Day 1


Saturday. Welcome to Hanoi! On arrival at the airport your family will be transferred to our hotel. Enjoy the rest of the day exploring as you please - perhaps go for a stroll around the beautiful Hoan Kiem Lake and cross the red bridge to Jade Island. The lake comes alive at weekends when the surrounding roads close and the streets are filled with entertainment and food stalls.

Day 2

Junk Boat cruising in Halong Bay

Hanoi - Halong Bay. Today we drive to the picturesque UNESCO-listed Halong Bay. Board a traditional Vietnamese Junk Boat, equipped with comfortable modern luxuries. The bay is dotted with more than 2,000 rugged limestone islets and you’ll marvel at the spectacular surroundings as we sail. We stop to explore the stalactites and stalagmites inside the fascinating Trinh Nu Cave and there's also the opportunity to go kayaking and enjoy a swim before returning to our boat. This evening there's a Vietnamese cooking demonstration and a seafood feast, before we settle down to sleep onboard.

Day 3

Rickshaw tour of Hanoi

Halong Bay - Hanoi - Hue. Enjoy an optional Tai Chi class on deck or a traditional massage this morning. Before heading back to port we explore the beautiful Sung Sot cave (Surprise Grotto), which is 10,000m² and consists of two major chambers which are spectacular and spacious enough to hold thousands of people.

Later, we return to Hanoi and explore Vietnam’s capital on rickshaws. We ride through the maze of streets and see highlights of the city including the Opera House and Ly Thai To Park. The park is dedicated to Emperor Ly Thai To, who founded what would become Hanoi in the year 1010. We’ll then walk through the famous “36 Streets” of the Old Quarter, before boarding the overnight ‘Reunification Express’ train to Hue this evening. Alternatively, the option to fly to Hue is available.

Day 4

Imperial Hue

On arrival in UNESCO-listed Hue we’ll enjoy a guided tour of this imperial city. See the iconic 7-story Thien Mu Pagoda, home to the oldest monastery in the city. Visit the Imperial Purple Palace in the old walled Citadel, which was heavily bombed during the Vietnam War. We also explore the Royal Tombs of Emperor’s Tu Duc and Khai Dinh - both tombs were constructed whilst their respective Emperors still ruled. This evening there is an optional long boat cruise along the Perfume River. Relax and take in your peaceful surroundings as the sun sets around you.

Day 5

Hai Van Pass to Hoi An

Hue - Road of the Ocean Clouds - Hoi An. Today we travel to Hoi An, reached by driving along the beautiful Hai Van Pass coast road - nicknamed the Road of the Ocean Clouds. Stop at My Khe Beach, which famously starred in the movie “Apocalypse Now”. Enjoy a swim here before we continue to Hoi An for a guided tour of the city’s highlights. Explore the picturesque Old Town, the Chua Ong Pagoda and the Chinese Assembly Hall. We also visit the iconic 400-year-old Japanese Bridge.

Day 6

Tra Que village farming experience

Today we take a bicycle ride into the countryside and visit Tra Que village. Enjoy a hands-on day for all the family as we tend to the fields and learn how to prepare traditional Vietnamese cuisine. Enjoy your delicious creations in the pretty rural surroundings before we return to Hoi An.

Day 7

Free time in Hoi An

Today is free to explore Hoi An at leisure. Head to the beach and relax or enjoy some shopping in the bustling city. Alternatively, you may opt to visit the holy Cham site of My Son. The main temple was destroyed during the Vietnam War but much of the site remains intact and is still very impressive. There is also the option to see the site of the infamous My Lai Massacre and the memorial to the innocent victims.

Day 8

Hoi An

Saturday. Our Vietnamese adventure comes to an end today with an included departure transfer to the airport.

This ambient, boutique hotel combines traditional appeal with modern pleasures. Rooms are furnished in a contemporary fashion with an array of amenities for added comfort. Its restaurant provides a great variety of Vietnamese cuisine and you are welcome to enjoy cocktails and live music in the Jazz Bar or relax in the hotel's health spa.

Sleeper train - 4 berth cabin, Hanoi

Cabins on board are comfortable though not comparable to European standards. Aboard each wagon are 9 compartments that comprise of 4 bunks per compartment shared by mixed sexes. A western-style toilet (with a varying degree of cleanliness) is located at either end of the wagon. Air-conditioning (not always operational in the summer) and lighting are controlled from inside the cabin, which is also lockable. Luggage can be stored in a compartment under the bottom bunk. Linen and a pillow are provided.

Bhaya Classic I Junk Boat, Halong Bay

This premier cruise boat offers 18 well appointed cabins with en suite amenities. Cabins are contemporary in design, whilst the finer touches have a distinct oriental influence. All cabins feature large windows creating a bright and airy atmosphere as well as scenic views. Facilities and services onboard include a dining room and bar, a sunbathing area on-deck, masseur and small library.

Syrena Junk Boat, Halong Bay

A tradition hand crafted boat, the Syrena Junk Boat offers superb en suite air conditioned cabins with comfortable interiors and balconies. The on board Lotus Restaurant serves up a delicious array of Vietnamese and International cuisine. Complimentary Wi-Fi is available in the public areas. Swimming, kayaking and tai chi are all offered on board and movie nights are also very popular.
