Italy's Iconic Cities and Scenic Wonders
New
Begin in Rome and end in Venice on a nine day journey that blends iconic cities with coastal charm and lake scenery. In Rome, take in the Colosseum quarter, Vatican City and a lively evening in Trastevere. Glide over the Apennines to Florence for its Duomo, Ponte Vecchio and grand piazzas. You’ll visit Pisa’s Leaning Tower and ride the rails into Cinque Terre’s colourful villages, then cruise to chic Portofino and sample Milan’s style. Expect serene moments on Lakes Orta and Maggiore – think island monasteries and baroque gardens – plus time in Verona. Arrive in Venice by boat for St Mark’s, Murano and winding canals.

Itinerary
Day 1 - Rome
Welcome to your tour. We’ll transfer you to the hotel, then you have free time to settle in. We’ll provide practical information in the afternoon – either in person or via the information board at reception.
Please note: This tour may have travellers joining or departing at various points along the route, meaning group composition can change during the tour. Please also be aware that depending on group composition, guiding may be in additional languages as well as English.
Day 2 - Rome
This morning we’ll take a three–hour guided tour of the Eternal City – combining a walk through Imperial Rome with a panoramic drive. We’ll see the Arch of Constantine, the exterior of the Colosseum and the Imperial Forums, the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, the Pyramid of Cestius and Castel Sant’Angelo. We finish at Vatican City around 11:00 am. Afterwards, you may choose an optional visit to the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel. In the evening, we’ll include a transfer from the hotel to the lively Trastevere neighbourhood, known for its cosy restaurants – return to the hotel is around 8:30 pm.
Day 3 - Rome
You have a full day at leisure to keep enjoying Rome – the Eternal City that astonishes at every corner.
Day 4 - Rome - Florence
After crossing the picturesque Apennines, we’ll arrive in Florence. We’ll pause at Piazzale Michelangelo for sweeping views of the city. You’ll have free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we’ll join a guided tour of the historic centre – the Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo and Piazza della Signoria – followed by extra free time to explore as you wish.
Day 5 - Florence - Pisa - Cinque Terre - Genoa
Today we’ll travel to Pisa, where we’ll take a little tourist train to the Piazza dei Miracoli – home to the famous Leaning Tower. We’ll then continue to the Ligurian Riviera to visit the Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll arrive by train to one of its charming villages – normally Vernazza, though on busy dates it may be Manarola or Corniglia – and you’ll have time for lunch. Afterwards, we’ll travel by train to Levanto and continue by coach to Genoa, where you’ll have free time to explore the historic centre, a reminder of its medieval maritime power. Note: the Cinque Terre train is a regular commuter service – in peak season there may be queues, trains can be full and seats cannot be reserved, so part of the journey might be standing.
Day 6 - Genoa - Portofino - Milan
We’ll continue to Rapallo and embark for Portofino, one of Europe’s most exclusive seaside villages. You’ll have time at leisure to stroll by the harbour. After lunch, we’ll continue to Milan, where you’ll have free time to wander this elegant northern city – we recommend the Gothic cathedral in Piazza del Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Note: in adverse weather or in winter, the boat crossing to Portofino – from Rapallo or Santa Margherita – may not operate.
Day 7 - Milan - Lakes Region - Verona
Today we’ll explore the Italian Lakes. First, we’ll travel to Lake Orta and Orta San Giulio, a beautifully preserved medieval town. We’ll take a short train ride to the historic centre, then a boat to the Island of San Giulio with its monastery. We’ll continue to Lake Maggiore and stop in Stresa, where you may opt to visit the Borromean Islands – the highlight is Isola Bella with its gardens and palace (closed in winter). We’ll have time for lunch before heading to Verona.
Day 8 - Verona - Venice
We’ll have time to discover Verona, the enchanting city of Romeo and Juliet, before departing for Venice and arriving around 1:00 pm. A scenic boat ride to St Mark’s Square is included, followed by a guided walking tour of the city of canals, including a visit to see Murano glasswork. Afterwards, you’ll have leisure time – perhaps a gondola ride. Accommodation is in Mestre.
Day 9 - Venice
After breakfast, our journey concludes – leaving you with wonderful memories.
