Itinerary
Day 1 - Torshavn
Day 1 - Torshavn
Sorvagur - Torshavn. Upon arrival at Vagar International Airport, make your way to the car rental counter to pick up your car keys. Next, drive to the capital of the Faroe Islands, Torshavn, for your hotel check-in.
After settling in, you've got free time to wander through the historic heart of Tórshavn at Tinganes, where the first parliament was established in 825 during the Viking age. This quaint area is filled with a blend of red-painted wooden houses, stone structures, and grass-roofed buildings. Be sure to explore the charming district of Reyn with its picturesque wooden homes, and make your way to Skansin fort, a 17th-century stronghold that once defended the island from pirate attacks.
You can take a scenic walk making your way to the docks, where you can take a boat to the island of Koltur, where only one family resides. The island offers stunning views, and you can stroll along the cliffs, taking in the breathtaking landscapes of the Faroe Islands.
Day 2 - Torshavn to Klaksvik
Day 2 - Torshavn to Klaksvik
Torshavn - Klaksvik. After breakfast, you will make your way from Torshavn to Klaksvik, a village found on the eastern island of Bordoy. Klaksvik serves as an ideal gateway to the rugged terrain of this island.
Here, you can explore Christianskirkja, one of Scandinavia's oldest and most remarkable churches, showcasing traditional Nordic architecture. The church features ancient cast iron that dates back over 3,000 years. This region is also perfect for immersing yourself in nature, with dramatic cliffs and some of the best hiking trails in the Faroe Islands.
Day 3 - Slaettaratindur Hike, Risin & Kellingin
Day 3 - Slaettaratindur Hike, Risin & Kellingin
Klaksvik - Eidi - Gjógv. This morning, embark on a scenic drive to the island of Eysturoy, where you’ll have the opportunity to hike to Slaettaratindur, the island’s highest peak. Rising 880 metres, it rewards you with breathtaking panoramic views of the entire Faroe Islands.
Next, continue north to Eidi, then head east along the coastal cliffs, where you'll encounter Risin and Kellingin—the legendary petrified giant and witch from Iceland. According to folklore, they attempted to steal the Faroe Islands by tying a rope around a mountain, but as dawn broke, they were turned to stone by the rising sun.
After, you can visit the charming village of Gjógv, home to fewer than 50 residents, before making your way to the hotel. Well-preserved and known for its dedication to environmental sustainability, the village is named after a seawater-filled gorge that stretches from its heart to the ocean.
Days 4-5 - 2 Days Saksun, Vestmanna Cliffs & Vágar Exploration
Days 4-5 - 2 Days Saksun, Vestmanna Cliffs & Vágar Exploration
Gjógv - Saksun - Lake Leitisvatn - Vestmanna - Sorvagur. On day 4, journey back to the island of Streymoy, stopping en-route at the village of Saksun. Known for its tranquil setting, Saksun boasts breathtaking mountain views and a scenic lagoon. You can explore the charming houses, some of which have been transformed into museums.
Next, you will continue your journey to the Vestmanna Cliffs, where you'll embark on a breathtaking boat tour. Sailing through coastal caves, navigate past towering rock formations and arches, and arrive at the base of dramatic 700-metre-high cliffs. Here, you can view a variety of seabirds, including Arctic terns, guillemots, fulmars, gulls, petrels, and vibrant puffins, that create a mesmerizing spectacle.
Then, continue to the island of Vágar, where you'll find Bosdalafossur at the end of Lake Leitisvatn. This striking 35-metre waterfall plunges dramatically into the Atlantic, offering an unforgettable and breathtaking view. Day 5 is spent at leisure in the area.
