Stop At: Joods Historisch Museum, Nieuwe Amstelstraat 1, 1011 PL Amsterdam The Netherlands

Travel back to the dark days of World War II on a 2-hour walking tour of Amsterdam, and learn what life was like following the occupation of the Netherlands by the Germans in 1940-1945 and how Anne Frank became an icon of the brutality of suppression. Hear the story about her diary and how it came to be published by her father Otto Frank.

Meet your guide in front of the entrance of the Jewish Historical Museum, 15 minutes before the designated starting time of your tour. Stroll past monuments and buildings still marked by traces of war. Your guide will bring the history to life, giving you a sense of how the city’s citizens behaved during the occupation, and how they moved around in times of horror.

Learn why the Dutch tried to co-exist with the occupying army, and how the Dutch behaved towards the Jews of Amsterdam like Anne Frank. Hear about important events, such as the February Strike and Winter of Hunger.

Visit the Jewish neighborhood, and hear all about the Portuguese synagogue and Jewish Museum, the head office of the Jewish counsel, the dokwerker and the Auschwitz Monument. Discover locations the Dutch resistance offered as secret hiding places to families like the Franks. The tour ends next to the Anne Frank House, however: admission to Anne Frank’s House is not included.

Ideal for fans of European history, the tour also gives an insight into how the Jewish community lived, survived and still thrive in Amsterdam.

Excellent tour led by Raoul. Informative presentations throughout regarding Anne Frank and life for Jews in Amsterdam at this time. Also time to reflect at the Auschwitz memorial. Raoul was knowledgable and gave opportunity for questions and discussion. He did not let the rain affect his work, remaining professional at all times. Good option if you havnt managed to get tickets for anne frank house/museum.

My tour guide Manuel was great. He provided the right amount of history and had a great way of telling the story. I would definitely recommend this tour for all who come to Amsterdam.

Perfect tour with relevant info given in a very sympathetic way. Very interactive and with a wink of humour

Our guide, Arthur, was very knowledgeable about the history of the Jews in Holland despite not being Jewish! He was animated and engaging. We loved his narrative.Beware if you are not a walker that this was a significant hike for older people. Does not include a visit to the synagogue or Anne Frank house.

My husband and I really enjoyed this tour. It gave us perspective of the times before and during the Holocaust in Amsterdam Got to see many places associated with Ann Frank but didn’t get inside her house Didn’t feel the need to do so after this tour

Italia was an excellent tour guide. The weather was not very cooperative.....rained off and on. She did her best to accommodate the varied conditions. The tour was very informative.

While this tour is themed around the Anne Frank story there is so much more to that part of Amsterdam's history. Our guide did a very good job of framing the historical points in the context of Amsterdam in the early 1900's to modern day. As a result we came away with a better understanding of what Anne and her whole community went through and what has made Amsterdam the amazing, vibrant city that it is.

Raoul was a fantastic guide, very knowledgeable and responsive on the tour. I’d highly recommend to anyone who is interested in learning / hearing the history.

Great tour lots of information about WWII. Our guide Raoul was knowledgeable and interesting. Definitely worth doing.

Our guide Vince was excellent. He really brought the history and areas alive, and had a number of photographs and stories to share (since many buildings no longer exist). He really made the walking tour worthwhile, while we were immersed in such a tragic part of history. If you are interested in history, in the Jewish story of Amsterdam, and seeing the various areas of importance, take this tour. (We had visited the Anne Frank house earlier in the week, and it added to the overall knowledge.)

Basically a walking tour/history of the Jewish people in Amsterdam and The Netherlands with a special focus on the events of WWII and how all the Dutch dealt with the occupation starting in 1940. Tour lasts about 3 hours and it begins at the Portuguese Synagogue and ends at the Anne Frank house. A lot of the second part of the tour focused on Anne Frank and the Frank family in their trials and tribulations of hiding from the occupiers. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about all the events and some of the background too. You'll be lucky if Marjoke is your tour guide. (comfortable walking shoes a must).

Our guide, Talia, was outstanding! Not only did she share an incredible amount of info, but she did it with warmth and a desire that we really imagine the lives of not only Anne Frank and her family, but the people of Amsterdam and those involved in the resistance movement. She eagerly answered questions and engaged all of us in the group -- from teens to seniors. We were lucky that our Anne Frank House tickets (not included in the tour) were for a time very soon after our walking tour, so the images and emotions were fresh in our minds. Ask for Talia if you can and you won't be disappointed!

The tour was very informative. Great information on the Jews and how they were treated in the war. We also learned a lot about The history of Amsterdam.

Spent 2 hours enjoying the history of the area and Anne Frank history. Nice easy level walking, our guide spoke English very well

I really like this tour, our guide was very informative and told the story really well, in fact I had a lump in my throat for some time listening to what they endured from the Hitler regime. We were taken to the memorial of the lost Jews as was depicted by an artist, whch was quite moving and walked outside the homes where brass plagues have been set into the paved paths outside the homes of families lost. I wouldrecommend this tour, make sure you take a bottle of water with you and you will get thirsty walking around and they don't really stop anywhere for you to get drinks.

The tour was excellent. I can not recommend Josha highly enough. She is one of the best guides I’ve ever had, and Ivedone dozens of tours. She was well informed, charming, entertaining and clear in her explanations. She is exceptional. Thank you!

Tour guide Arthur was very knowledgeable and entertaining. He had pictures on his iPad with him to show the group at each stop. Tour covered a large part of the city. He brought the history of that time period alive in a most interesting way. Highly recommend this tour.

The lady that gave the tour was wonderful - her name started with an "M", and she mentioned Monica, but that was not her name, but close, but of course now all I remember! Very good at this, and could answer all our questions.

My husband and I did this tour. The guide was way beyond knowledgeable! He was able to provide back-story due to his family's acquaintance with the Frank's, and he did so with warmth and humor. He was also very attuned to the needs of each member of the group.
