Itinerary
Day 1 - Mombasa - Tsavo
We start early with pick-up from Moi Airport or your North or South Coast beach hotel – we recommend arriving in Mombasa the day before to ensure a timely start. We drive north along the main highway towards Nairobi, following the route of the railway built by the British in the late nineteenth century. Passing the warehouses and workshops on Mombasa’s outskirts, we climb steadily until the vast plains of Tsavo appear, with the Taita Hills on the horizon. We enter Tsavo East National Park at Buchuma Gate, where the driver opens the vehicle roof for standing game viewing – your safari begins. Tsavo is Kenya’s largest national park, divided into East and West by the highway. We arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. This afternoon you can unwind before we return to the park for an afternoon game drive. We head back to the lodge at sunset. The lodge has 40 deluxe rooms, each with a terrace facing the plains or Aruba Dam. All rooms are en suite with shower and bathroom accessories, and a choice of double, triple, accessible and interconnecting options makes it family friendly.Dinner is included at the lodge. Overnight in Tsavo East.
Day 2 - Ol Tukai
After an early breakfast, we depart Tsavo for Amboseli, rejoining the main highway north towards Nairobi. We pass Hunters Lodge – site of the infamous Man eaters of Tsavo attacks on railway workers – then continue to Emali, where we turn south towards Amboseli National Park. On a clear day, Mount Kilimanjaro comes into view ahead. We arrive at camp in time for lunch. In the afternoon you can relax or take a dip in the pool before we head into the park for a game drive across the seasonal lake bed – often dry yet fringed by swamps that attract large herds of elephant. Wildlife also includes cheetah, buffalo, giraffe and various gazelle, all set against the backdrop of Kilimanjaro. We return to camp at sunset and dine at the camp. Sentrim Amboseli sits by Kimana Gate on the park border, with 60 luxurious and comfortable en suite tents offering views of Mount Kilimanjaro, plus a main area with reception, lounge, restaurant, bar lounge and gift shop. Overnight in Amboseli.
Day 3 - Taveta
After an early morning game drive and breakfast, we travel east to the Taita Hills, arriving in time for lunch. In the afternoon we head into the Wildlife Sanctuary for a game drive, returning to the lodge as the sun sets. After dinner, we set out again for a night game drive – an opportunity to look for nocturnal wildlife in their natural habitat. We stay at Salt Lick Safari Lodge, set in a private Wildlife Sanctuary adjacent to Tsavo National Park – the lodge plays an important role in conserving Kenya’s wildlife heritage. The entire property is raised on stilts, offering wildlife viewing from any corner of the lodge 24 hours a day. Overnight in Taita Hills.
Day 4 - Mombasa
After breakfast, we head out on a final early morning game drive in the sanctuary, returning to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, we continue to Mombasa and drop you at your selected North or South Coast beach hotel – accommodation not included – with arrival planned for early evening.
