I highly recommend this experience. This excursion made the trip for me and my friends to Mexico City. The hike can be challenging due to elevation but the scenery is totally worth it. also, the woman at the bottom of Iztaccihuatl makes the best quesadillas and coffee. My guide was Andres and he was AMAZING. He made sure everyone was doing okay on the hike. I would gladly do this tour again when I go back to Mexico City.

The driver and tour guide were very personable! They made good timing and they offered a great food advice.

Great trip for young people! The hike will be a lot easier with boots, hiking poles, and pants! Need to be moderately fit to get all the way up!

I read some negative reviews before my hike but in the end my experience was pretty positive. I think it all depends on who your guide is. We had our hike with Gerson and he was really nice and he managed everything well. I'm a mediocre hiker and I would say this is a low to intermediate level hike if you're a regular hiker. However the elevation can possibly add some more difficulty. Our group had 7 people in total, 2 gave up after the first 30 minutesnot too far from the trail head, and the other 5 made to the 3rd gateabout 4400m, just below the snow line. It's cold and windy up there in the mountain so be well prepared.

Challenging hike up if not reasonably fit- but rewarded with great view of the volcano when you reach the top. All arrangements for pick up and transportation were easy and comfortable. Interesting lunch stop at a roadside stand on our return. Would recommend.

Awesome tour and tour guide! I do recommend that you train some what before taking this tour. I'm some what athletic and this climb was doable but tough. But it was worth it in the end!

Every thing was good. Amazing views, good service from local tour operator.

It was challenging, very challenging. It was also great. It was a real hike up the mountain and it was a lot fun. The guide allowed people to go at their own pace but also stopped a few times to let people catch up and make sure people caught their breath. Highly recommend to anyone able bodied.

The tour has been amazing, weather perfect, but our guide were too hurry, we expect to hike a little bit more high, our expectation was at least to 4500 m, but at the sign 3990 he wanted to go back. Pity....

Our tour guide Alex was great, the hike was super fun and the restaurant stop on the way home was delicious. Highly recommend.

This is a must do trip if you are visiting Mexico City. You will experience a challenge you are unlikely to have faced before and are likely to meet some great people along the way. The walk itself is not difficult in relation to the incline, but as with many of the other reviews, you will find the altitude difficult to adjust to. Dont let this put you off though. The guides will allow for everyones individual pace and they will support you to get to the top. The achievement is worth it! The food on the way back was also some of the best I had whilst in Mexico City! P.s buy water and energy snacks before you arrive at the meeting point.

Wow! The view from the summit of this mountain is incredible. Be prepared, there is very little oxygen, so unless you are acclimated to climbing you'll need to stop very frequently for breaks. I had to stop every 20 yards or so for breaks, but making the summit is worth the effort! I had a mild case of altitude sickness when I came back down, which was a first for me. Make sure that you are well hydrated before making this hike. The guides were more than helpful, and so friendly!

Amazing experience! Our guide Leonardo was friendly and very patient. It is hard to get to the top but it is really worth it. The minivan was really comfortable. Thank you!

Our tour guide, Sergio, was very inspirational and had a good sense of humor. He was very knowledgeable and was able to answer our questions. The hike was difficult, and getting back down was harder! But it was a super rewarding experience. I would definitely recommend this tour!

I'm not going to lie to you... this hike was not easy, but worth every second. The guide was aware of every member of his group and left no man behind. Wear shoes with grip, light jacket because it does get cold, bring a few snacks for energy, and WATER! I am definitely coming back to do it again

This was an amazing experience! There were only 6 people on my tour, and only four of us completed the hike. By having a small group we got great attention and felt like we could really experience the nature. The hike is gorgeous - it's not very long but the altitude makes it hard to breathe. The quesadillas after were amazing as well, even got to try some fresh rabbit! Only thing is there is no real breakfast stop so I would recommend that you eat before/bring your own breakfast, and that the tour not advertise that detail.

Beautiful view of Popocatepetl from hiking the La Joya route up Iztaccuhuatl. The driver was very skilled with the bumpy windy roads. Everyone in our van actually witnessed a car veer off the road and into a tree, so be careful if driving up the mountain side independent from a tour. Daniel was an excellent guide and really bonded the group together. This was apparent on the long drive because everyone would be laughing and talking as Daniel would provide conversational material.

Guide Kevin Driver Francisco Generally the Highways in MEX are very bumpy. The ride up the mountain is twisty Francisco handled the drive very well and safely. The ride in the National park going to the trailhead is even bumpier. The journey would not be good for those who suffer from motion and/or altitude sickness. The hike to the 1st scenic point was intermediate. We did stop multiple times because of the ascent and the altitude. Getting there was worth the hike. A couple of us stayed at the 1st scenic point whereas the guide and two others went to the next scenic point. The weather can change suddenly. Bring a jacket as it can get cold and windy. Coming down was so much easier but was slippery at certain places as it had rained the day before. The view was worth the hike up. Would suggest doing this on a weekday when it may be less busy and not full. I strongly recommend this trip. Excellent value and experience. Kevin was a good guide and led us safely up and down the trail. He also spoke very good English.

My experience was smooth and highly positive. The tour left before 7am from the meeting point at Hostal Amigo near Zocalo. I think we were a group of 15 in the bus.The guide and the driver were both very pleasant with the guide being fluent in english. He gave clear instructions and guidelines at every step. He accompanied us on the trail. Skipped the lunch on way back. We were back at Zocalo by 2.45pm. All in all, a very efficient trip.

Kevin, our tour guide was great! The hike itself is probably low-intermediate level, but what makes it so challenging is the high altitude. The views are stunning and the work is worth it!
• Submitted 26 Mar 2017
The views were amazing! Please note though that due to the elevation and steepness of the hike, those who are not in mediocre shape may have a hard time. It is a challenging but rewarding hike. The drive to the start of the hike was a bit okay, a lot bumpy but don't let this detract from the experience of the hike itself. If you aren't in the best shape, start exercising now so that you can enjoy the sights of this hike.

I had a great time on this tour! Gerson and our driver were wonderful - smooth trip, good advice, and a good pace for the group. As other reviews note: - the altitude is serious! Several members of my group stayed behind - the hike isn't terribly long I think we hiked for about 3 hours, but my group seemed to find it quite challenging and satisfying given the altitude and steepness. 3 hours felt like more than enough for most of us - yes, you stop at a grocery store for breakfast, not a restaurant. Buy food for the hiking portion, too - the lunch afterwards is great - traditional Mexican street food I'd definitely recommend this hike to others in fact, I've already done so!
