Important InfoInfo
So many artists over the years have made the French Riviera their home, drawn by the azure-blue sea, vibrant colors and fabled clear light for which the region is so famous. No surprise then that the cosmopolitan city of Nice boasts museums-a-plenty, with artwork from different eras lurking ‘round every corner.

After pickup from your central Nice hotel, head straight to the leafy Cimiez neighborhood with your guide for your first Nice museum visit of the day -- the Chagall Museum. Dedicated to the lifeworks of Mark Chagall, a revolutionary artist influenced by the movements of Expressionism, Cubism and more, the museum’s main draw is his collection of famous biblical paintings, which you’ll see while exploring with your audio guide.

The Matisse Museum is nearby on Cimiez Hill, and this is the next museum on your day’s list. The museum is housed in a distinctive red Genoese villa that dates back to the 17th century, with architecture that is arguably every bit as fascinating as the artwork housed within. Step inside and let the bright colors that exemplified Henri Matisse’s artwork inspire your own creative thinking as you wander around and explore independently.

After discovering these extraordinary museums, hop back on board your luxury minivan for a scenic coastal drive to the peninsula town of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat.

Built on the narrowest part of the peninsula is the lavish Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, surrounded by approximately 17 acres (7 hectares) of gorgeous gardens. The apartments that comprise this stunning Italian-style palace are a delight to explore, and you’ll do just that on a comprehensive tour of the grounds. Admire the apartments of Madame Ephrussi with their ornate furnishings, before strolling through the gardens.

Our guide/driver, Fred, was great. Lots of historical facts and insights during the drive. A comfortable van. The right amount of time at each of the venues.

Fantastic guide who went out of her way to make it an exceptional experience. Matisse Museum included many flights of stairs and not recommended for those with walking impairments.

This tour was awesome. The Chagall Museum and Matisse Museum were very interesting. Smaller collections, but prolific nonetheless. What made this trip was a our tour guide Greg and b the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. Our driver was so nice, great driver and gave us all sorts of information as we were driving. He showed us some beautiful spots for photo ops and even helped us decide on additional tours. The Villa and gardens were breathtaking. Although the heat/humidity was insane that day, I really enjoyed this tour. I highly recommend it!

Everything we hoped and more and that guide made it an even more special experience

A bit pricey but worth it.

Wonderful trip, made all the better by our guide Camille. She was excellent. The Villa and Gardens were the highlights for us. The Villa was beautiful, but the garden and views are breathtaking. Although we do not appreciate so much modern art we did think that for fans of Chagall and Matisse the museums were extremely well laid out. Again a big thank you to Camille for such a wonderful trip.

The guide was excellent. The Matisse collection is small but rather significant. Nice is lovely and it would have been better to spend more than 2 night there.

I was the only person on this tour and the drive is worth it alone even without the museums this is Paul Allen's house, this is Elton John's house, etc. There's plenty of time in each place and it does not feel rushed. I felt underwhelmed by the Villa. It's in a magnificent setting, but I've seen private homes, castles, etc. that have wowed me a lot more.

An excellent tour, both fun and interesting. Lucy our guide was knowledgable and friendly she is an excellent driver. I took my elderly father on the trip and he loved it. When I visit him again in I shall definitely book another tour. The air conditioned minibus was very clean and comfortable. The whole experience felt like the most incredible treat.

This tour was amazing!

We enjoyed our tour, although the main point of the tour was to transport us between destinations with some general commentary on the way. We were on our own in the museums. All three museums had excellent English audio tours part of our ticket tour price. Our only real disappointment that time at each place was so limited. We heeded others' comments, and concentrated our time in the Ephrussi gardens instead of the house. Enjoyed our tour guide. We were really lucky as we were the only 2 people on the tour!

A must. Need more time at Cgagall and Rothschild.

It was most enjoyable- our guide was excellent especially in getting us right to the front entrance of the Villa de Rothschild when there would otherwise been a stiff gradient to climb(especially for two oldies!). Our main comment though would be that the Villa definitely requires at least another half hour. We have travelled widely, seen many "great houses" and this definitely surpasses them, the house and contents were so interesting there was unfortunately no time for the wonderful gardens.

Great tour! Sarah was friendly and knowledgeable and with each museum gave us just the right amount of time. We never felt rushed. Sarah was well versed with art history and was a grest driver. Very helpful with recommendations and understanding the locals. It was a wonderful afternoon!

Excellent tour of three sites that we could not have managed to get to in one afternoon by ourselves. Very helpful driver who really knew her way around Nice. Villa Ephrussi quite marvellous.

We had a terriic afternoon on this excursion. Our guide Vasili was wonderful. He was kind to my elderly mother, explained things clearly, and made the day enjoyable. The Matisse Museum was nice, but the Chagall was really spectacular. And the Villa Ephrussi felt like a trip back in time. It was amazing.

the day trip was fantastic. The tour guide was very nice, friendly and very informative. it was such a great memorable day. But i must say i was disappointing with Matisse Museum. there was not enough of his painting but a lot of fast portrait drawings and his gouache cut outs. But i'm glad that i have been and see it.

Morgan, my tour guide is a gem. She is friendly, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Not only were the destinations beyond my expectations, every moment was packed with information about this beautiful city. I had plenty of time to enjoy the Museums and the Villa.

Our guide met us at our hotel on time. She was quite knowledgeable about the area, giving us some history of Nice during the drive to our destinations. At the end of the afternoon, she gave us a recommendation for a French Bistro in Nice, which turned out to be outstanding. The tour itself of the Chagall and Matisse Museums met all expectations, although I would have liked more time at the Chagall Museum. I felt a little rushed to stay on schedule for the trip to the Villa Ephrussi. The gardens there were spectacular, and I enjoyed them more than the gardens at Versailles. All in all, we spent a lovely afternoon.

Tour was good except there was not enough time at each of the stops, especially at the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. Needed at least another half hour at the Villa de Rothschild to see the magnificent gardedns.
• Submitted 10 Oct 2019
The Chagall Museum was interesting as it displayed some of his largest works. The Villa Ephrussi was absolutely stunning. Besides the villa and gardens, the views were wonderful. The one disappointment was that the Matisse Museum was closed, and this should have been pre-determined before we started the tour. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, a wonderful experience.

We had a excellent tour guide. She was easy to understand and very knowledgeable. At the end of the tour, she asked our opinions, and she made our unanimous opinions part of her plan to improve the time future visitors would spend at each venue. We ALL loved the Chagall Museum the best and feel that spending way too much time at the Villa Rothschild was the biggest needed change. We also felt the Matisse Museum was not great, as it was so small. Apparently, most o the actual Matisse paintings are around the world in bigger museums.

Matisse Museum was somewhat disappointing. Chagall and Villa Ephrussi were both spectacular. Our guide was very friendly and a good driver. However, the content provided by our guide was somewhat thin--we might have enjoyed more information along the way.

The Chagall museum was interesting. The Matisse museum did not have a large collection. The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is well worth a visit. The tour guide was very good and drove us through the beautiful coast. Highly recommend this tour.
