Giethoorn & Enclosing Dike Full-Day Tour from Amsterdam
from USD $110.44
Availablity
In this full-day small group tour, discover the Giethoorn, picturesque town where people live with and on the water. Enjoy a boat cruise along the restored farm houses. You will have some free time for lunch and to explore the place on your own. The tour will continue on to the Enclosing Dike (Afsluitdijk), the 32 kilometer dike connecting the provinces of North Holland and Friesland. The Netherlands is famed the world over for the way it deals with water management. The Afsluitdijk, built to tame what was formerly the Zuiderzee (now the Ijsselmeer lake) is a prime example of Dutch water prowess. Then we head back to Amsterdam and in addition get a complimentary 1-hour canal cruise in Amsterdam to use at your leisure (worth €16).

I enjoyed this day trip- gave some variety to my Amsterdam trip and even though I love the hustle and bustle of a city, this was a nice change. The village was very interesting and I enjoyed the boat ride. Compared to other tours I found this one very relaxing and not rushed at all. The bus ride is not long and we had plenty of free time to explore Giethoorn, Also, often on these tours there is no time to eat or you just grab something quick for lunch- not the case at all for this tour. We had plenty of time to have a nice lunch in a restaurant.

Beautiful paradise outside the city. Tour guide gives you more than 3 hours of free time with the opportunity of renting your own small boat and explore around the canals or biking.

We had an nice trip to Giethoorn. It is a pretty and picturesque location. We went for a boat ride as part of the tour, later we went on our own for a walk and had a leisurely lunch. A laid back and enjoyable day.

Great tour.

Really enjoyed the tour. would have been better if the weather was warmer, but the rain did not stop us from enjoying the little village. Definitely better to visit when everything is greener and the sun is up. Does really worth it to travel from Amsterdam to visit .The tour guide on the coach was very knowledgeable and gave everyone a lot of information . I always prefer to have a TOUR guide as there is so much to learn from them .

This is the real-life version of the Storybook Canal boats at Disneyland. It's a beautiful villae with welcoming residents. Loved going through this little village by boat and then walking around.

This tour was the highlight of our vacation. One of the most beautiful places on the planet Giethoorn simply heaven on earth. The additional cost for Volendam trip was around Euro 25 which was not mentioned on Viator and a bit disappointing. The tour departed on time from a very central location. The commentary on the way was extensive and sometimes boring but the ride was comfortable. Quite a few pretty sites on the way including some fascinating windmills. First stop was Giethoorn Village and we were awestruck by the beauty. The one hour boat ride was amazing and the tour guide was hilarious. It was a couple of degrees colder on the boat so bring a windbreaker / jacket with you. After the ride we had time to explore the village on our own which was a wonderful experience. There are several cafes along the walkways and we tried coffee and cheese at a couple. The next stop was village of Volendam which seems more like something out of a fairy tale. The houses are stunning, beautiful, clean and well decorated. We stopped at a cheese store where they shared the process of making cheese and offered us variety to taste. Next stop was the stroopwaffle factory which was a lot of fun also. The return was via a nice double deck bus giving some great views of the route. I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone looking for serenity and fairy tale like views. Will also post photos.

Absolutely worth it love our tour guide , she spoke about some interesting fact about the Netherlands

Wow - a spellbinding place, right out of a picture postcard! This is how I would like to describe this place. Coming to the tour - this is the best way to visit this place within a day. Our guide, a lady I do not remember her name though made every effort to make this tour truly memorable for the visitors. Despite it being a stormy weather, she made sure that we do not the canal tour. She was very informative as well : FYI - I opted for this tour on Oct 5, 2017

This was a special trip, the highlight of our week in Holland. The weather was perfect. The place is a virtual garden of Eden. Clean fresh air, no roads meaning no cars. You can walk on the paths next to the canals or hire a boat. there are quaint shops, very good restaurants. I suggest staying there for 2 days at least. Our guide was excellent as was the driver. Our only problem with this tour was the very large group as we travelled to and fro on a double-decker bus, otherwise we would give this six6 stars.

Nathan was incredible and so informative! I noted my father was very slow in his old age and he tailored the entire tour around our needs. Highly recommend!

Best tour guide that I had met so far from the same company, unfortunately I had forgotten her name. I enjoy the fact that the tour guide was very informative and the personal stories that she shares of her childhood makes the experience more personal. Nice place to visit despite the rainy weather.

The driver was very professional. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and outgoing. We had our own time to explore and enjoy lunch in Gienthoorn.

Tour was advertised as small group max 10 persons. In the end, it was like 25-30 persons! What a misrepresentation. Also, the stop at the enclosing dike was pretty pointless. There was nothing to see and we were there for 30 minutes for no reason. Rather spend the time at Giethoorn instead. Am giving this 4 stars only because I enjoyed my time at Giethoorn.

I loved Giethoorn. Really loved it. I haven't 100% liked the tour itself as much as I did in Bruges the day before though; the guide was really nice, she was lovely, but I struggled to follow her explanations for some reason. I liked the restaurant we've been taken but I think it was a little restrictive for some of us - I didn't mind in this case but not all people might want to choose a restaurant meal, maybe they want to save let's say, and we were kinda just taken there as we were also short on time for our boat trip? Maybe I misunderstood the situation. Boat trip was BEAUTIFUL, this place is a heaven. I was very disappointed only by the speakers lol; it made a horrible metallic sound and barely understood anything the gentleman said. I can actually understand spanish too so whenever I miss somehting from the english explanation I can listen to the spanish but whenever the lady would translate, her voice was even more distorted. At some point was even annoying to hear that screeching sound. Everything else was amazing. I did enjoy the tour so please do not take this as a useless complain I just wanted to give my opinion as a tourist. I really appreciated that on our way there we passed through the enclosing dyke and then we took another way back to Amsterdam, as Giethoorn is relatively close and the day trip is not too long, I felt that gave a better touch. I do reccomend this trip but I just wanted to give some insight on little details as I felt the trip in Bruges was a lot more "polished" at all times. I didn't catch the name of the guide but thank you for taking care of us for the day.

The trip to Geithorn was beautiful. A bit of a bus ride, but the town is so quaint and easily walkable. It was a nice change of pace from Amsterdam.
