Stop At: Golden Circle Route, Iceland

Get into the history of Iceland at Thingvellir National Park, witness the powerful beauty of a multi-tiered waterfall at Gullfoss and walk among bubbling geothermal pools at Geysir Geothermal Area.

Duration: 7 hours

Stop At: Thingvellir National Park, Thingvellir Iceland

Learn about some of the thrilling and somewhat gruesome history of Iceland at Thingvellir National Park. It’s significance is so great that it is a designated UNESCO world heritage site. You’ll walk the grounds where Icelandic democracy began and visit sites where Viking-era justice was carried out including the Drowning Pool and the Gallows Rock. Thingvellir is also the place where two tectonic plates are gradually separating creating a gorgeous landscape of steep cliffs and broad fields featuring Thingvallavatn, the largest natural lake in Iceland.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Geysir, Haukadalur Iceland

The Great Geysir, the first of its name, resides in Haukadalur in the Geysir Geothermal Area. The entire area is bubbling with geothermal activity from steam vents to boiling mud pits and the real stars of the geothermal show, the geysers. All other geysers, the world over, are named for Geysir.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Strokkur, Haukadalsvegur, Geysir Iceland

While the Great Geysir erupts only occasionally these days, the last time being in 2016, nearby geyser Strokkur erupts regularly delighting onlookers by shooting hot water high into the air every few minutes.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Gullfoss, White River, Blaskogabyggd 801 Iceland

The most popular waterfall in Iceland is, without a doubt, Gullfoss (the golden falls). And that is saying quite a lot in a country that is home to thousands of waterfalls. Gullfoss is also considered by many to be one of the most beautiful in Iceland and it is certainly one of the largest. Hearing the roar of the Hvita River as it plunges 32 meters over two tiers into the gorge below is exhilarating. On sunny days, rainbows are abundant in the mist rising from the falls and there are several paths available around the waterfall including one leading down to its bottom so come equipped with your raincoat and have your camera at the ready.

Such a well organised and well run day! Our guide was super and let us know all there was to know - but let us do our thing once we arrived at each place. The first stop was my favourite - sunrise in the Þingvellir National Park, so magical! :—) Some coach day tours can be very tedious and a long day but this was anything but. Definitely recommend!

Driver and Guide were both excellent. Signing up was easy. There was a bit of confusion about which bus we were supposed to get on, but they got everything sorted out quickly and we left on time. The sights were incredible. The falls in the winter are truly beautiful compared to the summer. You can't get as close to them as you can in the summer, but you wouldn't want to. Don't forget to get the lamb stew for lunch at the falls. It's a wonder in itself. If you go in the winter be sure to over dress. The weather can switch from rain to snow to clear skies within minutes. Be prepared and you'll have a great time.

Really efficient and amazing day with plenty of time to explore between stops so you don’t feel your travelling all the time - Darren (our guide) was particularly brilliant!

Had a great day. The trip was well organised. Pick up on time then drive around the sites. Really enjoyed it, lots of information given by the guide and time to see each of the sites. Well worth going even though we were very tired. Thank you

We had an amazing time on the Golden Circle tour. Our tour guide, Simon, was very knowledgeable and funny, we really enjoyed him. There were three main stops: Thingvellir national park which was beautiful, Gulfoss waterfall which was very impressive and the Geysir which was really fun to watch. The landscape was beautiful overall. Tips: All the tours we went on in Iceland required you be at your bus stop 30 minutes prior to your tour time. We definitely saw people who had missed their tours because they didn't understand this. So make sure you know where your tour is picking you up and what time you need to be there. If you are not one of the main stops, they may pick you up via minibus to connect with the larger bus and the larger bus will drop you at the end of the day at a more major stop where the big bus can drive. This seemed true across all the companies we used but it is good to know. The bus driver will help you pick which stop to get off at but make sure you understand the bus stop before they start dropping people off.

The trip was well-organized and everything went really smoothly. We loved our tour guide, Simon, as he was very knowledgeable and funny. He brightened up the whole trip. Although it was rainy and cloudy, but as we know, the weather could be even worse in November. Overall, we had a good time.

This trip is absolutely worth the money! Well organised, great guide who was very knowledgeable and beautiful scenery unlike anything I've ever seen before. There was plenty of time on the bus to recover from the walking - I did over 20,000 steps on my fitbit! We explored waterfalls in Thingvellir, (look out for the brown trout, they are amazing!), got blown off our feet at Gullfoss and saw a glacier in the distance! A first for us and quite a sight! My favourite part was the geysir, such fun and got some fabulous slow motion videos to bring home. A long day but made memories we will never forget!

This was a nice tour. The tour bus was very clean and comfortable, and offered USB charging ports. The guide spoke very clearly and explained everything well. 3 stops on the tour, and each stop lasted 30-60 minutes. Each stop also offered food and toilets.

I was recently on a cruise ship that went to Iceland. The ship stopped in Reykjavik and offered a shore excursion called the Golden Circle to Thingvellir National Park, the Gullfloss Waterfalls, and the Geysir Geothermal area. The shore excursions was $209 per person, but, unfortunately, by the time we tried to sign up on the ship, the shore excursion was sold out. So, the morning that we docked in Reykjavik, my sister suggested we contact Viator. After telling her that I doubted that we would be able to get a tour for that same day, she persisted. So, since we had nothing to lose, we went on line and got in touch with Viator. Lo and behold! We were actually able to get a tour to the Golden Circle for that afternoon at 12:30. The price for the tour was a very reasonable $69 per person for a complete 6 1/2 hour tour! The tour was run by Gray Line, a local tour company in Iceland. The tour driver, Sosh, and guide, Christina, picked us up and others from my ship, promptly at the cruise terminal at 12:30 pm. We made one more stop to pick up a few others and by 1:00 pm we were on our way in a comfortable tour bus. Our guide was knowledgeable and her English impeccable, as she explained all that we were going to see. Our driver got us everywhere we needed to go safely. We got to see Thingvellir National Park, home of the divide in the North American and Euro-Asian tectonic plates. It was ruggedly beautiful. The Gullfloss Falls were gorgeous and powerful. The Geysir Geothermal area was like nothing I had ever seen before. Our Guide not only gave us a lot of interesting information about each area, she also had some charming and relevant anecdotes that she shared along the way to and from each stop. It was a most enjoyable learning experience. At each stop, she also gave specific instructions as to rest rooms, where we could eat, if we wanted, the location of where the bus would be, and the time we needed to be back at the bus. The funny thing is that at each stop we would run into people we knew who had taken the ship's more expensive shore excursion. Anyway, the Viator tour got us back to the ship safe and sound at the promised time. The tour guide and driver had made this a day to remember! Thank you, Viator, for making it possible for us to do the Golden Circle Tour at the last possible minute.
