The average age on this tour is around 21 - 35, and we are unfortunately unable to take any travellers over the age of 49. We have lots of group tours across our destinations that are suitable for travellers of all ages, browse our website or get in touch to find the perfect trip!
Today we take a guided tour of the historic centre of Mexico City. As we stroll through the lively streets, we'll discover the history of the Aztec Empire and the Spanish Conquest, and visit landmarks such as the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Zocalo. The afternoon is free for you to explore on your own; you might choose to visit a museum or enjoy a mariachi performance. In the evening, we'll recharge with a traditional Mexican dinner and show!
Mexico City - Puebla - Oaxaca. We bid farewell to the Mexican capital and head to Puebla, flanked by four of the country's imposing volcanoes. This beautiful colonial town is famously known as the birthplace of Cinco de Mayo. After exploring the area, we'll enjoy lunch before travelling to Oaxaca. Upon arrival, we'll settle into our accommodation and then venture out to enjoy the vibrant nightlife, visiting local bars and restaurants under the moonlight. If you haven't sampled any Mexican cuisine yet, then memelas, mole and empanadas must be on the menu tonight.
To begin our day, we will continue exploring the streets of Oaxaca, visiting traditional markets and local cathedrals. You can enjoy a free evening to head out for a few drinks this evening, or to take in anything you may have missed.
Oaxaca - Tehuantepec. Start your day with a relaxed morning, with time to explore the town further or shop for unique local souvenirs. Later, we’ll venture into a nearby valley to visit a local family and discover the intricate process behind hand-crafted textiles. We also visit a traditional mezcal distillery, where we’ll learn about this iconic spirit and enjoy a tasting or two. As the day winds down, we’ll travel onwards to Tehuantepec for an overnight stay.
Tehuantepec - San Cristobal de las Casas. Today, we'll embark on a boat journey to explore the Canyon of Sumidero, where we'll encounter cascading waterfalls, jungle landscapes, and hopefully catch glimpses of monkeys and lurking crocodiles. Later, we'll ascend into the mountains to our next destination, the charming colonial town of San Cristobal de las Casas. Here, we'll enjoy a short walking tour, followed by a tasting of Pox, a traditional drink from the Chiapas region. We'll then head out for dinner in town.
San Cristobal de las Casas - Zinacantan - San Juan Chamula - San Cristobal de las Casas. This morning, we will visit a local family in the picturesque town of Zinacantan. Following this, we'll proceed to San Juan Chamula to explore and visit its unique church, before returning to San Cristobal de las Casas. You will have free time to explore the city's cobblestone streets, browse local markets, admire beautiful churches, and enjoy a glass of Chiapas coffee, arguably the smoothest in the world.
San Cristobal de las Casas - Cancun. Today, we're departing San Cristobal and heading to the airport for our included flight to Cancun, on the Yucatan Peninsula. On arrival, the evening is free for you to head out and explore.
Cancun - Isla Holbox. This morning, we're taking a ferry to Isla Holbox, a paradise tropical island north of the Yucatan. Picture sunny beaches, crystal-clear waters, vibrant marine life, and relaxed villages. On arrival at our accommodation, take some time to settle in before heading out to explore - relax on the white sand and maybe watch the sunset with a crisp beer.
Today, we’re heading out on a boat tour of Isla Holbox. We're on the lookout for pink flamingos, so keep your eyes peeled and cameras ready. We'll also take in several remote hidden island spots and explore a local cenote. In the afternoon, you can relax in a hammock and maybe catch up on that book you’ve been wanting to read. This evening, we'll enjoy a BBQ dinner on the beach.
Isla Holbox - Playa del Carmen. Today, our journey leads us back to the Yucatan. We will settle into our final hotel in Playa del Carmen, and you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the famous beaches, bars, and tacos this popular beach destination offers.
Playa del Carmen - Chichen Itza - Playa del Carmen. Today, we're heading to explore Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Led by a local guide, we'll delve into the fascinating myths and stunning sights of these ancient ruins, including the iconic Temple of Kukulkan (also known as 'El Castillo'), the eerie Platform of the Skulls, and the expansive Plaza of a Thousand Columns. Following this, prepare to swim in the crystal-clear waters of a remarkable cenote, a natural limestone swimming hole that plunges into the depths.
Playa del Carmen - Tulum - Playa del Carmen. This morning, we’re setting off to explore Tulum, one of Mexico's most popular destinations. You can visit the fascinating archaeological site of the Tulum Ruins and enjoy the pristine waters of Tulum Beach, what a day! After exploring and relaxing, we return to Playa del Carmen for a final group dinner and drinks. We'll savour some local food, perhaps enjoy a tequila shot or two, and have a great time with our new friends.
Our tour comes to an end today. You can depart this morning, making your own way to the airport or your next destination. Although there is no departure transfer included, your tour leader will be available to help you plan your onward travel and is on hand to assist you. Safe travels!
