You’ll explore the Maasai Mara with morning and afternoon game drives – think lions, elephants and, in season, the drama of the Great Migration. You’ll visit the Rift Valley lakes – a Lake Naivasha boat ride for hippos and birdlife, and Lake Nakuru for flamingos, rhinos and the rare Rothschild’s giraffe. Then it’s on to Amboseli, where wide open plains sit beneath Mount Kilimanjaro – expect to see herds of elephant and big cats with epic views. Comfortable lodges, unhurried pacing and varied scenery make this a brilliant all round adventure.

Day 2 - Nairobi - Serena
Leaving Nairobi early this morning, we travel through Kenya’s fertile highlands and descend the Rift Escarpment on a road built by Italian prisoners of war during World War II – look out for the small chapel they built at its foot. We pass the futuristic Longonot earth satellite station, cross the valley to Narok, then continue through fields of wheat and barley to the Maasai Mara, arriving at Keekorok Lodge in time for lunch and a siesta if you wish.Later, we head out on our first afternoon game drive in the Maasai Mara. Keekorok sits directly on the route of the Great Migration and was the first lodge built in the reserve. Sandstone, cedarwood and other indigenous materials feature throughout the rooms and public areas. In front of the lodge, a 300–metre–long elevated walkway winds through a small riverine forest to a bar overlooking a dam where resident hippos and other game are often seen. There are no fences – elephants and buffaloes may wander close, with watchmen on duty. Later, dinner is served at the lodge.Overnight in Maasai Mara.
Day 3 - Serena
After an early breakfast, we head out on a morning game drive in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, home to abundant wildlife including the Big Five, as well as antelopes, gazelles and wildebeest. We return to the lodge for lunch, and you can rest during the heat of the day. Later, we visit a Maasai village, then continue on an afternoon game drive – returning to the lodge at sunset for dinner. Overnight in Maasai Mara.
Day 4 - Nakuru
After breakfast, we bid farewell to the Maasai Mara and travel north across Kenya’s breadbasket towards Narok. We cross the vast plains on the floor of the Great Rift Valley, keeping an eye out for herds of giraffes and gazelles, then climb the Mau Escarpment to arrive at Lake Nakuru around midday. After lunch, we depart on an afternoon game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park. The lake often shimmers pink with thousands of flamingos, and the fully fenced park protects both black and white rhinos – the population numbers more than 50 – as well as the rare Rothschild’s giraffe. Buffaloes, leopards, zebras, elands, waterbucks and lions are also present. We return to the lodge at sunset for dinner. Lake Nakuru Lodge sits in the south east ecological niche of the park, with commanding views of the lake and its flamingos. Lush gardens surround the lodge and cottages, and there is an exciting programme of activities and evening entertainment. The park is Kenya’s most densely populated wetland national park – one of six internationally protected marsh areas known as Ramsar sites in the country.Overnight in Lake Nakuru.
Day 5 - Nairobi
After breakfast we drive to Lake Naivasha for a one–hour boat ride – a Rift Valley lake at one of the highest elevations, home to hundreds of bird species and hippos. We then continue to Nairobi for an early lunch – or a picnic lunch depending on road conditions – before heading south to Amboseli National Park. We arrive at Ol Tukai Lodge in the late afternoon, set in the heart of the park at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest mountain. Cottage–style accommodation spreads out on both sides of the rustic main lodge, and the beautifully designed rooms are built from indigenous materials with uninterrupted views of the wetlands or Kilimanjaro. You can unwind by the acacia–shaded swimming pool, enjoy a drink at the two–storey Elephant Bar (not included), or stroll through the gardens. We end the day with dinner at the lodge. Overnight at Amboseli.
Day 6 - Ol Tukai
After breakfast, we spend the day exploring Amboseli on morning and afternoon game drives. The park is largely a partially dry lakebed of evaporated salts, with fragile grassland and patches of acacia woodland, and supports a wide range of wildlife – rhinos, giraffes, gazelles, lions, cheetahs and leopards – with prolific birdlife around the swamps. All of this unfolds beneath Mount Kilimanjaro, which rises some 5,000 metres above the national park. We pause for a warm picnic lunch in the park, then return to the lodge in the afternoon. In the late afternoon, dinner will be served at the lodge. Overnight at Amboseli.
Day 7 - Nairobi
After an early breakfast, we take in the final views of Mount Kilimanjaro before driving north across the Athi Plains to Nairobi. We aim to reach the city or the airport by 1.30 pm for drop off and onward travel arrangements. Please book departure flights from 4.00 pm onwards.
