Leave central Paris and head southwest by luxury minibus to the historic town of Versailles, roughly 25 miles (40km) away. Famous as the home of King Louis XIV, the town’s palace, gardens and memorials all attest to the sheer grandeur of his ruling era.

First stop is the Palace of Versailles, the town’s sprawling palatial compound where Louis XVI and his wife, Marie Antoinette, once lived. At the center of French royal power throughout 17th and 18th centuries, the building oozes royal elegance and, as such, draws visitors from all around the world.

Head straight past the long lines of visitors outside the palace with your skip-the-line ticket, and head inside to experience the history and opulence of it. On a tour led by your expert guide, discover the stunning State Apartments that comprise the Hall of Mirrors and Queen’s Apartments. While walking, your guide will enthrall you with tales of the kings who lived there.

After an hour of touring Versailles Palace, stroll out into the gardens to explore them at your leisure. Every bit as grand as the palace, the French Baroque-style gardens took nearly 40 years to complete with magnificent features like the Versailles fountains and the Orangery. After strolling around, meet your guide for lunch at a restaurant, close to Versailles' Grand Canal. Please see the Itinerary below for your sample menu.

Your afternoon is spent at the estate of Trianon, which "is perhaps most closely associated with Queen Marie-Antoinette", where you will visit the Petit Trianon, the place where "The wife of Louis XVI regularly sought refuge." Marie Antionette’s Queen’s Hamlet is nearby, and this is the last Versailles sight to be seen before your journey back to Paris. Designed by the popular French architect Richard Mique, the retreat features a charming thatched-roof cottage, lakes, streams and even a little farmhouse.

After exploring the Queen’s Hamlet, head back to your luxury minibus for the return journey to Paris.

Everyone told us to skip Versailles because the lines would be too long and it would be so crowded we would not enjoy it. So wrong!!! Our guide Ricardo was not only knowledgeable about the history, but he knew how to navigate the site so efficiently that not a moment was wasted on a line!!

It was our lucky day - this turned into a private tour as we were the only couple signed up that particular day. Our guide did a spectacular job of getting us to the gates and positioned for entry at our pre-assigned time. She then guided us well through the palace itself over about an hour's time. We then had time to peruse the gardens on our own before meeting at a pre-assigned time and location near the Grand Canal for a 3 course lunch. Following lunch, we were driven a short distance to the Grand Trianon an Petit Trianon. From there, I wandered on my own to Marie Antoinette's village before returning to the vehicle for return trip to Paris. Pick up was near the Eiffel Tower and very convenient to our hotel.

Guide was very knowledgeable. I wish she had slowed down her speech just a little. The perfect amount of time to see everything.

I enjoyed all the knowledge out tour guide shares with us. She was able to answer all our question with great detail. After seeing the long lines I was very thankful to have the tickets to skip the line. There were only six of us during the walk through Versailles which made it easy to listen and stay in a group among so many people. I liked that our guide gave us an hour or so to walk the gardens. I was disappointed that I didn’t get to see more of them. That had nothing to do with our tour. The gardens are so big you would have to make another trip to see all of the grounds. The lunch was excellent! The little lady restaurant was beautiful and the staff was so friendly. Our guide was nice enough to suggest a few other places to see while in Paris. She accommodated is with a drop of where we could walk and visit a few other places in the evening. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Great pleasure we experienced with this day trip. We were just 5 people and that gave us the opportunity of getting the most of the kindness and knowledge of Sara!! Even though it was a terribly hot day Sara did the best to make us enjoy. Privileged access to Versailles (the Queues were huge!!) best spots to take pictures !! Excellent guide and for the fact of being just 5 we got a lot of details and the chance of interacting with the knowledgeable Sara!! Congrats and thanks for a wonderful day !! Totally recommended!!

We had a memorable day on this tour and we were pleased that Nicola was our guide for the day. She was friendly, knowledgeable and thoughtful. With only four of us on the tour we had access to Nicola to ask questions and hear her explanations about our tour of the palace. Nicola picked us up at the Viator office in a late model, clean vehicle. She was an excellent driver ensuring that all passengers wore seat belts. During the day, she relocated the vehicle to other locations to reduce the time to get from place to place. Our lunch was delightful and tasty with starter salad, entree, dessert and wine. The tour included the palace, the gardens, and Marie Antoinette's estate. We were fortunate that the day we visited was a holiday and the garden fountains were active accompanied by music.

So much to see, so little time. It was great to skip waiting in lines. Versailles is breathtakingly beautiful and definitely a must see, inside as well as the gardens.

This tour is a must. It is the only way to do the Palace- Zara our tour guide was excellent. Very knowledgeable and made the ride there interesting by providing information that you would not get unless you were with a local. Once at the palace, you do skip the lines and Zara moved us past all the crowds, she is wonderful. Lunch was spectacular- very nice, elegant restaurant with great food. After lunch she took us to the Mini Palace that belonged to Marie Antoinette. It was spectacular. I do recommend a full day there as I am not sure if you get to the mini palace on a half day.

My husband and I booked Viator's Best of Versailles Day Trip from Paris, and we were generally happy with our experience. This was a full-day, small group 8-person skip-the-line tour. We were instructed to meet the group at the tour company office at 8:00 a.m. with a scheduled departure of 8:20 a.m. We would have appreciated hotel pick-up, but that was not an option. We barely got there in time, since it was rush hour in Paris, and we had a difficult time getting a cab, despite the concerted efforts of our hotel concierge to call two cab companies. Apparently others had the same issue. All was well, however, when we got underway. Our English speaking guide, Michelle, was most pleasant and informative. She got us into Versailles with very little wait and led us through the palace, providing helpful commentary along the way, which was communicated to us through our ear buds. Unfortunately, her equipment was not the best, so it was often difficult to hear her unless we were right beside her, which was not always possible given the very crowded conditions. This was not the fault of our guide the company should really invest in better equipment We did not have this problem on a 25-person tour of the Louvre the day prior. Of course, a highlight of the palace was the Hall of Mirrors, which was opulent, but hard to fully appreciate because of the crowds. Once we had exited the palace, we had free time to explore the beautiful gardens, pools and fountains on our own before meeting back at La Flottille, a lovely Versailles café by the canal, for a delicious 3-course lunch with wine. By this time, we were all having a great time! After lunch, we concluded our tour with a visit to the Queens Hamlet and the Grand Trianon, the charming estate and grounds of Madame Pompadour and Marie Antoinette. Despite a couple of minor glitches mentioned above, we enjoyed this tour very much and would not hesitate to recommend it.

Favorite tour of the 2 weeks in France ! Michelle was the best ! Our van was comfortable and air conditioned , Michelle is a master at French art and history and gives you sooooo much information that is well said and easy to understand . Versailles deserves 2 whole days , but with the skip the line pass and Michelle we did not feel that rushed. 4 in our group and we all loved the tour and Michelle .

This is one tour that we wished we had more time. The lunch was the best including the wine. The views were beyond belief. You can easily spend two days here and still not see everything you want to see.

This tour was excellent! Michelle was our guide and she was well informed, enthusiastic and full of interesting information, a joy to be with. The group was small 8 total and we all got along remarkably well. The lunch was delicious and not crowded, and the afternoon visit to the Trianons and gardens was well worth it. Definitely will recommend to friends!

This was an interesting and informative tour. Our guide was patient and accommodating. There is much more to this tour than the palace. The gardens and farm were the highlight of this trip for us. A day well spent.

The tour company was fabulous. There was only 8 people on the tour. To see Versailles is not to be missed. It is an unbelievable palace and grounds.

Nicola - you are amazing!! Great guide with tons of knowledge plus she spoke clear and succinctly. I wasn't expecting much for the lunch, but it was also excellent! Nice small group of only 8. Versailles is not to be missed and this tour delivered everything that we wanted. Thanks!

THE best way to see Versailles, especially if your lucky to have Nicolette sp as your guide. As a history major in college, she brings an in-depth knowledge of that era. She knows all 18 king Louis and the intimate details of Marie Antoinette's life at Versailles and beyond. As a late March visitor, we traded green lush grounds for a less crowded experience. The garden is not to be missed. We had the lunch package which was delightful and delicious. Absolutely skip the line or parachute in but don't stand with the school groups from Peoria or the busloads from Peking. Also, check your insurance to see if you are covered for selfie-stick stabbings. Enjoy!!
