Begin today with a unique bicycle tour through Bang Kachao, often referred to as Bangkok's "Green Lung." This unexpected urban oasis will amaze you with its verdant gardens, elevated pathways, and traditional wooden homes. As we explore, we'll encounter a Burmese temple, local farms, a Muay Thai gym, and other hidden treasures, offering more than just a bike ride. After enjoying a local lunch, we'll glide along the Chao Phraya River in a traditional long-tail boat, observing the dynamic city life along its banks. As the day winds down, we'll visit two breathtaking temples: Wat Arun, known for its intricate porcelain decorations, and Wat Saket, where we ascend the Golden Mount to witness a stunning sunset over the city skyline.
Today, enjoy an immersive cooking class in Khlong Toei, a vibrant and culturally rich neighbourhood in Bangkok. Begin with a guided tour of the bustling local market, where we'll experience an array of sights, sounds, and aromas. Discover exotic Thai ingredients and select fresh produce for your cooking session. This class has garnered praise from celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who has personally visited and endorsed the experience. With the help of local cooks, you'll prepare authentic Thai dishes, gaining both culinary skills and insight into daily life in Khlongtoey, while also supporting community initiatives. You'll leave with both a satisfied appetite and a greater appreciation for the local culture.
Bangkok - Chiang Mai. This morning, enjoy an included visit to Wat Pho, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha - one of the most iconic temples in Bangkok. We'll travel there by boat along the river, enjoying views of the city from the water. After touring the temple, you have free time in the early afternoon to discover more of Bangkok on your own. Later in the afternoon, we make our way to the train station to catch the overnight train to Chiang Mai. This quintessential Thai travel experience allows you to observe the city lights as they disappear, while you settle into your berth. Enjoy conversations with fellow travellers, play cards, or simply watch the changing landscape as we head north. Remember to stock up on snacks and water before you board the train!
Please note: Some members of the group will be leaving the tour in Bangkok, and not continuing to Chiang Mai.
The train pulls into Chiang Mai in the morning, and we disembark and transfer to our accommodation, where there is time to freshen up and relax after our overnight journey. In the afternoon, join a walking tour of the old city, wandering through its narrow lanes and exploring ancient temples. We'll visit the impressive Wat Chedi Luang, where you can learn about its intriguing history. Conclude the day with a unique "Monk Chat" session at Chiang Mai University, offering a rare chance to speak with Buddhist monks and gain insights into their way of life.
Today is free for you to leisurely explore Chiang Mai or simply unwind. You might choose to visit the tranquil Doi Suthep Temple, which is situated on a mountain and offers breathtaking views of the city, or explore the unique Art in Paradise Museum. For those feeling energetic, there's the option of taking a Muay Thai boxing class. In the evening, join our guide for a specially organised food tour that introduces you to "Lanna" or Northern Thai cuisine. This tour will lead us through local eateries, giving you the chance to taste regional dishes and delicacies, ending with a mouthwatering dinner at a local restaurant.
Prepare for an unforgettable experience at Chang Chill, an ethical Elephant Care Project. Chang Chill stands out with its unique, hands-off approach that allows us to observe elephants in a natural, cruelty-free setting. We begin with a guided forest walk, watching as the elephants graze and interact in their natural habitat. Throughout the walk, you'll learn about elephant behaviour and conservation efforts. Afterward, enjoy refreshments near a mud pit where the elephants love to bathe, and assist in preparing feeding tubes filled with treats. The day concludes with a transfer to a local village for an overnight stay, providing an authentic glimpse into rural Thai life.
Chiang Mai - Doi Inthanon National Park. Put on your walking shoes and get ready for an adventure in the verdant hills of Northern Thailand. Discover Doi Inthanon National Park, home to Thailand’s highest peak, renowned for its rich forests and breathtaking scenery. Visit the King and Queen Pagodas, dedicated to King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit, and take in the panoramic views and beautifully designed gardens. Hike to Wachirathan Waterfall and savour a jungle-inspired lunch. In the evening, learn to cook traditional Thai dishes with our guide, followed by a jungle dinner and a campfire experience. Spend the night at a local homestay, fully engaging in the traditional lifestyle.
Doi Inthanon National Park - Chiang Mai. Start your day with the soothing sounds of the jungle and tuck into a traditional breakfast with our host family. Then, continue with our trek to the Karen village of Bann Pang Khao Laam, where you can experience the local culture and lifestyle.
