Today, we dive into the rich and complex history of Johannesburg, beginning in the heart of Soweto, where the rhythm of the township tells stories of resilience and transformation. As we walk its streets, we’ll uncover the past through powerful landmarks and personal stories, gaining a deeper understanding of its significance.
Our journey continues with a visit to either the Apartheid Museum, where immersive exhibits bring history to life, or Nelson Mandela’s House, a space filled with the echoes of his legacy (depending on availability).
As the sun sets, we shift from reflection to celebration, stepping into the city’s vibrant nightlife, where music, laughter, and good company create the perfect atmosphere to toast to an unforgettable day.
Johannesburg - Dullstroom - Graskop. We’ll set off early on our journey towards Kruger National Park, travelling along the breathtaking Panorama Route, where dramatic cliffs, cascading waterfalls, and sweeping views create some of Africa’s most spectacular landscapes.
Along the way, we’ll stop in the charming town of Dullstroom for breakfast, a perfect chance to savour a warm meal and take in the crisp morning air before continuing our adventure.
As the scenery shifts from misty highlands to the wild terrain of the Lowveld, anticipation builds for the incredible wildlife encounters ahead. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at our accommodation, ready to immerse ourselves in the magic of the African bush.
Graskop - Kruger National Park. We’re setting off towards the legendary Kruger National Park, eager for our first glimpse of Africa’s iconic wildlife as we journey through the vast, untamed landscapes. With every kilometre, the anticipation builds, today may bring sightings of elephants lumbering through the bush, a pride of lions basking in the afternoon sun, or perhaps a lone leopard stealthily weaving through the trees. We may also catch sight of graceful impalas, kudu, or springbok darting across the savannah.
As the sun sets, we’ll settle into our pre-erected campsite, where the scent of a slow-cooked potjiekos fills the air. This hearty South African dish, traditionally prepared over an open fire in a cast-iron pot, will be the perfect way to end our first evening in the wild, sharing stories beneath a starlit sky, surrounded by the distant calls of the African night.
Today, we set off on an open vehicle game drive through Kruger National Park, keeping an eye out for the Big Five: elephants, rhinos, buffaloes, lions, and leopards. Our expert guides will provide insight into the animals and their natural behaviours, making sure we get the best experience of the park.
In the evening, we’ll gather around for a traditional South African braai, a BBQ cooked over an open fire, where we’ll enjoy delicious grilled meats and local delicacies. As we share the meal, our guide will tell us about the cultural significance of the braai, and we’ll spend the night under the vast African sky, surrounded by the sounds of the bush.
Kruger National Park - Hlane Royal National Park (Eswatini). This morning, we’ll cross into Eswatini, a small yet captivating country known for its rich culture and wildlife. We’ll head towards Hlane Royal National Park, where we’ll experience the diverse beauty of the African landscape. As the day winds down, we’ll set out on a sunset game drive through the park’s expansive grasslands, keeping our eyes peeled for the local wildlife.
If we're lucky, we'll be treated to a unique performance by the park rangers, who will showcase the traditional Swazi singing, offering a glimpse into the heart of Eswatini's vibrant cultural heritage. It promises to be a truly unforgettable evening.
Hlane Royal National Park (Eswatini) - Zululand. As we re-enter South Africa, we’ll begin our journey south towards the Pongolapoort Nature Reserve, passing through stunning landscapes that will leave us in awe at every turn. Along the way, we’ll stop at a local village, where we’ll immerse ourselves in the traditions and way of life that have been passed down through generations, before making our way to Zululand.
As night falls, we’ll gather around the campfire, sharing stories of the day’s adventures under the vast, starry sky. The evening will end with a hearty Zulu meal, savoured together.
Zululand - Blythedale. Today, we head to a local Zulu village before making our way to the coast, where we will check into our beach lodge. After settling in, you have the option to either relax on the beach or unwind by the pool, depending on what you feel like. In the evening, we come together to enjoy a traditional South African dish called Bunny Chow, a loaf of bread filled with aromatic curry. It’s a local favourite you won’t want to miss.
Blythedale - Cape Town. This morning, we’ll head out early to catch a short flight to Cape Town, a stunning city famed for its world-class beaches, impressive architecture, lively nightlife, and much more. The excitement of the city will greet you as soon as we land.
