Day 1 - Berlin
Upon your arrival in Berlin, we will organise your transfer to the hotel, setting the stage for your exciting journey. Take some time to relax or begin exploring this vibrant city at your leisure. Later in the day, you can find essential information about the start of your trip on the boards located at the hotel reception. Enjoy this opportunity to settle in and prepare for the adventures that await. Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Berlin
On the second day of our journey, we embark on a guided panoramic tour of Berlin, the vibrant capital of Germany. Together, we'll explore the historic heart of the city, witness the architectural grandeur of Museum Island and the Reichstag, and pass through the iconic Brandenburg Gate. As we journey through the bustling shopping streets and picturesque parks, we'll gain insight into Berlin's rich history and modern culture. Our exploration includes poignant stops at the Holocaust Memorial and the Berlin Wall Memorial Museum, both significant reminders of Germany's past. For those wanting to delve deeper, there's an opportunity to visit Potsdam, famed for its stunning palaces and gardens.
Day 3 - Berlin - Wolfsburg - Celle - Hannover
Today, we embark on a journey to Lower Saxony, where our first stop is Wolfsburg. Founded in 1938 as a planned city for Volkswagen factory workers during the Nazi era, Wolfsburg continues to be synonymous with the German automobile giant. We will visit Autostadt, an impressive complex dedicated to automobiles, which includes beautiful gardens and intriguing exhibitions. You will have some leisure time to explore and enjoy lunch amidst this unique setting.Our travels then take us to Celle, a charming town known for its delightful half-timbered houses dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries. Here, you can wander through the enchanting old town and admire the splendid Renaissance castle. As the day continues, we’ll head to Hannover, the capital of Lower Saxony, which we will reach by mid-afternoon. This vibrant city is recognised not only for its economic strength but also as a centre of culture and science, offering a fascinating architectural blend of historical and modern styles. Extensive, lush parks further enhance the cityscape. We will stay overnight here, allowing you more time to acquaint yourself with the city’s diverse attractions.
Day 4 - Hannover - Goslar - Gottingen - Bad sooden-allendorf - Eisenach
Following breakfast, our journey takes us to the historic Rammelsberg Mines near Goslar, continuously operated since the Middle Ages. This remarkable location, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offers a captivating insight into the region's industrial heritage. We include admission to the museum, where we delve into the lives of the miners and the legacy of this extraordinary site. Next, we head to Goslar, celebrated for its significant medieval old town, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town enchants with its beautifully preserved half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, and the majestic Church of St. Peter.We then continue towards Göttingen, a vibrant city renowned for its university and scientific achievements and once home to the Brothers Grimm. We’ll take some time for lunch and a relaxing stroll through its charming historic centre. In the afternoon, our journey crosses the lovely region of Thuringia, with a pause in the picturesque spa town of Bad Sooden. Nestled amidst forested hills, Bad Sooden entices with its well-preserved timber-framed buildings and tranquil vibe, marking it as a truly hidden gem.Finally, we arrive in Eisenach, a town rich in Baroque and Renaissance architecture. The town is notable for the Bach House, where the illustrious composer was born, and Luther’s House, a vital site in the life of the Protestant Reformer. Dinner is included as we settle in for the evening.
Day 5 - Eisenach - Gotha - Erfurt - Leipzig
Today, we begin with a visit to the remarkable Wartburg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its historic significance as the place where Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German. Positioned high above Eisenach, the castle not only offers a fascinating dive into Germany’s past but also spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. Following our castle tour, you’ll have free time in Eisenach to enjoy lunch and explore at your leisure. If music is your passion, consider visiting the Bach House, the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach. Alternatively, you might explore the Automobile Museum, located in what was once the main factory of East Germany’s car industry, featuring an impressive collection of vintage vehicles.We then continue to Gotha, where we will admire the exterior of its grand Baroque palace and stroll through the historic centre, taking in the charming architecture. Our journey progresses to Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia, known for its impressive cathedral and beautifully preserved medieval old town. A particular highlight is a picturesque bridge lined with houses that have been continuously inhabited for over 500 years. By late afternoon, we reach Leipzig, a vibrant city rich in cultural and historical significance. Known as a hub for renowned composers such as Bach and Wagner, Leipzig also played a major role during the era of the GDR and continues to thrive as a bustling metropolis.
Day 6 - Leipzig - Dresden - Meissen - Moritzburg - Berlin
Departing from Leipzig, we pause at the Monument to the Battle of the Nations, a monumental structure reaching 91 metres, inaugurated in 1913 to mark a pivotal moment in the Napoleonic Wars. We then journey to Dresden, the capital of Saxony, celebrated for its striking Baroque and Renaissance architecture, splendid palaces, and picturesque riverside walks along the Elbe.Nearby, we visit Meissen, famous for its exquisite porcelain, crafted here since the 18th century. You will have an opportunity to wander and enjoy lunch in the charming old town, overshadowed by its prominent castle and cathedral.Next, we explore Moritzburg, where you can enjoy a leisurely stroll around "Cinderella’s Castle," perched on an island in a man-made lake, showcasing splendid architecture and vast gardens. Our day's journey concludes as we head back to Berlin, with an estimated arrival time of 7:00 p.m.
Day 7 - Berlin
Today, we continue our journey in Berlin, Germany's remarkable capital, guided by a local expert. From the comfort of our coach, we'll admire the sights of Museum Island, the Television Tower, and the bustling shopping streets of the city centre. You'll witness the historical remnants of the old cathedral, which was severely damaged during World War II, and the iconic Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag building. As we travel, the city's expansive parks offer lush views amidst this urban landscape.
