Day 2 - Zagreb - Banja Luka - Jajce - Sarajevo
We'll set off early in the morning for our journey to Bosnia, keeping in mind that crossing the border may take some time. As we traverse the countryside, we're reminded of the region's poignant history during the 1990s conflict. Our first destination is Banja Luka, the second-largest city in Bosnia and the capital of the Republika Srpska autonomous entity. You'll have time to discover the city's notable landmarks, including its fortress and Orthodox cathedral, and enjoy a leisurely lunch. Following Banja Luka, we continue to Jajce, a town renowned for its cultural richness and distinctive features such as a mosque and fortress. The highlight here is the impressive waterfall, where entry is included. After ample time to explore, we'll proceed towards Sarajevo, arriving by evening. Once there, you'll have the chance to wander through the city's historic centre and visit the quaint Bazaar, an old Ottoman market famed for its architectural charm and traditional ambience. Dinner will be included to round off your day.
Day 3 - Sarajevo - Mostar - Dubrovnik
In the morning, we will embark on a guided tour of Sarajevo, a city famously known as the "Jerusalem of Europe" due to its rich tapestry of coexisting religions. This captivating city is graced by mosques, churches, and synagogues that reflect its diverse cultural heritage. Our exploration of the old town will highlight the significant Ottoman influence, with visits to a grand mosque over 500 years old and a charming fountain. Following our tour, we will journey through breathtaking landscapes to the historic city of Mostar. Here, you can wander through the mesmerising historic centre and admire the iconic stone bridge that connects Orthodox, Muslim, and Catholic communities. You'll have time for both lunch and a leisurely stroll. Later, we continue our journey into Croatia, anticipating some time for border checks. We plan to reach Dubrovnik by the end of the day, where we will enjoy a delightful dinner.
Day 4 - Dubrovnik
We will begin our day in Dubrovnik with a panoramic tour guided by a local expert. Considered one of Europe's most stunning cities, Dubrovnik stands majestically on a cliff, encircled by ancient walls and bordered by the sparkling Adriatic Sea. The well-preserved historic centre is a masterpiece of architectural heritage. During our tour, we'll enjoy breathtaking views of the city from a scenic vantage point along the road. Entry to the Franciscan Monastery, which houses Europe’s oldest pharmacy, and the Assumption Cathedral are included in our visit. We will also embark on a short boat trip to the nearby island of Lokrum, famed for its eleventh-century Benedictine monastery ruins and as a filming location for the Game of Thrones series. Afterward, you’ll have the rest of the afternoon to explore at your leisure before we head back to the hotel late in the day. Dinner will be included. Please note that on some occasions, we may stay in Cavtat, a lovely coastal town near Dubrovnik. Additionally, from November to March, the boat to Lokrum does not operate, so alternative plans will be in place.
Day 5 - Dubrovnik - Kotor - Budva - Tirana
We begin our day early as we set off for Montenegro, heading towards the breathtaking Bay of Kotor. The journey involves crossing over border formalities, after which you're treated to spectacular coastal vistas. We journey across the bay on a ferry, arriving in Kotor, a captivating town encircled by its historic walls and retaining a distinct Venetian charm. You'll have time to explore the town's hidden corners and immerse yourself in its enchanting atmosphere. Our next stop is Budva, a delightful fortified village by the Adriatic Sea, where we'll pause for lunch. Afterward, we journey onwards to Albania, pausing for border procedures before continuing to Tirana, the country's vibrant capital. Here, you'll have the evening free to discover the city at your own pace. Dinner will be provided, ensuring a satisfying end to an eventful day.
Day 6 - Tirana
On our final day, we'll embark on a city tour of Tirana, the vibrant capital of Albania. This captivating city offers a unique blend of cultural influences, which are clearly reflected in its architectural landscape. As we explore, we'll encounter significant sites such as its historic mosques and the iconic Clock Tower, accompanied by an array of government buildings showcasing various styles. As we conclude our journey, we hope you'll depart with a treasure trove of wonderful memories and experiences. Please remember to check your flight schedule, as you may decide to extend your stay for an additional night.
