I went on this tour with my wife and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. We were picked up on time and dropped off on time. I can't remember the name of our tour guide/driver but he was awesome. You'll get a good lunch from a restaurant on your way. The van itself is spacious and comfortable. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to visit Hobbiton and the glowworm caves.

This was a full day tour and I learned a lot! Mike and Mat were our guides (normally there is only one, but one was new to the company). I must say it was such an amazing experience because of these guys. They were so friendly, I felt like not only was I on a private tour, but I felt like they were my long lost friends- so friendly! There was a group of friends that were on our bus but they slept most of the drive so my husband and I got to talk everything New Zealand with Mike and Matt. Along the way we stopped for a photo opp, in which they offered to take our pictures. The Hobbiton tour was so cool! The gardens are just beautiful and detail is insane! It is so quiet and peaceful and you may see some guinea fowl running around. The coolest thing is this is someone's property, and they still (after all the royalties) operate their farm full-time. The end of the tour you are offered a beer or alcohol-free cider from none other than the actual Green Dragon! Yes! You get to go inside, sit down, look around. So cool! Afterwards we headed to the Waitomo Glow Worm Caves! We found out October is when they are very active (apparently they have seasons). Bugs are being born and that is the feeding season. When we arrived, we had strict instructions (be quiet as it affects the worms, and no pictures). Several other passenger vans from our tour group pulled up (these were all friends of the group on our bus), man, were they rowdy! They were older than my husband and I! They pushed and shoved and were talking the whole time and I was SO annoyed. These caves are sacred to the Maori and I was so disgusted at how disrespectful they were. That aside, it is a cool experience to see! It's like tons of stars close to your head, and then to know it's worm that create the glowing strands is just cool. The tour itself where you see the flow glow worms is like maybe 10mins long, which I thought it would be at least 25mins. Wish it were longer. The last stop on the way back is like a tiny store that has ice cream and souvenirs. I was not impressed- reminded me of a gas station stop. I wish they would pick a different place.

Driver was prompt at pickup and very informative throughout drive. Hobbiton tour was fantastic- excellent local guide that didn't rush and had some insider knowledge about the screenings. Lunch stop was great! Waitomo was also an excellent tour though very busy during high season and therefore very scheduled. Wish we could have spent more time there. Quick stop at the end for great NZ ice cream. Overall fantastic day tour!

Our tour guide Tyler was excellent and knew exactly when to entertain our small group and when to just let everyone nap. After the disappointment that was Weta Workshop in Wellington, we had expected Hobbiton to be a tourist trap as well. It was actually really well put together and beautiful to walk around. Even my wife who is not a very big fan of Lord of the Rings loved it as well. The glowworm cave was good too and much better than the one in Te Anu.

This trip was a lot of fun surrounded by a lot of car time. We had a blast and Nick was a great tour guide. Only downfall was the long car rides between stops, but we knew that going in and made the best of it.

Really enjoyed the day, though as others have said, it was a lot of driving - over 5 hours. The Hobbiton movie set was well organized and fun, the flowers and details were amazing. And the Waitomo caves were stunning. The boat ride was quite short though, only maybe 10 minutes, but there were so many glowworms. Our guide/driver Nick was helpful and informative for the driving parts.

My friends and I absolutely loved this trip! Our tour guide, Mike, made it so much better. He had a lot of knowledge about New Zealand's history, Auckland, and the surrounding cities. The tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set is a must-see if you're a fan of Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, and the Waitomo Glowworm Caves is amazing to see for anyone! The lunch included was also great, we loved the food selection. We were in Auckland for only a few days, but this trip was worth taking out a whole day for. Thanks for the great time, Mike!

So enjoyed this tour. Hobbiton was a unique experience with stops to hear about its history and take pictures. Glowworm Cave was cool to see. Wonderful guide on our boat who is 6th generation. Loved the drive through the country side.

I enjoyed this day trip to Hobbiton and Glow work caves. I did receive a few emails prior to the day stating the prompt pick up times and not to be late. I get it, but one or 2 e-mails was fine. The day of pick up I was waiting 10 minutes prior to pick up and I received a message that they were running behind. I appreciated the text updates. I ended up waiting 15 minutes after stated pick up time. I know it was out of the control of the guide when other passengers are late. Please be on time, because those of us who actually pay attention to instructions are left waiting for you. Everything else after was smooth. Hobbiton was fun. We went through the set and ended at the Green Dragon. I felt like we had enough time to walk around and look at the gift shop. Glow worms was cool. Felt like it was a little short but something that is nice to see. Definitely recommend.

If you love the LOTR books and movies you will be thrilled to be walking among the beautiful countryside seen in the films and enthralled by the Hobbit hole homes! Great photo opportunities abound. Even if you are not a fan the trip is very much worth it! Our young tour guide was excellent and shared some interesting info about the making of the movies and about Peter Jackson as well. The Glowworm care experience is terrific as well. Our Maori guide was very knowledgeable and although you can't take any photos inside because its dark in the caves and light disturbs the glowworms, you will be amazed at what you see and learn. The short boat ride reveals the worms perfectly! Both tours are very worth the time and expense :)

This is a must-do when in NZ. We had an amazing tour guide named Mike who picked us up on time and was very entertaining and humourous throughout the trip. Incredibly personable and he took good care of us. The views in the Hobbiton Movie set was incredible. The glowworms were a sight to behold. This duration of the trip was just nice. Lunch was even provided with good food and dessert. Highly recommended to book through Viator.

Our tour driver David was excellent and kept us well informed and entertained throughout the drives. We unfortunately had pretty bad rain but they had umbrellas prepared and frankly there's not much you can do about the weather! Hobbiton was a really interesting experience for fans and non-fans alike. The glow worms at truly unique. Well worth our money!

Picked up on time and given detailed explanation of what to expect prior to each piece of the day tour. Hobbiton was amazing to see!!! Alex was amazing with helping out taking photos of my wife and I and making sure we had everything we needed throughout the day. I highly recommend this tour and if you can , request Alex, you will not regret it!!

Beautiful drive and two memorable tour events. The price for the tour is not much more than the cost of admission to the sites, and the commentary, VIP treatment, and no chance of getting lost was well worth the extra spent. Overall a great value for must see attractions.
