Stop At: Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown New Zealand

Stop At: Fiordland National Park (Te Wahipounamu), Fiordland National Park Visitor Centre, Te Anau, Fiordland National Park New Zealand

Once through the Homer Tunnel, you'll wind the way down the Cleddau Valley. At this time you arrive in an area called Fiordland but are visiting a "Sound", the difference will be explained.

You link up with a scenic cruise for a 1 hour and 45 minute excursion on the fjord.

Being picked up from our accommodation was a bonus. The scenery and stop off points the whole way on the trip was outstanding. Kreig was a fantastic tour guide, any questions were answered, and we cant thank him enough for the amazing day. He came on the boat with us and was willing to get soaked just to take photos of the group. He was friendly, informative and extremely knowledgable. It was great getting to know everyone on the tour with an activity on the way down. We were travelling back to Christchurch after the 14 hour day and Kreig gave us his number to check in when we had arrived safely. This was very thoughtful and we couldn't have asked for a better tour guide.

Had a fantastic trip on the Milford Sound with this company. Host (Chris) was very informative and friendly, with great stories to tell ... great food as well. The scenery is just spectacular, not to be missed when on the South Island.

This tour was one of the best I have ever experienced in all my travels. Our tour guide, Graham of Altitude tours was very kind and very knowledgable. The whole trip was amazing!

It was raining all day but it was for the best because we're able to experience multiple water falls and our tour guide Rob [i hope i get it right] has lots to share and very accomodating.. he cooked excellent bbq! The cruise pips are also excellent pointing to us what to look for.. it was exhilarating experience! Wonder of nature!

The Milford Sound BBQ Experience was fantastic. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining throughout our day trip. The group was very intimate (just 6 of us) which allowed us to stop and see things the large tour buses could not necessarily experience. The barbecue lunch on the boat was also quite tasty!

We had a great time on this day trip - the pacing of the day was good, the guide was very friendly and gave us a lot of good info about New Zealand and Milford Sound. I'd definitely do this trip again!

We enjoyed our tour to Milford Sound and felt fortunate to have Rob as our guide! He was informative and very funny but didn’t do too much commentary. The scenery is amazing and we are so glad we did this tour. Because it is a 15 seater van, we enjoyed not being part of a huge tour. We were able to stop at beautiful locations along the way and our boat cruise was also smaller. We would highly recommend this tour!

The drive and stops along the way to the Milford sound boat ride was beautiful. Rob was an excellent, friendly and knowledgeable guide. The boat ride was great as was the crew.

Trip was very well organized. Graeme was knowledgeable and an excellent driver. The stops were all interested. Feedback: good detail about the areas on the way to Milford Sound. Very interesting. Milford Sound was as advertised. Quite dramatic and beautiful. The boat ride on the Sound was perfect. I personally would have appreciated perfect quiet on the ride home, particularly after we left the mountain area - e.g. no music (or volume turned down at least) and no movie was needed. I was tired. I could see others were trying to sleep after a very long day. i was too.

This was an amazing day as we traveled from Queenstown to Milford Sound and back. Nigel was an excellent tour guide, driver, and cook. He shared many interesting details along the way and made some beautiful stops along the way. Being part of the BarBque bus was a great alternative to the large tour group buses as well as driving the route in our rental car.

Hotel pick up was timely and convenient. Multiple scenic stops along the way including restroom stop each way. Driver very pleasant humorous and informative. Lunch was delicious served at an historic cabins maintained somewhat in their original state from the gold rush days. Boat crew were friendly and chatty. While a long day this is an iconic New Zealand outing that should not be missed...pack a snack for the way home...

I booked this trip as a solo traveler and chose this one initially on the appeal that it was a smaller group and that it'd likely be a better and more intimate way to see Milford Sound and the trip went beyond expectations.Rob was an incredible guide and while some might argue that the drive is something you could easily do yourself in a hire car the local knowledge and experience that Rob brought to the trip can't be undervalued - plus, you get to spend the whole trip looking out at the scenery instead of focusing on the road.Being a smaller group we had the ability to stop more frequently for photos and scenic points of interest than the larger coaches and our boat cruise of Milford was also on a smaller vessel than the big coaches would have had to book, which meant a more relaxed and intimate tour of the sound itself. The BBQ part of the trip was also great. I dropped a note that I was vegetarian and was perfectly catered to. Don't let dietary restrictions stop you from considering this tour. All in all, after taking this tour with Rob as our guide I wouldn't even imagine recommending any other tour to anyone visiting the area and wanting to see Milford. He was quick to point out any wildlife we came across and brought a great mix of humor and information to the journey out and back.

This was one of the best tours i have joined so far. Our guide graham gave us really good insight about the area and made sure we stopped at the amazing sites.

Some have said that the weather variables make for iffy trip. We experienced nothing but fabulous views for the entire trip. Our guide was so entertaining that we almost took our eyes off the scenery along the way. He was also a great cook and prepared our lunch at yet another scenic stop. We could have transported ourselves since we had a rental car, but are happy we didn't. A very relaxing and interesting trip that would have been a real effort without the tour guide.

Fabulous tour with a small group in a large van. Our driver prepared a grilled picnic lunch along the way and also gave fabulous information as we travelled from Queenstown to Milford Sound. When we arrived at the Sound, our driver secured our tickets for the hour long boat ride among the fabulous fjords. Highly recommend taking this tour.

I went on this tour in Oct. 2016, it was our first time visiting New Zealand. Our driver, Nigel, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I can not recommend this tour enough! Nigel taught us a lot on local history and the local wildlife and plants.

Was such a great trip! The driver was extremely knowledgeable and so fun! He was very entertaining and was great about taking us to some stops that were not busy with tourists so we were able to get great photos! The lunch he brought was very tasty! The boat was also great! It was such beautiful scenery and you could either sit outside or inside if it was too cool. The driver even brought us up to some waterfalls and those at the front of the boat could stand under it! We also decide to take a helicopter ride back instead of the bus back per a recommendation from our driver and that flight was amazing!! Best decision of our lives! Worth every penny! The scenery you see from that flight is just amazing!

Tour guide was VERY knowledgeable about the area. He was excellent at answering questions and having insight into areas he stopped at. BBQ was delicious.

Gran día, hermosos paisajes, el guia muy divertido. La barbacoa estuvo divertida en medio del campo. El paseo en barco imperdible.
• Submitted 30 Apr 2018
Fantastic day tour. This is a full, long day tour, but worth it. Once you get into the Fiordland National Park, the waterfalls are amazing. Pray for rain as this increases the number of waterfalls you will see.
• Submitted 18 Apr 2018
A long day but thoroughly enjoyable. Our guide was fun and informative. He was also attentive to the needs of all the passengers. We liked that it was a small mini bus rather than a large group. It is a long drive to Milford Sound but we had lots of informative commentary and stopping for a barbecue which our driver prepared for us was a treat. The cruise on the Milford Sound was amazing - scenery is stunning and very peaceful. Well worth seeing. Of course there is then the long drive back but our driver had a movie for us - made in New Zealand of course, which we all watched with increased awareness and appreciation. Great tour. Recommend it.

This was a very long day, made enjoyable by our personable and knowledgeable driver/guide, Rob. Well worth the time if you want to maximize your experience in a short period of time. We were picked up on time at our air b and b, picked up some others, and headed out. Beautiful sights, well-planned pit stops, entertaining and informative narrative.
