Itinerary
Day 1 - Berlin
Welcome to Berlin. We transfer you to your hotel, then you have the rest of the day at leisure. We provide information in the afternoon – either in person or via the noticeboard at reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Berlin
We begin with a guided panoramic tour of Berlin, taking in the historic centre, Museum Island, the Reichstag, the Brandenburg Gate, the main shopping streets and the city’s parks, with pauses at the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall Memorial. In your free time, you can opt for an excursion to Potsdam and its palaces.
Day 3 - Berlin - Copenhagen
You have free time in Berlin this morning. At 11:30 we head north to Rostock to board the 15:30 ferry – the Baltic Sea crossing to Denmark takes nearly two hours on a modern ship. On arrival we continue through scenic landscapes, reaching Copenhagen by day’s end.
Day 4 - Copenhagen
In the morning we enjoy a panoramic tour with a local guide, combining coach touring and a guided walk to see The Little Mermaid, Nyhavn’s colourful harbourfront, the exterior of Amalienborg Palace, Town Hall Square and the Tivoli area. You have the afternoon free.
Day 5 - Copenhagen - Jönköping - Vadstena - Stockholm
We depart for Elsinore – Hamlet’s city – where the mighty Kronborg Castle stands. We then take a short ferry to Sweden, about 20 minutes, and travel past lakes and forests to Jönköping, a modern small city beside a large lake, where you can explore and enjoy lunch. We continue to Vadstena, a pretty lakeside town known for its old houses and a grand castle dating from the 14th century that later became a monastery, then carry on to Stockholm, arriving in the evening – a Baltic archipelago city where history and modernity meet.
Day 6 - Stockholm
Today we embark on a panoramic tour of Stockholm, a beautiful capital built on 14 interconnected islands. We visit Gamla Stan – the “city between bridges” – with monuments such as the Nobel Prize Museum on Stortorget, the Cathedral and the Royal Palace, and, when possible, enjoy views from the Fjällgatan viewpoint. Afterwards you have leisure time to explore – we recommend the museums and parks. Optionally, you can visit City Hall and the Vasa Museum.
Day 7 - Stockholm - Stockholm - Turku Ferry
You have a free day in Stockholm. In the evening we board a modern ferry for an overnight journey to Finland – accommodation in double en suite cabins.
Day 8 - Stockholm - Turku Ferry - Naantali - Helsinki
As we arrive in Finland, we suggest heading to the deck at sunrise to savour the landscapes around the Åland Islands. After disembarking, you have time to explore Turku, a city with a strong Swedish influence. We then continue to nearby Naantali, a picturesque seaside town of charming wooden houses, before travelling to Helsinki. After lunch we take the public ferry to the Suomenlinna Islands – an impressive sea fortress guarding the city’s maritime approach and a UNESCO World Heritage site. You have time to wander the islands linked by small pedestrian bridges and enjoy fine Baltic views, before we return to Helsinki by boat and transfer to the hotel.
Day 9 - Helsinki - Helsinki - Tallinn Ferry - Tallinn
Enjoy a free morning in Finland’s capital, where you can discover some of this modern seaside city’s most appealing corners. In the afternoon we board a ferry to Estonia – a journey of about 2 hours 30 minutes – and we recommend taking in the views of Helsinki and the surrounding islands as we depart. Arrival in Tallinn.
Day 10 - Tallinn
Tallinn has preserved its medieval heart with remarkable care. We lead a panoramic tour of the city – walls, churches, squares and atmospheric streets – then you have the afternoon free.
Day 11 - Tallinn - Parnu - Turaida - Sigulda - Salaspils - Riga
We travel through forests and plains to reach Pärnu, a popular seaside resort, and continue into Latvia. We include lunch just before visiting medieval Turaida Castle – admission included – set within a large park dotted with sculptures. We take a walk in Sigulda, a small, charming town in a beautiful landscape, then continue towards Riga with a stop at the Salaspils Memorial, located at the site of a former concentration camp from the Nazi period and one of Europe’s largest monumental complexes. We arrive in Riga in the evening.
Day 12 - Riga
We take you on a panoramic tour of Riga, the most populous city in the Baltic states, where traces of the Soviet era remain visible. The city is renowned for its cultural centre, medieval Old Town and superb Art Nouveau. The afternoon is free for you to explore.
Day 13 - Riga - Rundale - Vilnius
We depart early for Lithuania, visiting Baroque Rundale Palace, designed by the same architect as St Petersburg’s Hermitage. We cross into Lithuania and visit the moving Hill of Crosses, with thousands of crosses of all sizes. We include lunch along the route, then visit Trakai – a gorgeous castle on an island in a lake near Vilnius. We finish the day in Vilnius. Note: depending on daylight, the visit to Trakai may take place the following day after the city tour.
Day 14 - Vilnius
We begin with a panoramic tour of Vilnius – a city built on seven hills and often compared to Rome. We reveal its Baroque churches, historic walls, grand castle, lively central streets and around 1,200 medieval houses. You have the afternoon free.
Day 15 - Vilnius - Grutas Park - Augustów - Warsaw
We continue into Poland. Our first stop is Grutas Park – also known as “Stalin’s World” – featuring 86 statues from the Soviet era. We then stop in the lakeside town of Augustów, where you can have lunch, before heading to central Poland and arriving in Warsaw by day’s end.
Day 16 - Warsaw - Poznan
In the morning we enjoy a panoramic tour of Warsaw with a local guide. This city of nearly two million – Poland’s political and economic hub – is both classic and modern, traditional and cosmopolitan, forever renewing itself. We explore the charming Old Town with its historic buildings, Royal Palace and cobbled streets – all beautifully rebuilt after the Second World War and now a World Heritage Site – see the Palace of Culture, reflect on the former largest Jewish ghetto in Europe and stroll through Lazienkowski Park with its Chopin Monument. At around 14:30, after time for a walk and lunch, we depart for Pomerania and reach Poznań, an energetic city with a magnificent main square and lively atmosphere. You have time to explore.
Day 17 - Poznan - Berlin
