Day 1 - Sliema
On arrival at Malta Airport, we meet you and arrange a private transfer to your hotel in Sliema. Check in and settle, then you have the rest of the day at leisure to explore or relax. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 2 - Sliema - Valletta
After breakfast, we set out on a guided tour of Valletta, uncovering the beauty and charm of the fortified city founded by the Knights in 1566. The Order of St John ruled the islands for 268 years, leaving a unique cultural legacy of which Valletta is the prime example. We begin with sweeping views of the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barracca Gardens, then visit St John’s Co Cathedral to see the Caravaggio masterpieces in the Oratory and admire one of the world’s most exquisite marble inlaid floors. Continuing along Republic Street, we pass the Grand Masters’ Palace and the restored St George’s Square before watching the Malta Experience – an engaging audiovisual show that brings centuries of history to life. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 3 - Sliema - Gozo
After breakfast, we head to Gozo for a ferry crossing of about 20 minutes to Mgarr harbour, where the island’s more tranquil rhythm is immediately felt. We visit the megalithic temples of Ggantija – among the oldest freestanding monuments in the world, predating the Pyramids of Egypt – then continue to the medieval citadel in Victoria, the fjordlike bay at Xlendi and Dwejra. Gozo is renowned for its crafts, particularly handmade lace and knitted garments, and its lush countryside and serene atmosphere set it apart from the larger island of Malta. We pause for lunch before returning to Malta. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 4 - Sliema - Mdina
After breakfast, we set off on a half day tour of Mdina, Malta’s former capital. We wander narrow, winding streets dating to the Arab period and reach the commanding bastions for panoramic island views. Along the way, we note varied architectural styles, from medieval Siculo Norman palaces to Baroque buildings of great historical significance. Time seems to stand still in this Silent City, a favourite with filmmakers. Leaving Mdina through Greek’s Gate, we continue to the cliffs at Dingli, and finish with a visit to the San Anton botanical gardens near the Presidential Palace, which we admire from outside. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 5 - Sliema - Vittoriosa - Cospicua - Senglea
After breakfast, we explore the Grand Harbour area opposite Valletta, known as the Three Cities – Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea – where the Knights of St John first settled in 1530. Driving past Cospicua, we reach Vittoriosa for a walking tour through narrow streets shaded by historic buildings, including the first auberges of the various langues of the Order. At the Vittoriosa waterfront, we board a typical harbour boat (dghajsa) for a tour of the colourful creeks, then from Senglea Garden at the tip of the peninsula we enjoy a superb 360° view of the Grand Harbour, including the impressive Fort Sant Angelo from where Grand Master La Valette directed the defence during the Great Siege of 1565. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 6 - Sliema - Marsaxlokk
After breakfast, we visit the idyllic fishing village of Marsaxlokk, with its colourful luzzus and distinctive character providing an unrivalled setting for the local market. It is the perfect place to spend a Sunday morning, and you can rub shoulders with locals as you browse the stalls. We then continue to the Blue Grotto – weather permitting – with an optional boat ride not included in the price, and the nearby caves, before pausing to admire the expanse of the blue Mediterranean and the islet of Filfla. Later, we guide you through one of Malta’s unspoilt villages, starting from the main square with its parish church and band club, then along a maze of winding, narrow streets where every corner has a story to tell. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 7 - Sliema
After breakfast at the hotel, you choose how to spend your final full day at leisure. Overnight in Sliema.
Day 8 - Sliema
Enjoy your last breakfast at the hotel, and at the scheduled time we provide a private transfer to Malta International Airport for your departure.
