Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most precious and fascinating Polish monuments. The first tourist trail in Wieliczka was established as early as the beginning of the19th century. A couple of centuries later the salt mine was designated as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites (1978).

The underground path leads through numerous drifts, galleries and chambers, where traces of mining activity have been preserved, as well as examples of art, theme compositions relating to the history of the mine and its legends. Wieliczka is the world's largest mining heritage museum with a collection encompassing unique pieces of mining equipment reflecting the development of mining techniques from the Middle Ages until today. Moreover, the microclimate of the mine has a beneficial impact on visitors who suffer from asthma and allergies.

The tour starts with a descent of 64 meters by stairs. You are then led through a number of chambers and shown underground lakes, shrines and salt monuments. The trip finishes at the level of 135 meters below the surface and the return to the surface is by lift.

20 minute journey by coach from Kraków, lots of steps down to the mine and quite a long trek but absutely worth, it is stunning, everything made from salt, even the chandeliers and sculptures! Amazing, and the journey back to the surface was in a lift so no steps to climb albeit a little bit cramped

This tour was great. We did have to get to a pickup zone but it was only a 10 min. walk. Highly recommend Crakow tours.

What an amazing experience. Our guide margaret was full of knowledge. You can not imagine what life must have been like for the miners. The chapels, statues and the chandlers are absolutely beautiful. The lift back up was abit scary. So glad we booked this trip an experience that we will never forget.

Amazing to think we only saw 1% of the mine as it goes on for miles.! Tour guide was very passionate and informative

A lot of standing around when you first get there but once inside it is amazing. Be warned this is not really suitable for people with walking problems etc nor young children. It starts with the never ending stairs! Over 300. thenthe mine which is really interesting, we unfortunately had a guide with a very strong accent which made it a little difficult to understand, but we read the legends and most of it is self explanatory the scenes inside are very well done. and after much walking the church is mind blowing! All in all a very good experience and enjoyable. My only problem is that for me the walking got too much which I suffered for the next day lol.Highly reccomend this tour

The salt mine is truly impressive, with some century old corridors, impressively large and high halls you wouldn't expect, and a very distinctive atmosphere. The tour was very well timed, the guide's explanation interesting and generous. Of course, be prepared to walk a lot and go down numerous stairs because you're going 135 meters underground! Don't be worried about the way back up though, there's an elevator for that. Despite the fact we spent more than 2h walking in the galleries, the guide specified we only saw a bit more than 1% of it. That place is just huge!

Absolutely outstanding. The tour was well run, the guide very knowledgeable and the group not too large to manage where we could ask individual questions.

Good trip, very interesting couldnt really make out what guide was saying (think it was equipment).but overall good day and not far from krakow.

You can miss going here. Was amazing. Don't let the no of steps put you off. Really wasn't that bad. The guide is excellent. Can hear what's being said on listening device/earpiece.

The trip was well organised and the bus left on time and was air conditioned. There was a short wait on arrival and then the tour was explained to us. There’s around 830 steps to walk down in total and around a 2 km walk around the mine so you need a basic level of fitness. I would highly recommend this very informative tour.

Certainly worth a visit. Expected a dark damp dirty cave. But it was very clean well lit and very interesting tour, with a lot of amazing caverns and structures all the way around the tour. 3 hour tour and we only seen 1% of the mine. Some tips go by an arranged tour. You skip the huge visitor queues and get headphones so you can hear the guide going around. Wear sensible shoes or trainers as a lot of walking starting with going down 400 step stair case. Then down another 400 over rest of tour. You get a lift back up at end of tour. Would say not suitable for small children unless you want to carry them for the tour

The tour was much in-depth and the mine had more to it than I expected. The tour leader was very knowledgeable and made it fun.

Amazing insight to the old salt mining days. Superb sculptures and the church is absolutely magnificent. Did feel like we were being rushed along by our guide at times an extra few minutes at each briefing stop would've been nice but overall the guide was very good. One thing that was annoying was the fact that you are expected to pay 10 zloty if you will d h to take photos. No problem with this but found most weren't paying but still taking lots of photos. Out of our party of around 30 people only 3 of us actually paid the fee but everyone was taking photos! This needs knocking on the head somehow. Otherwise a wonderful day.

This was a very interesting trip. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we enjoyed his sense of humour. It requires lots of walking and downward stairs. If you’re claustrophobic, don’t go because you won’t like the elevator back up.

Excellent tour. Very little queuing. Our guide Bianca was excellent. The audio guides worked well so it was not necessary to be very close to her. The sets were beautifully made and presented an idea of what it was like at the time. The grand chamber was magnificent.

We really enjoyed the salt mines, loved the chapel and carvings, magda was our guide and she was lovely, the only down side was having to wait for 45 minutes for our bus to return surely given that you are dropped off and they know how long the tour takes the bus should be there for you , I would recommend this tour but be warned there are 800 steps and a lot of walking

This is must see in Krakow. We were transported to the site in a clean and new minibus then were hand over to the site’s certified English guide. The salt mine was totally amazing and the guide was informative. Worth the price.

A not to be missed experience in Krakow at The Salt Mine. Our guide Sebastiana who we met up with at the mine was very informative and funny during our 2 1/2 hour visit there. The half an hour to get there was in a small minibus comfortable and arrived on time.
