Pass By: Sihlquai, Sihlstrasse 41, 8005 Zürich, Switzerland

Start your day with a pickup from Sihlquai Bus Terminal in the center of town. Then, relax on your air-conditioned coach as you travel south to the handsome city of Lucerne, roughly an hour away.

Stop At: Luzern, 6003 Lucerne, Switzerland

Your route takes in stretches of gorgeous Swiss countryside, so look out the window to admire the Albis Pass mountain range and idyllic Lake of the Four Cantons.

On arrival in Lucerne, enjoy an introductory tour of the city by coach to get your bearings, seeing sights like Chapel Bridge and the Baroque Jesuit Church. Hear the history of these top Lucerne attractions and get insider tips for places to visit independently. Stop for a scenic photo stop en route either at Lake Lucerne or Lion Monument and then enjoy roughly six hours of free time to explore the city at your own pace.

Lucerne is famous for its cafe culture, so perhaps wile away an hour or so enjoying an indulgent Swiss lunch (own expense). A ticket for a Lake Lucerne sightseeing cruise is included with your tour, so head down to the lake at a time to suit you, and then relax on board your boat. Listen to entertaining audio commentary about the history of the city while gazing at the picturesque lakeside scenery, framed by Mount Pilatus.

Maybe take a stroll around the city’s pedestrianized Old Town, or visit one of Lucerne’s attractions like Richard Wagner Museum or the 14th-century Musegg Wall. All entrance fees are payable at your own expense.

Return to your coach and travel back to Zurich. Your day trip finishes with a drop-off at the start point at Sihlquai Bus Terminal.

Conrad was very explanatory and punctual as a tour guide. Highly recommended and plenty of time to tour the sites in Lucerne.

A wonderful trip which gave us ample time to explore the old city and interesting small shops in Lucerne. The lake cruise was also pleasant and we could do it in our own time. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided clear instructions on where we should meet etc. She really made the trip special.

I really enjoyed this day trip as such because we had more free time to explore Lucerne on our own. I like guided tours for the most part, but many times find that we don't spend enough time at some locations. This was a perfect way to get a feel and flavor of the city at our own pace and then meet the bus to go back to Zurich. The Lake Lucerne cruise was lovely although it was a bit overcast. I recommend this option for those who prefer to explore a city on their own.

enjoyed the boat cruise and day trip to lucerne.

Our day in Lucerne was great! The boat ride was informative and nice. The views and countryside going to Lucerne was spectacular.

Just a short motor coach ride away from Zurich, Lucerne is a MUST SEE while in Switzerland. So much history, the town has a village atmosphere, with many small shops, restaurants, and historic places. Go see the Lion of Lucerne monument, the Church of St Leodegar, and the covered wooden chapel bridge that crosses the Reuss River in the heart of Lucerne. Also, take a cruise on Lake Lucerne that lasts about an hour. All in all, a nice trip that only took about 6 hours from starting point in Zurich and back.

This is an excellent tour and Lucerne is a very beautiful old town not to be missed. The boat ride was amazing as well. The tour guide was very good. Highly recommended

It a very good tour, really enjoyed it and like the 6 hrs to roam around the town on our own.

Excellet trip. Free time in lucerne was ample to see the place in relaxed way. Cruise was excellent.

Awesomely beautiful city not to be missed. The ride through the countryside is a great start to the day. We enjoyed walking all over the city as it is very clean and quaint. Beautiful lake Lucern on the boat was a highlight of the day. Lovely places along the river to rest with a cold beverage and to have an excellent meal. We enjoyed the tour thoroughly.

Excellent tour.Very comfortable and scenic too.

This was no fault of Viator but the day we had scheduled the trip it was overcast and drissiling. Luckily the cruise was operating anyway, We didn't get to see much of the Alps as a result but the audio was interesting. The rest of the day was on our own and we had the time to leisurely walk around the city, which is beautiful. If you're looking for an independent excursion, you will like this one. The departure point is well marked to return back to your originating city and it's only an hour away from Zurich.

The overall trip was great with plenty of time in Lucerne to do what you wanted. The commentary on the cruise was interesting but I would have liked to boat to have got closer to the lakes edge on occasions to allow for better photography.

Tour was run by Best of Switzerland tours. They combined several tours that day, dropped us off for free time in Lucerne with vague directions and a voucher for the lake cruise. Would have loved the lake cruise more if weather had not been rainy and we had almost no visibility of the Alps. Lucerne is a charming, scenic destination, and we are glad to have visited. Tour guide was meh.

A very enjoyable trip, combined with 2 other groups going to the mountains. The guide continued with the group going to the mountains, so there was over 6 hours in Lucerne as an independent traveller. The trip on the lake was lovely, an hour well spent. I felt that the 6 hours were a bit too long, but the time was needed by the other groups to complete their tour. Overall, I enjoyed the trip.

food and beverage on board was terrible for the price we had to pay. Cruise itself was ok
• Submitted 01 Jun 2016
The tour operators were professional and punctual. Unfortunately the weather was not that cooperative. Overall barring the weather it was a great visit.

Lucerne is a lovely tourist city and we enjoyed walking through the city buying souvenirs and seeing the sights. The Lake Lucerne Cruise was scenic and relaxing. The guide could have given us more information about Lucerne on the way to and from Lucerne .If you are adventurous, I would encourage you to take a train from Zurich to Lucerne in stead of this trip. it is cheaper and you can stay as long as you want on your won schedule.

Nice day out but poor timekeeping. This trip may have made 4 stars but for the very lengthy wait almost 1.5 hours for the coach to collect us for the return from Lucerne. I appreciate that the company Best of Switzerland cannot be held responsible for heavy traffic conditions, but nonetheless annoying, especially when we had been instructed to be at the pick-up point early as they would not wait. Having said all that, we had a lovely day to ourselves in Lucerne, having been dropped off to our own devices whilst the tour bus and guide went on up to the mountains with the majority of the coach passengers. Lucerne is a beautiful city and we had no problem filling our time for a leisurely and relaxing afternoon, including the pleasant cruise on the lake. The guide, Miriam, was informative about Swiss history and culture on the drive to Lucerne, and in fairness to her was very apologetic about the delay when we were eventually collected I don't think our experience was a one-off as I notice another reviewer reports an issue with the delay in collection.

Enjoyed the trip going through quaint little towns and liked the free time we had in Lucerne. Was disappointed in the city tour. Expected more time going around seeing important sights. Really turned off by the stop at Henry's Clock Shop to"allow" us opportunity to make purchases.

Excellent Swiss guide, boat trip, some information about Lucerne. Too much free tine to explore on our own. Would have enjoyed city tour with more history and information about Zlucerne's past and present.

This tour was not worth the money and everything could have been done more efficiently a la carte. Tour leaves from Zurich HB at 0930 and takes 2 hours to make a 45 minute drive to Lucerne because the tour bus was doubled up with another tour going to a different destination. After a long drive of dropping off another tour, there was about 10 minutes of actual tour guide information and then we are dropped off at a gift shop in Lucerne and told to meet back near Lucerne train station at 5:50 pm. It would have been much better to just take train from Zurich to Lucerne (45 minutes), buy the boat excursion a la carte and then not have to worry about return time. The value-add for being on the tour was very minimal and quite the opposite, much better to do this adventure on your own. The bus was packed, the guide was pretty uninspiring, and the stress for timing was not worth the hassle. Please consider just unbundling and doing this itinerary on your own and you will enjoy the day much more!

First, there were too many people packed into a small van that made the ride uncomfortable. Second, though we nearly ran to catch our cruise which was difficult for us old folks, we still missed the boat without knowing what to do next since our guide had gone back to the van. Fortunately, we were told by the missed-boat, ticket vendor we could take another boat that was about to leave, if we ran. Finally, we made it and the cruise was scenic; but if preparing for the next summer Olympics is not an interest to you, I would consider an alternative tour.
