See what all the hype is about and learn about this cultural phenomena where 2 well-built, powerful and sturdy men wrestle for a period of time and the winner is announced when his opponent is thrown out of the ring. Get memorable pictures with the Sumo's or even opt to try to wrestle one!
This optional Sumo Experience is offered on the morning of day 4 on our Japan Explorer and Epic Japan Adventure tours
This add-on is subject to availability and must be booked in advance of travel. This add-on must be booked no later than 3 weeks prior to departure
Please note transfers are not included in the activity. Directions will be provided by your tour leader
Please ensure you have adequate travel insurance for all chosen activities during your holiday
This experience is usually offered with a start time of approximately 8am and you may miss part of the Edo Tokyo museum (excludes lunch)
NOTE: During tournament season, this experience is not available in the morning and an alternate time is offered later in the day which includes lunch (you may miss part of Edo Tokyo Museum, but should have the required time at the Samurai Museum). The Sumo Experience with lunch is higher in price, please enquire with your reservations consultant for further details
Experience runs for approximately 1.5 hours and maybe available morning (without lunch as priced here) or midday (with lunch experience – please enquire for prices). The length of the experience depends on the day and conditions for the sumo wrestlers as well as if it’s tournament season
Explanation about the fundamental actions and an introduction to some sumo techniques
3 real matches! You can also attempt a wrestle with one of the Sumo wrestlers (a prepared costume is available for your experience)

This experience maybe offered with or without lunch. If it is tournament season and includes lunch (at an additional cost), you will have the opportunity to observe what and how much the wrestlers eat and will eat as they do. If you participate in this experience, you may not have time to go to the Samurai Museum/ Edo Tokyo museum, dependent on how you opt to travel to/from the venue and how long the sumo experience takes and, if it is offered morning or midday.
