Our very informative guide (who grew up in this favela) led us through the many small maze like alleys, streets, and walkways as he held us captive with his story of growing up in this favela. His honesty and willingness to share his life was captivatin

I had so much fun! There was so much to see and do. Brazilian slums are the best slums in the world!!!

This was an amazing walking tour and the tour guide being outstanding, speaking fluent English and French. Having come from the this Favela himself he managed easily to give us an idea what live is like there. Interesting narrow pathways and beautiful views. I felt extremely safe. Highly recommend.

It was a great tour with a lot of details given about the life in a Favela. The guide took care of everybody and answered every question. I had the Impression that he was very honest and open with his remarks. The life in Rocinha is different from the life at Copacabana. It is worth to visit both.

I was very curious about Favela and Favela life and this tour was great. Alberto the guide is an intelligent person who knows the Favela like the back of his hand as he's lived there for most of his life. While I was somewhat nervous at first due to the stigma and stories about crime - Alberto demystified the Favela for what it is and made the experience enjoyable and educational. I was pretty honored that he invited me to see his home , go through the local market and see that people in the Favela are happy, enjoying life and life in the Favela is not "sad" - it's just different since the law and order is kept by the gangs rather than the police (who mainly take a bribe from the gang lords...). We did have a moment of scare during the tour where there were shots taken in the street - but literally - 2 minutes later , the street went back to order. No panic, no stress. I'll gladly recommend the tour of the Favela to anyone who's curious and interested in seeing what life in Rio is beyond the "usual" tourist attractions.

During our trip to Rio de Janeiro, we did several tours, and the Rocinha Favela Walking Tour was the best. Our tour guide, Carlos made everyone feel comfortable in what could have been an uncomfortable situation. Carlos is knowledgeable and gives you insight into what he calls "two Brazils." Don't miss this tour.

Such an amazing experience, Carlos our guide is from the favela and gave us such a good insight into the history and every day life of the favela, taking us down the narrow back alleys and seeing parts of it which you would never see/find with out his guidance. Thought of a walking tour through a favela night out people off as they may think it’s in safe and dangerous but please don’t let this put you off. The experience is absolutely amazing and not at any point did we feel unsafe. Carlos seemed to know everyone and really made this tour. His English and other 4 languages were superb and he really engaged with the group and was very entertaining. I would strongly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rio and it really does show the real side of the city.

As a foreign tourist, I was concerned visiting a Favela would be an unwelcome encroachment on the lives of people less well off. but Carlos is a Favela resident who wants people to come so they can understand something about the broader social structure that perpetuates Favelas and the vast wealth disparity in Rio. He keeps it light, but definitely has an important message. Well worth the time and money!

Our guide was very informative and never did we feel unsafe. The tour was quick paced and not enough time for pictures.

Great tour. Our guide lived in Favela and told many interesting stories. Tour recommended. Perfectly safe.

Our guide Carlos, gave us an excellent explanation of the favela. A social experience, highly recommended.

First of all Carlos and his "back of the line" helper do an excellent job making sure everyone in the group was safe. Not saying anything about the environment in the Favela, however, the rality of the lack of resources for those living there reminds me places I've visited in India. This a must see if one is really interested in knowing the reality of the comminity in Rio.

The guide was very kind and professional. Considering the safety of travelers, food and beverage recommendations were all excellent. I felt a genuine affection for his life in Pavela. It was the most meaningful tour in my life. I am deeply grateful to the guide who inspired me deeply.

This was an eye opening tour that exceeded our expectations. Alberto, was not only our guide but also a local resident who showed us the entire neighborhood from an insiders perspective. He was funny and professional and shared the history of the favelas in great detail. This tour was definitely money and time well spent in Rio. I highly recommend this tour.

This tour given by Carlos was amazing! Definitely one of the highlights of my trip. I am so glad I booked this because he really does an amazing job of giving you the truth behind the other side of Brazil.

This was incredibly eye opening, and a true cultural experience. Our guide, Carlos, was actually from Rocinha, so hearing his perspective very honest, it seemed, was amazing. If you have trouble with uneven surfaces, potentially consider not doing this. There is a lot of narrow path walking, with uneven stairs, through the interior apartments of the Favela. An unimaginably cool experience, but can be a little disorienting if you struggle with stairs. There were also a couple of snacks along the way for purchase pastels and drinks, so make sure you have small bills, so you can eat all of the delicious food.
