Itinerary
Day 1 - Entering the Westfjords

Reykjavik - Budardalur - Vatnsfjordur Nature Reserve - Patreksfjordur - Latrabjarg Cliff - Breidavik Beach - Flokalundur.
The journey begins in Reykjavik, where we set off north along Route 1. Our first stop is Eiriksstadir, a reconstructed Viking longhouse linked to Leifur Eiriksson, one of Iceland’s best-known early explorers. Inside, the timber interior offers an atmospheric glimpse into Viking-age life.
As we enter the Westfjords, the road leads into Vatnsfjordur Nature Reserve, following a rugged coastline of quiet coves, rocky outcrops and wide coastal views.
We then stop at the Gardar shipwreck, where the rusting remains of one of Iceland’s oldest steel ships lie stranded on the shore. It is a striking and unexpected sight in this remote landscape.
From here, we continue to Latrabjarg, Europe’s largest seabird cliff. Rising above the point where the Arctic and Atlantic meet, the cliffs are especially impressive in summer, when puffins and other nesting birds gather along the grassy ledges.
Our final stop of the day is Breidavik, a broad sweep of golden sand backed by green hills and open sea - a rare sight in a country better known for its black-sand beaches.
Please note: We strongly recommend arriving in Reykjavik the day before your tour starts. Please also note that this tour includes a moderate amount of hiking to see attractions such as waterfalls. You should be comfortable hiking a distance of around 5km. Get in touch with our team should you have any concerns.
Day 2 - Westfjords Exploration

Flokalundur - Raudisandur - Fossfjordur - Dynjandisvogur - Onundarfjordur - Bolafjall - Isafjordur.
After breakfast, we head to Raudisandur, a 10 km stretch of red- and golden-coloured sand that is unique to this part of Iceland. Its unusual colour comes from crushed scallop shells, giving the beach a warmer tone than the black-sand shores found elsewhere in the country.
We continue through the quiet landscape of Fossfjordur valley before arriving at Dynjandi, one of the Westfjords’ best-known waterfalls. Made up of a series of broad cascades, it spreads down the mountainside in tiers and is often considered the region’s most impressive waterfall.
Next, we stop at the pier in Onundarfjordur, where a simple wooden walkway extends into the fjord. Surrounded by white sand, clear water and steep mountains, this is one of the most photogenic spots in the area.
Later, we make our way to the Bolafjall viewing platform. Set 636 m above sea level, it offers far-reaching views over the fjords and out towards the Arctic Ocean. The platform itself sits dramatically on the mountainside, making this one of the most memorable viewpoints of the tour.
The day ends in Isafjordur, the largest town in the Westfjords. With its small population, harbour setting and surrounding peaks, it offers a pleasant contrast to the region’s otherwise remote and open landscapes.
Day 3 - Farewell Reykjavik

Isafjordur - Bolungarvik - Westfjords Seven Fjords Route - Sudavik - Hvitanes - Gervidalsa - Borgarfjordur - Reykjavik.
After breakfast, we begin the day at Osvor, a restored 19th-century fishing station that shows how Icelandic fishermen once lived and worked along these exposed northern shores. Nearby, we also see the Osholar lighthouse, whose bright tower stands out against the coastal landscape.
We then begin the journey south along the Seven Fjords Route, one of the most scenic drives in Iceland. The road winds through a series of fjords, with each bend opening onto new stretches of coastline and mountain ridges.
Our next stop is the Arctic Fox Center, located in Sudavik. Here we learn more about Iceland’s only native mammal, including its behaviour, habitat and place in the country’s natural history.
Soon after, we visit the Hvitanes seal colony, where seals can often be seen resting on the rocks along the shore between Hestfjordur and Skotufjordur.
We continue to the Gervidalsa valley stream for our final stop in the Westfjords before travelling on to West Iceland. To round off the tour, we visit Grabrok crater, where a walk along the rim rewards us with wide views over lava fields and surrounding volcanic landscapes before returning to Reykjavik.
