great.
