Day 1


Welcome to Beijing and the start of your city break. You'll be met at the airport and transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 2

Tiananmen Square

This morning, explore the heart of Beijing including the vast Tiananmen Square where Chairman Mao’s tomb and various monuments to the people are located. Dominating the city’s heart is the Forbidden City, a centre of power for five centuries and seat of the emperors. Entering through the Gate of Heavenly Peace (replete with Chairman Mao’s portrait above the gate), enjoy a guided walk around old city within a city. Later you'll take an exciting rickshaw ride through the Hutongs of Beijing, weaving through old back lanes, traditional courtyards and compact houses, gaining a fascinating snapshot of the city’s traditional way of life.

Tonight, feast on a traditional Peking Duck dinner and watch an astounding acrobatic show.

Day 3

The Great Wall

After a free morning to further explore the city, you'll drive beyond Beijing to Badaling, to walk a section of the famous Great Wall. Built in the Ming Dynasty, a 6m wide pathway makes a formidable defence, following the highest contours of a steep range of hills. There's time to enjoy and explore the wall before visiting a Jade Carving Centre to learn about this ornamental rock and its importance in Chinese culture. After lunch visit Ming Tomb and Sacred Road. Along the Sacred Road there are many stone statues of people and animals on both sides, these are the loyal guarders of the royal graveyard.

Day 4

Free day

Free day to enjoy Beijing your way. This evening, take an overnight sleeper train journey to Shanghai.

Days 5-6


From fishing village to super metropolis, Shanghai is an incredible blend of old and new, Just across the Huangpu River is the new Shanghai, a high-tech development of sky scrapers, the centre piece of which is the rocket-shaped Oriental Pearl TV tower. Mercedes and BMW cars cruise the neon-lit streets, modern department stores rub shoulders with cool bars and Shanghai is staking its claim to being China’s foremost metropolis. On day 5 a sightseeing tour of Shanghai takes in many city sights including the highest in Shanghai - the Shanghai Centre, Yuyuan Garden and The Bund. In the evening cruise on the Huangpu River with spectacular night view of the city.

Day 6 is free for you to independently explore Shanghai. Perhaps visit the French Quarter and the old city, or enjoy drinks, jazz and nibbles at the historic Peace Hotel on the Bund.
