Stop At: Sacsayhuaman, Cusco 08000 Peru

Your Cusco archeology tour starts with pickup at your hotel in a comfortable coach. With your guide, head to Sacsayhuaman, perched on a hill on the northern outskirts of Cusco.

In addition to a wonderful view over Cusco, UNESCO World Heritage-listed Sacsayhuaman boasts massive stones – measuring up to 13 feet (4 meters) tall – placed tightly together, creating a fortress-like structure. As you walk around with your guide, learn about the site's history and defensive purpose. Marvel at the way the Incans built the site so soundly, and admire the different shapes and sizes of the stones, some of which have designs of the condor, puma and snake, symbols of the three Incan worlds.

Hop back on your coach and head to Qenqo (or Kenko), where you’ll see the ancient temple of Puma and its sacrificial altar, and then continue to Puca Pucara, a site of military ruins that was once used for defense of the Inca Empire. Next visit the archaeological site of Tambomachay, where a series of aqueducts, canals and waterfalls may have been a spa resort of wealthy Incans, followed by a stop at the Temple of the Sun (Korikancha), one of the Inca’s most important temples, on top of which sits the Convent of Santo Domingo.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Centro Historico De Cusco, Cusco 08002 Peru

When your tour of Cusco’s surrounding sites is over, head back to the city, where you’ll visit its main square – the beautiful Plaza de Armas. Here you’ll see two striking churches – Cusco Cathedral (also known as the Cathedral of Santo Domingo) and the Iglesia de La Compañía de Jesus (the Church of the Society of Jesus).

Tour Cusco Cathedral with your guide, learning about its rich history and admiring its exquisite late-Gothic and Baroque architecture. See some of its renowned art, including Pintura Senor de los Temblores, the oldest surviving painting in Cusco.

You’ll then be returned to your Cusco hotel.

This excursion was a jam packed tour de force of Cusco's local archaeological sites as well as the Cathedral of Santo Domingo. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about his city and its people.

Although you can get yourself to Sacsayhuaman by taxi, having a knowledgeable guide makes it so much better. Our guide from Viajes Pacifico was so good I thought he was a history professsor. The tour company was very professional. They emailed and called in advance to be sure were were ready on time. The coach was cleana and cofortable. We had purchased the local tourist ticket that included two if the sites on this tour, so the guide helped us sell the extra tickets, as the tour also included entry. This tour also went to the Cathedral, Temple of the sun aka Coricancha and the water fountain. All were really amazing. Work out on the step machine before coming to Peru as it seems everything is up hill, and do not forget a light rain coat as it rains sporadically but not for long at least in spring. Happy travels.

Tour was unbelievable! Guide was so knowledgeable it was like having our history teacher. Definitely a highlight of our trip. Only thing I did not appreciate was that the tour bus went out of our way to drop 2 different groups of guests at their hotels, which was not originally planned. Added an extra hour to an already long day. A lot of climbing, but well worth it!

I was lucky, because we were only 3 persons on this trip. Got a lot of info from the guides, it was very interesting, although a little bit rushed. As in all trips I booked at Viator, hotel pick-up and drop-off was supposed to be included, but not full-filled: pick-up here was too difficult due to festival traffic, so I had to come by taxi to another meeting point, and had to pay the taxi myself. Drop-off also not at the hotel, but coincidentely not too far away, which was not the case with some of the other trips. I do not mind not having a pick-up/drop-off, but then do not promise / include it in the offer.

awesome tour of the city and the surrounding sites. the city tour and church was amazing. we had already been to macho picchu and ollentaytambo before, so the sites outside of the city weren't as exciting, but would be great if starting in Cusco before heading out to the sacred valley. tour guide was perfect.

We had so much fun on this tour thanks in large part to our amazing tour guide. He was funny and quirky with a ton of knowledge. The tour itself was fine but the guide made it one of the highlights of the trip for us!

Amazing places. I learned so much in this tour than in school. The tour guide was very knowlrdgeable and patient. The places gave me a sense of belonging, and a lot to think about how history was made and changed throuhg the minds of others.

an informative tour at a pleasant pace. guide Jose Angel enthusiastic and interesting. such spectacular sites, so much easier to have transportation provided and details explained. highly recommended! might consider taking the tour after you have acclimated to the altitude as we go to rather high inca ruins and its more fun if you are not feeling sick from the altitude! do the tour on the second or third day! enjoy!

Because there was no one else on this tour, Viator let me customize my pick up time and the itinerary. I had already toured the cathedral and other in city attractions so we went only to the sites outside of the city: Sacsayhuaman, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. Like all Viator guides that I've had, my guide was very knowledgable, informative and personable. Sacayhuaman was one of my top three favorite Inca sites. Don't miss it!
