Taiyuan Pingyao City Experience

Upon arrival at Taiyuan Airport or railway station, a representative will be there to welcome you and escort you on a private 30-minute transfer to your hotel in Taiyuan. Once settled, you have the remainder of the day at your leisure. This is a great opportunity to rest after your journey or to begin exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere at your own pace. After breakfast, we will collect you from the hotel lobby at around 8:30 and drive to Pingyao. En route, we will visit Jinci Temple, Shanxi’s most significant temple complex, located just 30 minutes from Taiyuan at the foot of Xuanweng Mountain. Here, we will explore its tranquil gardens and the revered Holy Mother Hall. Next, we continue to Qiao’s Family Compound, a traditional northern Chinese merchant residence renowned for its impressive scale and intricate wood, brick and stone carvings. We will pause for lunch at a local restaurant before proceeding to Pingyao, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its well-preserved ancient city walls. Upon arrival in the late afternoon, we will check into your hotel, leaving you free to explore the “Turtle City” at your leisure.

After breakfast, we will take a half-day walking tour around the ancient walls of Pingyao City, exploring its well-preserved architecture and historic streets. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant before driving 30 minutes to Shuanglin Temple, renowned for its collection of over 2,000 painted clay statues dating from the 12th to 19th centuries—often called the museum of coloured sculptures. In the afternoon, we will return to Taiyuan, arriving at the hotel around 6pm. The evening is yours to relax or explore at your leisure. Overnight in Taiyuan.

After breakfast, you will check out of your hotel and transfer to Taiyuan Airport or railway station for your onward journey or return trip.
