Day 1 - Cairo
As you touch down in Cairo, our welcoming team will be ready to greet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel with all the necessary arrangements taken care of, setting the stage for an unforgettable journey ahead. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Cairo
On our second day in Cairo, we'll dive into the heart of Egypt's ancient wonders with a full-day exploration. We begin by visiting the magnificent Pyramids of Cheops, Kefren, and Micerinos. While tickets to venture inside the pyramids are not included, the sheer scale and enduring legacy of these architectural marvels will leave you in awe. Nearby, we'll encounter the iconic Sphinx, an enigmatic guardian sculpted from rock.Our journey continues with a visit to the Egyptian Museum, a treasure trove of ancient art. Here, you'll witness the mesmerising artefacts from the Lost Tomb of Tutankhamen, offering a glimpse into the opulence and mystery of Egypt's storied past. Lunch is included, providing a delightful break to savour local flavours.In the afternoon, we'll explore the Citadel of Saladin, a historic fortress with panoramic views, and the Alabaster Mosque, a stunning example of Islamic architecture. Next, we'll stroll through the charming Coptic neighbourhood, where we'll visit the Hanging Church. Built atop a Roman fortress, this church offers an intriguing peek into Egypt's diverse religious history. This day promises an enriching blend of ancient wonders and cultural insights, leaving you with lasting memories of Cairo's captivating heritage.
Day 3 - Cairo - Aswan
On the third day, we set off early for the airport to catch a scheduled flight to Aswan, which is included in your itinerary. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our cruise ship and complete the embarkation process before settling into our accommodations. Our exploration begins at the Red Granite Quarry in Aswan, home to the famous Unfinished Obelisk. Here, we'll observe the fascinating methods used by the ancient Egyptians to extract massive granite blocks. We then proceed to the remarkable High Aswan Dam, a significant feat of engineering designed to control the Nile's waters. Following this, we'll visit the stunning Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis. This beautiful temple, set on a small island, is accessible only by boat. Rounding off the day, we will enjoy a relaxing felucca ride on the Nile, taking in the traditional fishing boats that dot the river's waters. You'll have the comfort of full board accommodation on this day.
Day 4 - Aswan
We spend a full day in Aswan, beginning with a visit to the renowned Red Granite Quarry, home of the Unfinished Obelisk. Witness the remarkable techniques used by the ancient Egyptians to extract granite blocks. We then continue to the scenic Temple of Philae, dedicated to the goddess Isis and beautifully situated on a small island accessible only by boat. Following this, we enjoy a relaxing felucca ride on the Nile, these traditional sailing boats providing a unique vantage point of the river. Our journey by felucca takes us to a vibrant Nubian village, renowned for its brightly painted houses and bustling lifestyle, where we'll have lunch. In the afternoon, we embark on an adventure to the historic Monastery of Saint Simeon. Accessible by a camel ride of about 15 minutes, this monastery was once a significant religious site before being repurposed as a caravanserai. We pass by the striking modern Coptic church and the mausoleum of the Aga Khan, though these are viewed from the exterior. The day concludes with leisure time at a first-rate hotel, where you can indulge in the facilities, including a large swimming pool, to unwind after an enriching day.
Day 5 - Aswan - Kom Ombo - Edfu - Esna - Luxor
After breakfast, we embark on a delightful journey through the scenic Nile Valley. The journey is adorned by the captivating views of the river, expansive palm groves, and bustling local villages. Our first stop is the Temple of Kom Ombo, which majestically overlooks the Nile. This unique temple is dedicated to two gods: Sobek, the crocodile deity, and Horus, the falcon god. The layout of the temple is symmetrical, with each side devoted to one of the gods. It is renowned for its detailed reliefs and hieroglyphs illustrating everyday life in ancient Egypt, along with mythological and medical scenes. We also explore the fascinating Crocodile Museum, which houses several mummified crocodiles. Our journey then leads us to Edfu, home to one of the best-preserved and most magnificent temples in Egypt, the Temple of Horus. Built 2,300 years ago, this impressive structure is dedicated to Horus, the sky god. A delicious lunch is provided before we continue to Esna. Here, we visit the great temple, notable for retaining its original roof, offering a rare perspective on ancient architecture and colours. Buried under layers of sediment and mud for centuries, the temple was discovered in the 19th century, thus preserved from erosion. In Esna, we can also view the restored caravanserai and glimpse the floodgates on the Nile from the outside. Our day concludes with a journey to Luxor, where we'll arrive in the late afternoon and spend the night in a comfortable hotel.
Day 6 - Luxor
Today, we embark on a discovery of Luxor, one of the world's most remarkable ancient cities. We start early, taking a private boat from our hotel to cross the tranquil Nile River to its west bank. Our first visit is the Valley of the Artisans at Deir el-Medina, a hidden gem that housed the builders and craftsmen who once created and adorned the royal tombs of Egypt's pharaohs. Here, we explore three tombs adorned with vivid depictions of their daily lives. Next, we admire the grandeur of the Medinet Habu Temple of Ramses II, noted for its well-preserved war scenes. Pausing at the Colossi of Memnon, we stand in awe of these two colossal statues of Amenhotep III. We continue to the Valley of the Queens, home to the magnificent Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari. As the first female pharaoh, her legacy is etched in stone. Then, it's on to the famed Valley of the Kings, where the tombs of Pharaohs lie concealed. This visit includes a ride in an electric cart to Ramses' tomb, subject to additional entry.Returning to Luxor's east bank, you’ll have some free time to enjoy lunch on your own. Our afternoon unfolds at Karnak, ancient Egypt's most significant religious site, showcasing the vast temple of Amun-Ra and the quieter temple of Khonsu. We also delve into history at the Luxor Museum, featuring a superb array of artefacts and mummies unearthed locally. As night falls, we visit the Luxor Temple, magically illuminated. Finally, explore the bustling souk (market) nearby. Please note: the sequence of our visits may shift due to weather and efforts to avoid crowds.
Day 7 - Luxor - Dendera - Hurghada
This morning in Luxor, enjoy some free time to explore at your leisure, perhaps visiting local shops or taking in more of the city's sights. Later, we'll travel to Dendera, home to one of Egypt's best-preserved temple complexes. The complex was concealed beneath sand and mud until the mid-19th century, aiding its preservation. The site, spanning 40,000 square metres and enclosed by a tall brick wall, is renowned for its immense doors and intricate walls. Dendera is dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of love and fertility. After our visit, we will enjoy lunch together before continuing our journey towards the Red Sea. Our route takes us through striking desert mountain landscapes, leading to Hurghada by late afternoon. Here, you'll stay in Egypt's most popular resort area, a 50-kilometre stretch of hotels along the coast. Accommodation is on an all-inclusive basis.
Day 8 - Hurghada
Today is all yours to enjoy Hurghada at your leisure. This morning, take advantage of the hotel's amenities or perhaps explore on your own—consider a visit to Hurghada's expansive aquarium or its museum. Following an included lunch, we'll embark on an excursion around the region. We head to El Gouna, just a short distance from Hurghada, renowned as Egypt's most luxurious resort town. Here, a series of canals and lagoons connect most residences, accessible via yacht. You will have the freedom to explore this exclusive area at your own pace. Later, we visit the heart of Hurghada, stopping by its mosque, where you'll have the chance to go inside before we wander to the lively marina, bustling with shops and eateries. Afterward, enjoy the remainder of the day at your hotel on an all-inclusive basis.
Day 9 - Hurghada
Following breakfast, we'll arrange your transfer to the airport for your departure. This marks the conclusion of our services. Wishing you a safe journey home, and we hope your travels have been memorable and enriching.
